My whole family is addicted to steam punk. Glad I found you.
I’m glad you found me too. Thanks so much for watching.
I got halfway through this video before I created a new playlist called "Must-Do Projects" and added this as the first thing saved there. I absolutely cannot wait to do this. What a simple, great, well-executed idea. 10/10.
Thank you so much. I just used the same basic technique in the inside of my garage door. Here is the link: czcams.com/video/2936dUtrVEM/video.html
Thanks so much for watching.
Updates?
🙆🏻♀️ I have loved Steampunk for MANY years!
EXACTLY... So Cool...
I made a new playlist as well. Named “steampunk” because I believe I’m going to be doing this to a lot of stuff! 👌🏼
This turned out so FANTASTIC... WOW
Thanks so much.
I don't know how I landed here, but I cant stop watching! Absolute brilliance! You are so creative. I only wish I had an old fridge to rehab. Impressive!
Thank you so much! And thank you for watching.
Been a steampunk enthusiast for decades - and this just blew my mind. Loved it! Now I just gotta wait till the wife wants to upgrade the kitchen and I can haul the old fridge out to the garage and make it a project. Thanks for the inspiration and amazing ideas! Craftsman and artist all rolled into one.
Thank you so much. This was a really fun project. Thanks again for watching.
I know he blew me away! The ideas, still taking notes and saved the video. My honey will be thrilled, he leaves to hunt in about two weeks! Hahahahaha
Love this. Lost my dad and a friend of mine who was into Steam punk and Ren Faire, about the same time. I have a fridge in my garage. Wasn't sure if I wanted to donate it, sells it, or .... NOW I HAVE A PROJECT for people I love and lost. Be well! Do what you're doing! Stay healthy!
Thank you so much. I think that would be a really cool memorial.
@@DIYGene thank you. When i do it, I will share my video with you! THANK YOU!
I've been a huge fan of steam punk for years which surprises my grandkids! Lol! Love the refrigerator! Its over the top amazing! Well done!❤🤗🤗
I’m the same way. My son is always surprised by it. Thanks so much for watching.
I have come back to this video multiple times to glean the intricacies. THANKS
I hope you find it helpful and inspiring. Thanks so much for watching.
Gene, you are absolutely amazing. The way you pull ideas out of your head blows me away. I would dare to call you a genuine genius. And the way you are able to "roll with the punches" when the original way you had though of causes you to have to change your course and redesign as you go is nothing less than genius.
I LOVE your steampunk fridge project. If I weren't a bedridden cancer patient I would do this to my main fridge (which looks exactly like the one in your project) in my kitchen. BTW, My whole house is a man cave, which would be awesome if cancer wasn't trying to take my life. Eeh, you win some and you lose some. Either way, I think you are one brilliant craftsman.
Chris, Thank you so much, but trust me, I am no genius. Just enjoy making and sharing. Im so sorry about the cancer, that has to be so hard. I just released a new video today and would love to get your thoughts. Here is the link: czcams.com/video/FhseWUY_v7s/video.html
Thanks so much for watching and I will keep you in my prayers.
Gene
I like his cavalier approach. When doing projects like this, analysis is paralysis. Well done mate!👍
Flying by the seat of my pants! Thanks for watching.
i second to that
What a great look. So cool. I use 20 to 50lb magnets for "no hole" attachment to a metal surface.
The thing you discover with this aesthetic is that its hard to know when to stop. Great project. I like most of it.
Thanks for watching.
That faux iron looks great. I've been wanting to make a treasure chest but I don't have welding equipment to use actual metal around the edges. What you've done here will work perfectly for what I want!
That’s great. The pvc strips will even curve nicely if you are putting them over a rounded lid. Thanks for watching.
I'm going to steampunk my basement, I'm going to make a coffee bar and was thinking of hiding my college dorm fridge under a counter, but I like your idea better
That sounds so cool. A steampunk coffee bar. You could do so much with that. I would love to see pictures when you finish. Thanks for watching.
Make a video, please! That would be fun to see.
That sounds awesome!
How is it going so far?
@@mycatstolemyphone3648 .... Well change of plans, I'm getting married in January. My husband to be is more or less renovating slash building a house. The whole house is gutted. He is a certified steam engineer. He has had all kinds of ideas for the house. His Mom told him to not go overboard with the house cause he may want to marry some day and his wife won't necessarily like his decor. My mom kinda told me the same thing when I told her I wanted to steampunk my basement, 'don't do the whole house, you may want to sell it some day.'. So yeah, we've got plans for steampunk, rustic, and a little bit log cabin feel, it's going to be a patchwork house. We're going to make a cuddle corner aka a coffee bar. He liked my idea, so we kinda branched off from it. So far the only room that's finished(minus paint)is the bathroom. It has a wine Barrel for the sink. It has barrel staves above the bath tub covering the exhaust fan (there's a 2-3 inch gap for air circulation). There is old stamped metal ceiling. He's going to make a medicine cabinet out of the barrel lid and metal rings. And drawers from old sewing cabnets are going to be put in under the counter. We have other plans but that's it so far.
