How exciting - making a one off steampunk clock machine

- It's always lovely designing and making a one off project. I recently received a commission to manufacture a time zone clock. Luckily in the run up to the Whitby Steampunk Weekend I had some time available, what better way to use it?
This machine was commissioned by the groom's parents to celebrate the marriage of their son. The groom and his wife regularly travel around the world for work and they want to see the current time in the UK, the US, and wherever they are living at the time. - Věda a technologie
Of course we like this kind of things ! Another brillant arrangement, well done !
This is so nice to watch, they should make a serie on television!
Thank you kindly!
I love these videos.
Thank's for letting me know. It makes it all worthwhile and enthuses me with the joys of spring!
Wonderful. :)
Thank you kindly.
Delightful as always. How do you get the energy for all this? Not just building the machines, but shooting, editing and publishing the videos. Never change.
Whilst growing up I was told by my mother every morning (regardless of how early I rose), that I'd wasted the best hours of the day! The work ethic stuck and I have to be very careful not to inflict it on my 'normal' teenage children! Still it keeps me off the streets.
God job 👏
It is lovely designing and making one off items, and it was a new venture to make one without loads of complicated electronics!
Looks great! Did you get the Ziggy stamp of approval?
I did, she was very happy with the final result!
Excellent work, entertaining as ever. Hope all is well with you and yours?
By the way, what was the design package you use please?
another brilliant video, my old friend :D I'm going to drop you a message with a link to a web site you may find of use in future projects ;)
It's great to hear from you, I hope all is well. I look forward to receiving the link.
Just started to get into Steampunking afer a trip to Whitby last summer where to our suprise there was a steampunk convension. Your videos are truly memorising! Is your laser a co2 version? Would yo mind letting me know what package you use for designing the clock faces etc? One of the best sets of videos I have seen on CZcams. Keep it up.
Thanks very much for your encouragement. Lovely to hear you accidentally got into steampunk last year at Whitby!
My laser cutter uses is a 60 watt CO2 water cooled tube. Wasn't initially sure about water coolong, but it is so simple and effective. It's an LS3060 from HPC Laser Ltd in the UK.
The CAD software is 2D Design by Techsoft. It's the CAD software used in most schools in the UK as it is much cheaper than alternatives and you only pay once for a license. It doesn't have all the tools of other expensive versions, but does eveything I need it to.
Many thanks for your reply.@@steamhead
Munsen ring make my badly measured plumbing look intentional, nice valve tweak. Baking soda is great for fixing cockups, my solar plumbing looks very steam punk and I am not sure how I got it to work. Boiler chap won't go near it. Bending trick, fill pipe with sand and water then freeze but you have to be quick or make a loop. Best
I was surprised at how good the valves looked with a brass rod rather than their original red knobs. Oh the joy of superglue and baking soda! Thank you for suggesting packing the copper pipe with sand, but I took the easy option!
I see you do your best work when the World a sleep, just started second radio today but must keep off eBay. Easy option ?, my dear chap it is a strategic manufacturing solution. @@steamhead
@@WOFFY-qc9te from now on Strategic Manufacturing Solutions will form a prominant part of my work ethos.
The 'Kaizen' mindset is a strategy in of constant improvement. Or delegate and go for a walk.
@@WOFFY-qc9te I've learnt something new; Kaizen! Having been trained as an Industrial Designer at the Central School of Art & Design 40 years ago (my son has just started using the airbrush I purchased for the degree course, and it has a dated painted quality control card), it's nice to have a word that encompasses the cycle of constant evaluation and improvement!
is the clock face paper?
Mass produced clocks like these always seem to have printed paper faces. It's great, as they can easily be replaced with a laser engraved face, or in the case of the large clock with a thermometer, a hole can be cut in the engraving.
