Top 10 Things To Know About The Jeep Renegade

- There is a new Jeep on South African market and at first glance, it looks particularly interesting. It’s noticeably smaller than any other Jeep, and noticeably “cuter” - especially given the colour palette available, which seems to have been borrowed from the company that makes Skittles.
In this video, we’ve picked ten of things about the new Jeep Renegade that you need to know about, covering the engine, interior, build quality and a few little surprises that Jeep have built into the car as standard.
We’ll be using this space to go into detailed comparisons with this car’s rivals.
Here at Cars.co.za, we were all unexpectedly surprised by the new Renegade. The build quality is impressive and overall, as a package, it is an attractive urban car. But the pricing is, shall we say, challenging.
With the range starting at R340 990, the car is priced quite priced above a few of its key rivals, even overlapping bigger cars in the next segment, such as the Toyota Rav4, which starts at R311 000.
The car featured in the video is the 1.4 T Limited Launch Edition, which at the time of writing, features SatNav, leather upholstery and those rather nice 18 inch wheels included as freebies in the price of R375 990. We’ll use this car for comparisons below.
We’ve chosen the Mini Countryman and Subaru XV, as both cars are roughly equally sized and offer that rugged, I-might-actually-go-offroad feeling.

Just bought an orange one with the altitude package.... loooove it!
I love this car from the moment I first laid my eyes on it, test drove it, it's magnificent and I am going to get one :) Thank you
Nelisiwe Music Official don't . Horrible car. Money pit
Leave it on the lot
@@mrzed2349 Nope. You just cannot drive it. Don't buy this vehicle to gun the engine and race around town.
Did you buy it? Happy?
Nelisiwe Music Official just got one I love it
I have one and I love it. Good gas mileage and very comfortable. I've had mine for 3 years with no problems. The only thing I had to do on it was maintenance and the radiator fan but for owning it for three years can't complain. Never had an issue with it. Love it. Not bad for an affordable jeep. As long as you keep up with the services and take care of it. Love it. I'm surprised for such a small suv the room it has.
How's it going up now? How much did you pay for the radiator fan replacement?
The Renegade is starting to grow on me. I like the idea of a fun car for the wife to take to work and leave the full size suv home. The turbo should add a little oomph. Wish it had a little higher tow rating, 2500lbs would be perfect.
I've got a jeep renegade longitude and I love it
Perfect for someone my age. One of my friends recently went and got one. She did get the limited and I can't afford that, but I am gonna get a jeep renegade. I think it's perfect for people who want a smaller type of SUV but not too big of an SUV. I love the interior too.
I love my Renegade and the challenge of finding the Easter Eggs
Robert york really you love it LOL how many kms has the car done so far ?
We have a 2015 Latitude with the 2.4 Multiair. They hit the nail on the head design wise (for those who have never owned one before but the decals are a bit much) and it has more room in the passenger compartment than you think. I'm 6'3" and 230lbs., room enough for me. It is overplumbed mechanic and electric wise. A simple check engine light can keep you from using the 4wd traction select feature and its bevy of electronics will run down a battery quicker than you think. We have not had some of the problems others have reported but the lack of a spare tire is sad. I've had Jeeps before (two Wagoneers, one Cherokee Chief and one J10 Gladiator) and even though this is new its more of a Jiip than a Jeep. With the 9 speed automatic you would think it could do better miles per gallon wise. Overall though the impression is favorable. A lot of similarities with the Fiat 500X.
I just purchased a Renegade (2017) about a month ago. I was really ready not to like it as my husband picked it out - I have a back injury which can at times keep me on my back to relieve pressure. I wanted a Trailhawk with the sjid plates and everything needed to get out of Dodge if TSHTF (emergency). I wanted the V-8, the whole deal. I have to admit, my little 'rollerskate" Renegade does the job for now. I can drive for an hour or more and actually be able to get out of the car without streaming tears of pain. There were times in my Mazda when I literally could not get out for at least 15 mins. This car is soooo quiet that I once went into 7-11 and unknowingly left it running!!! Locked, thankfully. Right now, I love it. Wish there were more power getting onto highways, more storage space in back, but really, after 4 weeks, I love this car!
