    Now this is what a true Aussie family should look like. Keep keeping it real.
    Its the way I grew up and the way I am bring up my family we all eat together talking to each other no phones or TV at the table.
    I go to friends places and its like the family does not even communicate anymore and when they do its so negative because one of them thinks they are being disturbed because they are watching some shit on the phone or being programed watching TV its so sad so many dysfunctional families now.

    Back in Sweden we get big Garfish coming close to the shore in Spring - big ones, easily 1 kg each. Best way to cook them is hot smoking - delicious. The bones are bright green.

    I wanted to say they have you eating out of the bait bucket, but then that whole family made me feel too fuzzy. I really enjoyed this. It's what the TV chefs try to capture but is always to fake for them. Keep up the good work.

      Back in Greece we had them gutted scaled and then just cut in 3cm pieces, then battered, fried really crunchy with the spine still in. This as a snack like chips together with Ouzo!
      Perfect and the bone gives a bit of crunch.
      Or you take it out for the faint hearted 😉

    we have a bunch of these in hawaii. no one eats them and they're so easy to catch. at night, just throw out a treble hook and drag it across the surface and you'll always hook one. maybe i'll try them one day.... lol

    If you DRY your fillets VERY well, then flour by throwing them hand to hand knocking off ALL but a ghost like layer...season, dip in egg, and panko bread crumbs or 50-50 corn meal pancake batter with or without busted up salt and vinegar chips... whatever will stick perfect! Hope you enjoy....(peanut oil)

    when you catch a 500mm Gardy then you can call it a monster they can move so quick i have seen them flying through the air when a seal is chasing them. Great eating.

    Grab them with a rag when taking them off. squeeze rag and let them slip into bucket. This will scale them for you.

    I love gar one of my fav eating fish roll out the backbone with a beer bottle dip in flour or batter fry whole and enjoy the only way to make em taste better is to turn em into Spanish mackerel

      Yeah you are right they are different, same family but different fish, garfish we have here in Aus are like the sweetest tasting fish you can eat with the whitest meat on them while ballyhoo is far as I know are a bit more bloody. But there are a heap of videos on youtube showing how to fillet garfish well so maybe it’s worth a try one day who knows you might be sitting on a gold mine and not even know it
