    I got two completely different things from this. 1. thin your paints to make it faster and easier and 2. Thin your paints to greatly reduce wasted paint (I'm stingy!).

    If I'm looking for a silver lining in this video, I think it's the reminder that we have/use tools for a reason, and you're not "cheating" if a tool (in this case water) gives you a better result in a shorter amount of time. And the corolary being that it's not a flex to make thing unnecessarily harder for yourself just to end up with a worse result.

      You don't need brushes nor light (get a clean glass jar, drop paint and a mini in there, shake, done)

    I dont know how you did it. You managed to completely out do me without even thinning your paints. Good job. I cant imagine why you would ever want to lick your brush though. That seems hazardous.

    Interesting experiment, I do think thinning paint is an important part of the learning process since it gives us an understanding of how the paint behaves at different consistencies, and I'm way more comfortable creating an opaque layer through several thin coats than I am with thick coats, but it just goes to show that if you understand your paints and how to use them, you can get good results even when restricting your process, if you put in enough effort.

    I use gsw acrylic thinner instead of water for actually thinning the paints and I use my wet palette pretty seldom, but I can't imagine having a proper painting session without a water pot.

    you know what the funny thing about this video is? it has proven to me that painting with paints straight from the pot is not the worst idea (I don’t think my paints with water at all, nor do I rarely ever spray base)

    Airbrush paints: "Yeah we are the best." Like Vallejo AIR steel which is 1 to 1 leadbelcher is perfect to such a degree you have to wait 2 mins for it to be like a regular paint and it flows so great. Also, Zumikito is a cultured person for painting Kingdom Death!

    Reaper paints are very diluted when you buy them, and the ONLY ones I would ever touch a model with straight out of the bottle.

      I mean... What about contrast paints, or shades, or Vallejo xpress series? Sure you can thin them out with medium, but that doesn't make a whole lot of sense for most of them.

    I mean, it makes sense to use thicc paint for a model like this.
    Loving this mini, KDM always has that very fine level of detail that makes it stand out. Also thighs. And hair too.
    Now to paint a mini using finger paints. ^_^

    Try coating the mini with pigment binder & muxing your paint with pigment binder in your pallets. I recommend the Vallejo one. As for paints try the scale 75 Artist line.

    As someone who has painted with unthined paint (oil and acrylic), I highly suggest using a flat brush or filtbit. It will give a lot better results than a detail brush.

    Time is always the key resource. The more time and practice you put in the better (and quicker) you will get at anything. Buying more paints and brushes will not make someone a better a better painter - only time spent actually using them will! This is true for any skill.

    Kind of off topic but...Any suggestions for someone who is getting back into the painting hobby after a long break and has developed a minor tremor in their dominate hand?     Quick answer, Yes it's called dry brushing and it's great for painting lots and lots of space marines and necrons in a short period of time.

    In the next video, you don't need a brush to paint a miniature. Then proceeds to finger paint and use a toothpick and paint to a better standard than I can paint normally. 😂

    Thinning your paints is easy mode and very helpful to beginners. When you get more experience you can mix it up. Great experiment and very useful to see the recovery from mistakes.

    Over a painting session, without cleaning the brush, how did you stop it just drying paint in the bristles and ruining it? Did you just eat the paint constantly?

    I will not use anything to dilute the paint... except for my own spit!
    However, my simple question is why would anyone paint without some kind of thinning solution and some kind of cleaning solution for their brushes? This is like saying that you want to fight someone with both of your arms tied behind your back along with one of your legs. Yes, it can be done, however this is setting the difficulty of the task to the hardest level possible for no reason at all!

    i like the idea and the message but doesn't licking your brush kinda defeat the whole purpose xD? ( i do also sometimes barely use water for some parts of my miniatures :p )

      I mentioned in the note of one scene that I made sure to just lick off the paint without diluting it. Sometimes i barely use glass with water as well BUT that's only when I use a wet palette

    I'm assuming you gave up on the idea of not cleaning your brush. That brush looks way too clean, wouldn't it get all rubbery and make it extremely difficult to change colours without mixing them on the brush?

    Casually doing better blends with straight paint that I can do with flow aids and drying retarders... Ah well. My minis look fine from 4 feet away. Better if we call it 6.

    Not very smooth. That's better than 90% of painters doing their very best work haha.
