Love your work, mate. I'm going to rattle off a few things I thought about while watching this video, you've probably thought about all of these things already, but I'm an old man and we like to give unsolicited advice constantly.
A little 1.5kg fire extinguisher is about $30 from Supercheap with a mounting bracket. Mount it on the floor in front of the passenger seat, just in case. Having said that, you didn't mention a first aid kit, but sort out a good one of those too. Being on the road a lot, you never know what you'll see and need to help with. And insurance for your car and equipment, your normal car insurance probably wouldn't cover all the extras you've got and you've already had stuff stolen, there's lowlifes everywhere.
Great advice.
Real talk carry an extinguisher. Was driving on a dry country road at 3am and came across a book on fire on the curb - some sonofabitch was trying to start a field fire, in California to boot. Make sure it's ABC rated (or whatevs is the AU equivalent).

Make sure you put a fuse in front of those batteries especially the cars mian battery, safety first (don't burn your had work to the ground).
Good luck ,have a safe trip
Look forward to new vids
Mat Reynolds maybe if it’s fully insured he should leave the fuses out hahaha
Love the safety squint when using the angle grinder
Tommie Strydom it’s the only way to do it
I love the safety squint on the dog when using the circular saw at 04:52!!
Takes guts and passion to do what you are embarking on. When things get tough remember to focus on what is good in your life and not on what has gone wrong. I wish you a safe and fruitful journey.
I love how mum is mentioned a few times! Mums are awesome!
Such a cool build.
Mate, I really enjoyed that wagon mod. I left home when I was 17 (went back when I was 19 (nearly died)) left a year later. Most of that was spent either working in a job that took me as far West as Diamantina Lakes and beyond, or tripping up North (in more ways than one) between Cooktown and Cairns doing the hippy thing. Man, enjoy it. Carpe Diem or some shit. Just live it, mate. You won't regret this.
Got to love a man that always has safety first in mind. Earmuffs for my cordless drill and Ugg Boots and no life jacket for cold mornings on the boat!!!!! Man I love you Timmy... In a bromance type of way!!
Hey tim I've done the same process, been living off grid landbase fishing nz for three years now, looking back the setting up process and anticipation of what lays ahead holds some my fondess memories. Keep in mind once you've been poor, happy, free and unhinged nothing else will make sense, enjoy it all bro good and bad.
True. Nothing else will calculate after liberation.
Nz got some awesome spots. I hired a car from auckland airport then took off up north fishing and camping. So good
Just a thought, you might want to look at an immobiliser for your commo or take out the ignition fuse or disconnect the coil packs when you're out fishing so no one can knock off your car. Looking forwards to the videos to come. Good luck
Yeah great idea a little secret switch hidden that immobilisers the ignition and starter had one in my datsun 1200 ute and it saved it twice, good advice Danny
First the Pipe Dream, then the skiff, and now the Commodore Camper - keep it coming - aloha from Kauai!
Hey Timmy, love the channel! Love from Canada. You need the opening on the end of the burner as it creates a venturi allowing air/fuel mixture. When operating the burner you can cover the hole and watch the flame turn orange. You want a blue flame and you can adjust those plates. I know you're not dumb but never even dream of heating the camper with it. Carbon Monoxide kills more inexperienced campers than the bears in Northern Ontario because of camp stoves in the tent/camper:(
Good luck Timmy. Have a great trip. Just a thought, might be worth obscuring the windows at the back of the car... Lots of expensive gear on show
Matthew Harding even just to stop the sun destroying everything in there.
Yes, the air gaps are necessary on the burner. You adjust them for the best flame along with adjusting the propane flow. Have a good one.
I'll back this up. Absolutely need the gaps. I know from experience of siliconing them up and wondering why I couldn't get a decent flame
Jerry Stott...exactly. it's amazing how much the adjustments can make to the heat of the flame.I had that exact same burner. I used to use it for melting lead to make sinkers.
@@steiny3353 yes, and they are great for cooking with cast iron utensils. I use one in my cabin for summer cooking.
If you are going south, I would definitely grab a can of white spray paint and cover those rusty bits. That will be a real eye catcher for cops, and you don't want any dramas there mate. It doesn't even have to be the same white, just as long as it helps to make it less obvious.
I agree, on the surface rust just a light sand and spray with white paint. On the bad stuff just keep it painted as best you can.
installs a $3.00 bunnings light , *mission complete*
Dunny paper and mozzie coils are a must.
****** Put some Daiwa stickers over the rust.
Fire extinguisher and circuit breaker for the electrics.
Take lots of naps.
Enjoy
Looks the goods Timmy! Good luck! Perhaps invest in a small fire extinguisher to keep near the batteries just in case! lol
Good luck with everything and all the best for your trip. Hope you enjoy yourself and look forward to following your new adventures through the videos.