Keep an eye on the engines oil consumption!!
Defect inside the engine causes it burn oil excessively. If under warranty they will replace it.
Erm
I got mine the other day and I love it
Im going to review this car it's strong 7/10 car I own 2.4 lattitude amazing I love driving the solid Italian stallion.
I own one and here is my top 10 for a 2017 1=under powered 2=expensive oil/changes 3= front suspension cheaply done 4= engine very noisy 4= great driver 5= great visibility 6= small gas tank 7=tire size are affordable 8= good mileage on flat roads terrible on hills 9=great night lights 10= very small but roomy and stiff ride on 4wd models
That gas mileage sucks to me. My Wrangler was way better on gas
Howzit, I'm thinking of buying one. What would you advise after a few years of driving it in SA? Any problems I should look out for?
Thanks in advance!
@@____DK____ I have 150k miles on it. Several error codes lite up on dash can not fix. Dealer says computer bad. Headlights, foglights and driving lights either melted connectors or entire assembly melted! Found several other with same problems. Avoid this vehicle! 4th sway bar link replaced fronts and back!
@@MrFlyTWA Thank you so much for taking the time to respond and sharing your experience with the vehicle. Will look at other models then.
I just purchased a 2015 manual transmission Jeep renegade in arctic white. I love it so much.
Matt Prentice yeah come back to us on here after you have driven it between 20,000km and 70,000 and tell us how much you love it lmao if you come back without and transmission, engine or electrical problems I’ll be in absolute shock LOL
Here in brazil they released a 2.0 turbo *diesel* 170hp and a much higher suspension. The 2.0 diesel gives me 15-18 km/L avg, while the 1.8 gasoline is terrible and people get like 4-10 km/l avg
I hope to have many years of enjoyment out of this Jeep! I so Love ❤️ it!
deborah darr Lol good luck with that and may I ask are you still loving it ? How many kms it gone haha
Just make sure you check the oil. There have been problems with oil consumption. I love mine too but had had to have the engine replaced. It was still under warranty. There is a common defect inside some engines.
@@mr.c1563 Mr. C how long have you had your's for ? and how many kms has it done. i got rid of mine they are shocking cars, my new car is so much better im so happy i got rid of the jeep will never buy again lol
Love it.
I have a 2019 limited multijet2 and love it🙂
Amazing car very nice car
Don't forget to mention that they do NOT include a spare tire, however, you do get a defective "inflator" kit that does not work. So, Jeep will leave you stranded to save themselves a couple of bucks by not including a spare tire and not mentioning that during the sale.
I’m 19 years old , I love this Jeep since a couples months ago and I start working a week a go and I star saving money to get one but I don’t have credit do you think I can get one a least in 4 months?
I got the Jeep latitude, I absolutely Love it!!!
Just bought mine and the 1.4 turbo manuals is awesome and fun
Still happy with it?
Yes Scott are you still happy with it ?
It’s super cute. I would buy it as a high good road height commuter but I wouldn’t plan on any off-roading with it. Seats are very uncomfortable for tall people.
I have the white one which I do prefer to the Orange. It is stylish tho.
If you look on the pertol cap there is a spider
Where are the reviews for the Wrangler? I would like to see Sahara vs Rubicon, Petrol vs Diesel?
I bought the trailhawk edition. 4x4 2.4 engine. Its amazing!!
amanda hardy how is your experience
Still happy?
Me as well
Goddamned right it’s amazing
I have a renegade, but mine is an oldie (2004)... but still love it and have spent no money on it to this day (2018) other than normal upkeep ie. brakes, things like that. Excellent on gas.
Margote how? They didn’t debut until 2015
@@angrymuffinsb maybe she time travelled and purchased one from the future?
Really? I thought the first year they made the Renegade was 2014? I have a 2016.
