- Welcome to a collection of beginner-friendly flies tailored for those venturing into fly tying. These patterns are simple, easy to tie, and require minimal materials. I recommend selecting a couple of patterns that appeal to you or suit your local waters and starting with those. While some may seem more intricate than others, they all serve as excellent entry points into the art of fly tying. What's even better is that these patterns have proven to be highly effective on the water! Remember, regardless of your skill level, keeping things simple will not only help you success on the vice but also the water.

The second most important thing to remember when getting into tying is, less is more.
The first, of course, is to make sure to brush it out, and give it a nice, buggy look.
Honestly.. I don't think I will ever try to catch any fish but making these looks fun and I wanna try
Show love for the longer videos! Thank you for posting! Happy holiday, and tight lines!! 🎣😎
You’ll be happy to hear there’s another one out tomorrow and a 15 minute video of a single complex pattern after that
Nice buggy look😊#flys

Hey @mainelyFlies this upcoming week I’m taking a trip up to the Catskills would you happen to know any good spring flies for the Catskills?
Wish I could help more but I’ve never actually fish the Catskills, your best bet would be to stop by a fly shop and check in with what’s happening. My guess is you’ll want some midges, BWO, mayfly nymphs, along with some hellgrammites if they have them there. Also some streamers of course, what pattern you choose won’t matter so much for these just different sizes and colors
Good luck! Hope the trip goes well!
Im just starting fly tying, anybody have any suggestions on materials, i already have a vice, bobbin, and whip finisher.
Best way to start is to pick a pattern and only get the materials you need to tie it. Over time you’ll build up your collection and soon will be able to jump into a new pattern without having to buy anything.
Do you have any sand 🦐 patterns #flys
Instead of forming the head with thread, why not use Bone Dry Black UV resin?

Good choice of patterns for beginners. It would make it easier to see if you used a lighter background colour. Black background and black thread is not a great combination.
Yeah some of these are from my older stuff back when I had a terrible camera. While I still go a bit darker with the new stuff because it’s become a little bit incorporated into the brand. it will be better as I just got some much better lighting to help the fly pop and increase background lighting a bit.
That blue flies was cool # flies
It would be a BIG help if you would indicate what type and size of hook you use in you tutorials
I don’t do that because it’s completely up to you. Theres not one size I’ll tie any of these patterns in as it could range depending on what I’m try to imitate. I do mention it when it’s important. As for the hooks they are generally linked on my videos. This was just a collection of a bunch of flies. Haven’t had the chance to gather all the materials needed yet. Might do that Monday
Do you think that salt water fly would work in pink ? #flies