Brilliant Timmy.. Good luck.. Can't wait to see your adventure.. Aw the best from Scotland 🏴
😂🤣😂🤣😂
Classic.... from the PPE “work boot” to the keeping it real and only packing cutlery for one...
One of your best mate.
Great set up and wish you all the best 👌🏼👌🏼
Just a couple of words of advice Tim first there is nothing wrong with fishing naked. just be careful that little worm doesn't become bait for the more aggressive fish you might find if your in the water. Second cover those electronics near the fridge with something waterproof the last thing you want is water or some other liquid spilling on to them and shorting everything out.
Mate I'm impressed well done on all the hard work uve put into it as time goes on while on the road im sure ull work out other things u need and dont need . First aid kit and fire extinguisher wouldnt go a stray. Also a tyre puncture repair kit decent ones from a 4wd shop. As well as spare radiator hoses and fan belts nothin worse than if one of them go while in the middle of no where
Good luck looking forward to next video tell your mum you love her and miss her and drive safe mate
Very excited for you and excited for your ur upcoming content!!!, all the best for the adventures, youll do great!
Good stuff Timmy, you've inspired me to do this to my Barina
Hey Timmy, just placed an order for a hat and a shirt. I thought I'd better get in and buy some before you run out of clothes and stink them up 😆😆
Happy to take you fishing when you hit the mid north coast mate. Great fresh and salt fishing here on the Macleay. Welcome to charge up, use the laundry and/or crash if you need too 👍
Hit me up.
Rig looks Great! Good luck on your big trip!
I have a Subaru Outback you can have for free but it’s manual if you like I’m from Adelaide though mate . Love your videos too lad ✌️ I brought a new car and I got it given to me from my brother won’t get much $ for it anyway
Yeah you're meant to have the gaps/holes near the gas jets. On some of them you can adjust to get the air/gas mix right. You can judge the air/gas mix by the size and colour of the flame.
Hey Timmy I noticed when you showed us the wire you ran from the engine bay to the dcdc charger I highly recommend you put a resetable circuit breaker
Good luck Timyy. Cant wait to see the adventure!
Good luck Timmy, looking forward to seeing the journey over the next 12 months
Get some fuel injection cleaner and run it regularly through your car. It will help get a little bit of extra klms per litre and fuel is going to be your biggest cost going forward. Also a spare serpentine belt for your car wouldn’t hurt, their cheap and it runs all pulleys and bolt ons to the motor.
With the amount of electrics in the back, I’m surprised you don’t have a flux capacitor (hahaha). Safe travels Timmy! If you end up on the west coast, I’m in Perth and you are more than welcome to fish with us and plug in power etc etc. I’ll even get the mrs to cook you some home cooked meals and do your laundry if you want. 👍🏼.
Lastly, I’d make sure you have a vac sealer and bags, if you’re living out of a car, and travelling, it will certainly come in handy to prolong food life. Also a good way to waterproof things you store in the boat. Vac pack small tools, spare trailer bearings already greased etc. cheers, Scano
Good luck on your journey timmy, look forward to coming on the adventure!
Amazing stuff, man! You've really inspired me to push some boundaries with my trips. The last one was 3,500 miles for the whole trip to Gloucester, Massachusetts from my home near Atlanta, Georgia, camped in 3 locations along the way. I can't wait to see what happens on your adventures! Thanks for doing what you do!
Timmy we are rooting for u in NYC! You’re gonna slay on this trip!!
Great vid very detailed and interesting to see, can't wait to see you on the road good luck and tight lines!
"just trim around" almost cuts seatbelt haha
Awesome setup Timmy! Can't wait to see your future videos.
Great video and good luck on the trip
Looks great mate, just put a cover over the fittings on the batteries. There are a lot of angry pixies in there that would get out if something fell across the 2 terminals.
coat that ply with a few coats of fibreglass resin. dont forget the hardener. if it gets wet its game over. If you have an MPPT solar regulator on that 300w pannel you should not need to chase the sun. You need 30-50 amp fuses on you posative lines check your installation guides...
Have a safe and memorable trip Timmy Turtle. Look forward to seeing your exploits on the way and might even bump into you on the road next year when the Mrs and I hit the road with our caravan in tow. I'm hoping my kayak won't push me over my weight limit for the rig and I can do some fishing out on the briny where it's safe to do so ☺
Been watching you from the start mate. So excited for you, must feel great! A bloke just going on the road to fish!! How good!! take all the kind peeps advice it all makes sense- after all we love you TT dog and it comes fit the heart. Good luck and will be following you had
Absolute freedom timmy, all the best man looking forward to seeing the adventures.