Huge defect inside some engines causing it to burn excessive amounts of oil between oil changes.
I do love this jeep, however, there are some serious concerns. One, it will have electrical problems with the lights. The main problem is the transmission jerkings. I had mine fixed because it was a recall. It resolve the problem but not 100%. Also, keep an eye out for the fan belt housing. There's concerns about it malfunctioning much too early for this model. All in all, it's a very nice vehicle. One good advice on all vehicles, MUST HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTEE, bu most don't cover electronics.
Same problem (I think). Which dealership resolved your problem? Would like to discuss the symptoms with you PLEASE ad000@webmail.co.za
Hi there, can you give me more info regarding the gearbox jerking issues and the recall.
We have it🤗
I love my Jeep Renegade
Do you have the latitude? Any regrets? Ever drive on the beach in sand? Snow? I am about to buy. A bit hesitant with the mixed reviews
test drove this today not bad...I'm between the Qashqai, Honda HR-V, and this one!!!!!!
NicBunnymen It's been a month, what did you decide on?
Chad I ended up buying the Qashqai in diesel. Thanks for asking mate.
NicBunnymen thank god you did anything is better than the Jeep you made a very good choice to stay away lol
I love my renegade it rides very smooth
wont be lovin it for long, trust me you will see.
I think it is a great car.
do you have one and if so for how long have you had it?
lets see if you even make it to 20k miles without transmission problems, electrical issues and all sorts of other BS, then when you go to sell it or trade it in your jaw will drop when you see its only worth $10,000 to $13,000 USD and its only 2 years old. they have terrible resale value and are complete junk. but thats what you should expect from something made by fiat- a DODGE company aka worst most unreliable vehicles in the world
adventures and quadcopters are you talking about dodge or vehicles made by fiat?
Not a Yeti, its a bigfoot. Nice video.
its a fantastic car it does it's job well
How to Lange in India
Is this a fast car because I’m thinking of this as a starter car but I don’t want something that’s fast
It's not a race car that's for sure. Not really speedy but peppy.
if it comes to India
it will be instant hit
Does the Jeep Renegade come with a FULL Spare Tire?
Yes, it does!
No mine doesn't come with spare tire
Full size spare comes with it, but only if you don't get the skyview sunroof.
@@drfix2020 Not true. I have SkyView and a full spare
@@ABookerM seems like it's a hit or miss, what ever is available at the time of assembly I guess.
Should've been signed in Italy and built...any where but Italy.
Am I the only person who thinks it reminds me of the Jeep Patriot
X Chris X it has more of a Jeep look...
The best suv, no 1 magnificent
2.4 Oil Burner
Oil burn dealers refuse to admit don’t buy
Did he say $375,590!!!!! Are you kidding me?? I paid $21,000 for mine brand new with all extras, sunroof, roof fog lights, rails, etc.. in 2004. Is this one dipped in orange gold?
He is from South Africa and the price is in South African Rand LOL....
i'm sitting in a rented one right now and can't figure out how to open the friggin trunk! you go back there....to point out the tiny silhouette of a yeti climbing a mountain? Yeah, nothing helped me with this video.
Its a button not a lever in the middle.
Five Dee if you cant figure out how to open the trunk you should not be driving a motor vehicle you dumbfuck!
So, if this model has Fiat engineering and Fiat manufacturing, I would think this model would be more reliable than your typical Jeep.
Hummm, none of us know what it costs. You gave the price in a currency very few in the world would know. Perhaps you are not interested in having an audience outside of South Africa.
+bloodandwinearered
Starts off at around $20k in the US. The 4x4 Trailhawk, $25k..Looking at this myself, though I am a Wrangler nut, still....
Hi there, thanks for watching. We love our international audience, but we are a South African-based consumer publication and classified company and so our pricing has to be in Rands. The issue is that a straight dollar/euro conversion would not only be out of date almost immediately due to our volatile currency, but because South African motor importers, like Jeep, pay a substantial government tax on complete vehicle imports, the price (even when accurately converted) is completely unique to our market and irrelevant to a buyer in any other market. We hope that in spite of that you still found our video helpful.
