    Congratulations young lady! I remember taking my drivers test. Back then (over 50 years ago) in Pennsylvania they were given by the State Police. My friend and I went in at the same time and we both failed. The officer told my Dad that he could have passed us both, but "Kids have a tendency to get cocky if they pass the first time." 52 years of driving and no accidents and just 3 speeding tickets. I'm glad you were able to pass the first try. 👍👏👏

    Congratulations! I never had a doubt that you would pass. Now I'm going to give you some geezerly advice that my great father passed on to me about 45 years ago as we were putting gas into my out-of-gas car along a lonely road in the middle of a snowstorm at 2 in the morning. "It's just as easy to keep the top half full as it is the bottom half. Don't you ever get me out of bed for this again"

    • @annwithaplan9766
      @annwithaplan9766 Před rokem +2

      I agree. I learned the hard way, twice, and ruined my filter thingy when I ran out of gas. It was an expensive mistake, too. I always try to fill the tank up when I get close to the halfway mark.

    • @hilkaahlers5855
      @hilkaahlers5855 Před rokem +2

      True....you can burn out your fuel pump (thingy 😀) if you run out of gas, So best to refuel before you get 1/4 low. Best of luck and enjoy the new freedom.

    • @brianpulstsr8680
      @brianpulstsr8680 Před rokem +1

      @@hilkaahlers5855 Yes I agree it's best to keep your fuel pump thingy (fuel pump in layman's terms) submerged. It is in the gas tank and is very expensive to replace. It has an electric motor that runs much cooler when submerged which leads to longer life.

    • @the_voice_of_reason

      I’ve had a similar theory, 1/4 tank is empty, but I do live in a town with plenty of petrol stations, if I lived in the sticks I would adopt the 1/2 tank method too.

    Hi Nevaeh, Keith here in NC. The day I took my driver's test was the day we were going to NC to visit family. Dad's job moved us to Iowa. We were in mom's car, a 4 door, 1972 Buick Limited, huge car. We stopped in a town. I'd never been in 45 miles from our house headed to NC. I drove around w instructor and passed. Got my license, and drove my family the next 300 miles. Didn't drive again till after midnight a week later, on the way back to Iowa. I came up on a new intersection under construction, no other cars anywhere! I went ahead and went through it, even though it was turning red. Dad, snoring, said, "why did you run that red light?" How did he know? Dad's have special abilities w their kids. Your dad sure is one of the good ones. Congratulations. Stay safe. Every car around your car has a stupid idiot, not paying attention, so you better!👍❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

He taught them well for both summer and winter driving. Both successfully received their license 's near their birthday's and drove all winter without an accident. Dad was proud, oh and he also made them learn to drive a stick. Best type of car to have in AK in the winter😅.

    I remember when I took my test. The lady told me that I can cross my hands over if I wanted to because she wanted me to be very comfortable behind the wheel, and I was very comfortable. She said that if she followed what the driver's book tells each driver to do that no one would pass, so being comfortable was her motto as a driver's testor. Congrats on your driving test girl, I knew you could do it.

    When I took my driving test... over forty years ago, the rule for hand placement was 10 and 2. In the intervening years though, 8 and 4 became safer due to air bags... you need your arms down and away from that potential deployment range. I am not sure if the official legal rule ever changed, though.

    45 years ago, I took my test, I also made One mistake. He said I cut the turn to narrow. That was coming off interstate and at the stop sign I had to turn left. He said I needed to go further towards my lane. In a place where there was little traffic, he set up a scenario of, "a kid running into the road chasing a ball" When he said "KID!" I stabbed the brakes, he said good job as he was picking his clip board up out of the floor, he then told me he never had anyone react so fast! I was all smiles. Congrats girl, a big step in growing up! I hope Dad has taught you how to also change a tire too!

    Congratulations!!! I did fine on my driver's test 42 years ago. Then my mom got back in the car and I ran a stop sign right by the department of public safety (Oklahoma's version of the DMV), made a left in front of another car at a stoplight. But got away with both with no tickets or wrecks, lol. 19 years later, I got to do it again in a semi to upgrade to a commercial driver's license. I was nervous on that one too, but I did fine. As a teen, I was well practiced at driving because when I got my learner's permit, I became my mom's chauffeur. While I was just on my learner's permit, I got to drive my dad's classic 57 Ford convertible to storage when he moved in with my future step mom while he was recovering from major surgery. Who knew 42 years ago I'd end up driving for a living.