You are living the dream, us fishos are seeking. Inspirational stuff mate.. Well done !!
Have a safe awesome tripmate. And yes put a fuse on the positive of the battery mate.
$9500?? Shit, I’m going to start making highly entertaining CZcams videos about not catching very many fish! Happy trails Tim! I’d definitely buy Timmy Turtle underwear to keep my tackle comfy!
Good work mate, looking forward seeing your trip 🤟🏻👌
Well done Timmy. See you out there.
👍
Stay safe.
Safe travels mate can’t wait to see the vids 👌
Love the wholesome content!

Awesome video Timmy Turtle !!
Hey Timmy I’m sure if you let people know where your going you might be surprised as to the friendliness of people city and country. You may have a lot of fans that can show local knowledge or farmers whose properties you may be able to access . Good luck in your adventure I’m sure you’ll catch some amazing fish. Stay safe.
Go get em mate. Can’t wait to follow your journey 🤙🏼
Great stuff Timmy, and fully agree with you on the Weber.
Awesome adventure to come!!! Dont forget your fuses and also cover your gear as shithole people are found everywhere. Good luck!!!

Smart idea most always forget about!

I like these kinda videos. You’re a funny guy in front of the camera. Good luck on trip!
Love Yamba and I’m going to Yamba in December for a week or so of non stop fishing can’t bloody wait
Gday cob I've got a 1980 ford transit called myrtle the turtle that I travel in around WA in, definitely grab a little extinguisher from bunnings 25 smackers. If you make it to WA I'll take you to chase down some rainbows and browns on the blackwood ,good luck dig, happy travels
Good luck mate. Makes me want to go on a fishing adventure 👍🎣
Legend. All the best mate
Mate I had the exact same thought about fuses as the blokes above, you really need atleast one where your 8g comes off the cars battery, theres alot of wire there and its pretty easy for something to happen to it, Jaycar do some good little 12v circuit breakers for about $25, cheap insurance mate
before you get too far... do the front seats slide all the way back.. and do they recline all the way back still so you have some leg room and ability to lay back and nap in the front seats still..
The best camp chair is the new ARB folding chair with side table not cheap but good quality and very comfortable for tall blokes
And fuse all power leads from battery
Grab an awning from 4wd supercenter at the price there great and cheap to replace
Cheers
Hi Timmy 12 volt fuse for that cable coming off the car battery if that shorts out it will burn your car to the ground, buy a maxi fuse and fit it 30 amp.Have a great trip.
I'd be wanting a good cargo screen behind the front seats, if you get in a crash you've got 100x objects coming at you at high speed. At least tie the batteries/fridge and shelf down to the floor!
Haha... cut the carpet out... and I'll put in a mat that will do the same job as the carpet!! Love the video, happy journey!
Awesome work mate 👍🏻
Get amongst it Timmy, tight lines dude
Mate this is the best thing that I have seen, awesome work mate
Timmy can you please not shave for the whole trip?
Yes!
Does he ever shave?
So pumped for you timmy cannot wait for the vids! Please don’t store the gas bottle in the car not a good idea, stay safe and tight lines
Love the vids so much mate
Great setup but just incase someone else hasn't mentioned it, you should keep the gas bottle out of the car and store it on the boat, there's been lots of Plumbers blown to bits because of gas bottles in their vans.
So good mate, jealous as!
Hopefully Weber sends you some free grills! Love that you're combining van life and fishing- been waiting for that obvious combination. Keep posting I'm subscribed.
Great effort mate, can't wait to see your adventures. We have a big yard and room for ya camper in WA, power, kitchen, dunny and a shower if your coming past.
wish you luck on your adventure timmy
Love the chook pins mate😘 Great vid again
Timmy Turtle on Tour ......
Coming to a Town near You !!!!!
Onya Timmy ...... Best of Luck Buddy !!!!!!!!
Good luck mate!
Looking forward to the content. 👌👌
Good luck mate, all the best. Get a chair that takes up the least amount room mate simple, safe travels.
Black out your windows!!! Had a friend with all his offshore rods and reels and tackle, not unlike your awesome project. Some scumbags waited until he headed out in his boat for some inshore and took ALL his stuff! Easily 20k was taken because people could see what was in his Suburban. A can of spray tint is probably worth the $10 investment. Otherwise well done Mr Turtle!
It may be a little late, but can I offer some possibly over-cautious advice? Please strap down anything that can fly around in the cabin under either sudden braking or in a worst-case scenario a roll. From experience, you don't want something like that Weber smacking you in the head when some nutjob in front of you decides that they want to stop and turn that corner NOW, or in my case, decided that the gap I had from the car in front of me was fine to dive into just as everyone was coming to a sudden stop. One crab pot ring in the back of the head, but I didn't hit him.