Thanks Gene! My wife and I finished our "Man Cave" frig. Great little project and came out awesome. We both decided to give you a little something :) I'd like to send you a photo of it, but not sure if that's allowed
Oh my word, thank you so much! I’m so excited that it inspired you to do a man cave fridge! I would love to see how it turned out. Please send pics to
gcavasos@gmail.com and God Bless!
Wow! I just found another hobby…looks great and will keep me busy.
That’s fantastic. Have fun and thanks for watching.
I have watched this video 3 times , my favorite part is that dot matrix printing paper. I only imagine you have a Scrooge McDuck vault in your basement with beautiful boxes of the stuff. I really appreciate your videos , taking lifeless objects and breathing into them your own wonderful and unique style makes my whole day. Thank you
LOL, I have a hard time getting rid of things. Not a hoarder. I don’t think. Thanks so much for watching.
I noticed the same thing! Antique paper for an antique-making project!
When one of my jobs was going away I discovered a trash bin full of tractor feed paper. I took home what I could (about 1%) and it lasted me 5+ years.
Right now I am using some letterhead stuff someone gave me. It is only a water mark so it works great for day to day printing.
This is a awesome video!! Who knew Clint Eastwood was so talented!!!
Go ahead, you made my day.
I thought he looked a lot like him too :)
Sweet! My bride-to-be is eyeing a new fridge and suggested the old one go into the garage. Sounds like a perfect opportunity to make a steampunk conversion.
It does sound like the perfect opportunity. I hope you have as much fun doing your’s as I did. Thanks so much for watching.
I’m making a kegerator out of a fridge and now I know how it’s gonna look! Thanks for the great idea.
I would love to see how it turns out! Thanks for watching.
Outstanding job! I would love this in my kitchen. My great grandkids would be over the moon, girls and boys. You have a new convert to this style.
Thank you so much. This was a really fun project. Thanks again for watching.
OMG I love this! I love how you are so casual basically the vibe is you just chillin' building something pretty darn cool! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much. I was afraid I would just make a mess out of it.
I found this video riveting ! I had already steampunked my beer fridge but yours blew it away. I can't wait to give it a refreash with some of the techniques presented here. Well done mate and not one gear was glued on to call it steampunk!🙂
Thanks Dave, this was such a fun project. I’m glad you found it useful. Thanks again for watching.
Super fresh ..this man is PLATINUM
Thank you so much for watching.
Nice, I have a 1957 HotPoint that still runs perfect as a beer fridge in my basement. I have had it since I was 18 (pulled it out of a barn that had a pile of stuff "thrown" out for a house refurb) and am now 53 and it has been an amazing machine for all those years with zero issues. But she need s facelift, so this is it!
Wow. What a great idea. Hope you can post some pictures when completed.
Amazing work Gene. You have an artist's eye, are so creative and have inspired me to do something similar at some point. I think I will elect to use a vintage warbird aircraft gauge or something similar for the front of the fridge. They are easily found on ebay or militaria sites, not too expensive and would truly be convincing. Thanks for sharing your talent!
Thanks for the kind words. I am currently finishing up a video of a similar technique on the inside of my garage door. Thanks so much for watching.
What a bril idea and the man looks so sensible 👍🏼
Thank you! This was such a fun project. Thanks again for watching.
All I can say is AWESOME!
Absolutely fantastic! Loved this, inspired me to do something like this when I next decorate. Thanks for a brilliant vid. Great work 👍
Thank you so much. This was a fun project. Thanks again for watching.
BrillianT!
Man…you deserve a big Like and a subscription, because your work is excellent, you know?
You gave me some ideas about the Steampunk concept that I can start using, an idea that I've been sketching since I started designing my workshop and my studio.
I hope you keep creating art this way and that you have the patience to film everything you're doing, because that's really useful.
Greetings from Portugal.
Thanks so much. I’m glad some of the work inspires you. I will keep pushing them out. Thanks again for watching and subscribing.
I love steam punk. Can't wait to do this to my upright freezer turned kegarator.
This was a really fun project. Thanks for watching.
I have a garage fridge from 1949. It can't really keep up in the Iowa summers. When I replace it this is definitely happening to the new one. SO COOL!
Oh but a 49 fridge has got to look cool.
Great project! You really did a wonderful job with making it look like aged copper. Thanks for sharing.
This was a really fun project. Thanks so much for watching.
I LOVE this. I am getting my house ready to sale. As MUCH as I would love to do this to the refrig in place I will probably save it for our next house LOL. The real estate agent will probably be thankful hahaha.
Ha ha, that might be a little over the top for the real estate agent. Thanks for watching.
Yeah, unfortunately not everyone appreciates awesomeness.
@@socialmoth4974, But if it makes you happy. You are the only one you have to impress. Thanks so much for watching.
I used to love that type of printer paper when I was young I always tore off the holes on the side and fold it in alternating directions to make a spring of paper! Good Ol' Memories!
I have a box that still has 5” of paper. LoL thanks for watching.
Amazingly creative! Coolest thing I’ve seen in a long time!
