What type of baitcasting reels do you use??
Best technique I've seen for getting lures under overhanging trees is skipping them in, casting low and flat and actually skipping them off the surface.
Couple of vids on youtube of blokes showing their skill at it getting under docks and stuff. Might be worth checking out and getting some practice in.
(edit) Keep going south. You don't want to bring that little skiff up north into creeks with crocs in 'em. Nine days out of ten you'll be fine, it's the tenth day you have to worry about.