+bloodandwinearered dude please....this is the 21st century. As far as I can see you have Internet access. Though you might be from US due to your lack of self motivation of going into Google and finding the answer in 1 minute. I live in America (the continent not US). Reviews are good the guy is nice stop being a hater PLEASE.
t0urniquet Ignorant piece of shit.
Only one thing you have to know...............DON'T BUY or LEASE IT. I have one and it's the absolute and complete worst nightmare of a vehicle I have ever driven in my life. I have had it in the shop 9 times already. 2015 latitude. Very very delicate and unreliable. Be warned. Research the problems before you even consider this one. They are MANY.
Issues with the renegade you are having?
Scotty warns against getting this vehicle. He even laughs about it with Fiat engineering
I have a 2015 don’t buy it terrible car unless you like going to shop to get it fixed
biggest lemon i ever purchased .
47,000.00$ turd i regret buying....
What happened?
I had to get new engine didn't even make it to 5000 miles brand new and burns oil bad about a quart every 2000 miles and yes bought brand new 2.4 engine dealer said already replaced 25 engines this year for 2.4 liter engine burning oil
Was going to get one for the wife, found out it was a fiat with Jeep badges. So we went with a Lincoln MKX instead.
Not entirely sure if he's trying to be funny or he has no clue what a Jeep was and he's serious in his review. Scratching my head in confusion.
Good looks?
It reminds me of the old Rava four by four from the eighties. It's bloody horrible.
Uhhm it's on purpose the boxy look is retro Look, i like it
I like the look too its just something that looks feels amazing
1. DON'T BUY THE POS!
2. TONS OF ELECTRICAL ISSUES
3. 9SP TRANS IS VERY ROUGH TO SHIFT
4. DID I MENTION IT'S A POS
5. WHEN PARTS NEEDED, THEY'RE ON BACK ORDER FOR MONTHS
i hear you. I have leased this piece of junk. Grocery list of problems.
I bought a left over 2015 2.4 Latitude new in 2016. It now has 41k on it and it has been perfect. It rides smooth, goes through anything and gets great mileage. It's a blast to drive and it is pretty quick. I love it!
GaynNovi does pos mean piece of shit? Why don’t you just type it out? Also did you buy it used or brand new?
My trailhawk had 1 problem with the cooling fan other than that it's been an amazing ride
I just bought a 2018 Jeep Renegade I got the Latitude package and it was brand new they knocked the price down to 19,000 I added a 5 year or 60 tho mile
bumper to bumper warranty so I got it for 23,000 plus I added the GAP!
It's not a Jeep! It's a Fiat with a bunch of Jeep badges.
and thats why it is extremely unreliable. Fix It Again Tony! F.I.A.T.
Do you have one??
I know one think. It's ugly
Piece of sh*t. Consumes vast amounts of oil. Have a 2017. Dealer did oil consumption test that resulted in having a new motor put in. WTF the new one uses oil as well. Putting oil in every 600 miles. I love keeps, also have a grand Cherokee, but the renegade is JUNK
I have 2017 model and i change oil every 20.000 km it doesnt burn it at all...
Its 2.0 Multijet 140 hp
Trash car. Overpriced. All kinds of electrical issues
Overpriced? LMAO. It’s the cheapest in the entire line up of Jeep’s. I’ve had mine since 2016 and not one goddamned issued. Go have another swig of the whiskey.
@@LordOfNothingham its overpriced compared to similar vehicles, not other jeeps. It's a very low quality jeep.
It’s a total piece of shit after 50k miles.
The Jeep brand has been forever destroyed by Chrysler and now even worse under Fiat.
I have this car its ugly and terrible leave jeeps alone and save your money and get a wrangler instead
Daniel Clark wtf you just said leave jeeps alone but to buy a wrangler??
for how much? $25k more?
Had a wrangler. A gas-guzzling, death wobbling money pit....but I still loved it.