Thanks so much. This was a really fun project. Thank you for watching.
Wow, so great to have the freedom to be this creative. You would be great as a set designer for film or plays.. once those things return. I have a friend that makes stuff like this for a huge Halloween bash , her collection of items keeps growing. Good of you to share your process. 👍
Thank you so much. I really enjoy doing these kind of thing a d also in joy sharing. Thanks again for watching.
WOW! I can paint, but I’ve never used power tools. I have the same fridge.
I was looking for ideas on steam punk furniture and came across your video. I really love what you did! I see you did this video along time ago…how is it holding up?
Well done sir!
It is holding up great. I even added a steampunk bottle opener to the door. This was such a fun project for me. Thanks so much for watching.
@@DIYGene * NICE! Do you have a video on the steam punk bottle opener? You inspired me to do a mixed motorcycle/steampunk dresser! It took me longer to play with the placement of the gears and where and what I was going to paint the rest of the art work. Once the placement was figured out, it was a breeze with all the tips I picked up from your video. Thank you for your time….I’m hooked! P.S. Love your other videos as well!
Hi Tina, That sounds fantastic. I would love to see how it turned out. Yes I did a video on the Steampunk Bottle Opener. Here is a link: czcams.com/video/9MB0nQliTdQ/video.html
Thanks again for watching.
I haven’t enjoyed a DIY video as much as this in forever! Headed to the hardware store right now.
This was a really fun project. Thanks so much for watching.
Just happened to click on this, I watched, I watched, I liked and I subscribed.....brilliant!
Thanks so much for watching and for subscribing.
You are so creative! I love this and I would have never thought of doing something like this to a refrig! TY for sharing your talent!
Thank you Lisa, and thanks for watching.
All I can say is "WOW OUT OF THIS WORLD"
Thanks Don! And thanks for watching.
Wow. For his work shop! He has the outdoor kitchen attached to it! Hahahahahah I can do this! Awesome idea, I build on boxes and canvasses and lamps! New follower!
Thanks so much for watching and for following!
I really love this!!! Steampunk appeals to me and even though I’m 70 yrs old I would do this in a minute. But my husband is not a fan and so I will look for something else to convert.
My wife likes it so long as it’s in my shop. Lol. Thanks so much for watching.
amazing work. loved it, great job
Thank you so much. This was a really fun project. Thanks again for watching.
Every now and then something makes me smile out loud.. this is one of those something's.. this is totally awesome.. love it.
I will be steam punking my bathroom. It's going to be 20,000 leagues under the sea in there, complete with a porthole, octopus fixtures and decor, dramatic lighting and a copper tub.
That sounds awesome.
A dream come true
Adding some glass between the layers on the gauge would be sweet! LOVE it!
💝😎💝
Great idea! Thanks so much for watching.
K O O L It looks much better than an old white appliance sitting in the garage. Almost Pirate Like, ARG...Me Matey!
Thank you! And thanks so much for watching.
Behold!!!!! This guy is the Bob Ross of appliance painters.
I like that” the Bob Ross of Appliance Painters” LOL. Thanks for watching.
Hell Yeah, buddy! Love it! I'm a single man and I'M Gonna ManCave my whole HOUSE! Lol.. Urinal in the bathroom, mechanics toolbenches for my kitchen cabinets. Thanks for sharing this - it'll give me something to ponder as I look at my fridge. Peace out!
That sounds like the ultimate man! Thanks so much for watching.
Love, love, love!! I am definitely doing this on my old 70,s fridge! Thank you for the inspiration!

This is so awesome. Great job 👏
Thank you so much. It was a lot of fun. Thanks again for watching.
I'm very close to completing the outdoor kitchen on my deck and saw your steam punk refer and fell in love with the idea. It just so happens the refer I have is just like yours. Now I'm in the process of collecting some of the junk my wife has been after me to get rid of and I am going to create something like yours to really accent the outdoor kitchen. Thanks for such a great idea.

Hi Gene, thank you sooo much for bringing your inspiration. I’ve been remodeling an old Victorian flower shop here in San Francisco and recently finding your videos has been incredibly helpful in trying to get some of my old retired friends to participate with me! Thank you, you are amazing!
I’m so glad you found the videos helpful. Let me know if you would like to see anything specific or ideas. Thanks so much for watching.
@@DIYGene hi Gene, I would love to see your ideas on building an airship. I have a 20’ ceiling height in my shop and wishing I had an airship to suspend for display.
Also…please let me know if you ever come through San Francisco. My retired builder friends and I would all enjoy meeting you!
Thanks Chris, it’s funny I was just telling my son ii should build a airship kind of like the ones in the 3 musketeers movie. That might make a great video. I would love to check out your Victorian Flower Shop. It sounds amazing.
If you like that look more power to you. Not my cup of tea but I certainly respect and admire your talent and approach to have and make something we don't see everyday. A raised cup of coffee to you Chief Instructor.🌄☕

Yes you can! Trust me. If I can do it anyone can. I hope you will give it a try. Let me know if you have any questions I can help with. Thanks for watching.