    Try to remember not to let your gas tank get below half a tank before you fill it up. And that helps with two things. It helps with the sticker shock of what you having to put out for gas each time, and two in case of an emergency if you had to go a distance for some reason you wouldn't have to stop and get gas right away you'd be able to go for several hundred miles.

    Well done, Nevaeh! One of those milestone steps. Like school, the learning process of driving well continues all your life, if you're smart. Like with horses, the biggest cost is not the purchase, but the maintenance (and insurance). Mobility comes with a price. And as you said, living in the sticks comes with a cost as well. All that solitude and wild life demands that you be more mobile than your legs can provide. Life is full of such tradeoffs, and being financially successful in life means making those tradeoff choices as thoughtfully as possible. You will make mistakes. Try to keep them small, and learn from them! But along the way, enjoy yourself (to a reasonable degree)!

    "Congrats on getting your license Nevaeh" 👏🎉🚗. Took me 4 years from getting my drivers permit in (1998) at 16 to finally getting my license at 20 in (2002). $25 each 7X I had to take my written test because I didn't pass it the first 6X, and took the behind the wheel 4X and passed it on the 4th time. Had to pay $50 each time I took the behind the wheel test at the DMV (in California). Had to pay a total of $375 within 4 years to finally get my license in "02". Have had my license for 21 years and had only got 1 ticket in 20 years. Have perfect driving record since (2005). On top off my mom raised me and my older brother by herself and couldn't afford to get me driving classes and had to teach me in the parking lot of a school nearbye when school wasn't open. Living in California sometimes its pointless to get a license though because allot of people just take Uber and avoid having to pay for car expenses and gas and just pay for Uber to take them to and from their destination they want to go to. Depending on the city you are in it's cheaper that way than having to pay to get your car fixed every couple years or so if you don't trade it in or get a new car.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You did awesome Nevaeh! Ive had my license now for over 35 years and i don’t always like
    driving anymore, especially in rush hour traffic and big cities. Have fun with your new found freedom!

    Well done Nevaeh! It's really good that you are going to get used to driving in a rural area for the most part. City driving is no fun these days. Most drivers are not as focused as you are. They drive for a while and get careless and take risks. 50 years for me with no accidents and only 2 minor citations. So what if I drive like a driving instructor. My insurance is very inexpensive! Don't let anything distract you from your duty behind the wheel. Period. Always do your mental checklist before you put it in drive. You're an impressive young lady.

    First off congrats on getting your license. Enjoy your new freedom.
    As a fellow Subaru Outback owner, a tip on your electronic parking brake. Always apply it while your foot is on the brake, otherwise the car sometimes rocks forward/backward in park and getting it out of park later becomes tough (shifter kinda sticks).
    Also not sure if your model has this feature, but if the electronic brake is on, and you put it in gear while brake is pressed, then give it gas, the car will turn the brake off. This feature exists on my 2016 model, but I can't remember if my 2011 model had that feature or not.

    Just an FYI, gas pumps will put anywhere from a $75-$150 hold on your credit/debit card when you pay at the pump. That is a practice of the banks, not the gas stations. If you don't have enough on your card for that hold, we have to pre-pay at the window.

    Yay!! I drive a Subaru as well. Mine is a 2021 and I have been driving for over 45+ years. I will tell you the first time I had to fill up my car, I also could not figure out how to open the gas door. No levers to pull or buttons. Turns out when the car is off, you have to push on the gas door to open. lol. So just remember, figuring out the gas door is not always as easy as it seems. Congratulations!!

    Back in 1972, we were taught to cross our hands while turning. Turning right, left hand first turns the wheel to the right with the right hand crossing over to grab the remainder of the wheel and finish the turn. Opposite when turning left - right hand first turns to the wheel to the left with the left hand grabbing the wheel to finish the turn to the left. But that was back in 1972 and in NC. And hand positions on the steering wheel: 10 and 2 (like the clock 10 a.m. for the left hand and 2 p.m. for the right hand. My how times have changed.

    Congratulations Nevaeh! Getting your driver's license is so much fun! You will be a good driver, I think. One word of advice to you. Learn to use your mirrors when backing up. It takes a little time to learn, but it will be so much easier on you! No more straining and contorting to look out the back window to see what's behind you. 🙂

    Young Lady, you did a great job preparing for this momentous occasion in your young life.
    Having taken my test when I was almost 18 yrs. old, I can still remember being as unsure as you were but only 67 yrs. ago. I am praying for you and your entire family as you all make this journey together. God's spead.
