    I had the cockroach ROM when i was a kid. Amazing improvement.

    4:45 No you do not have to cut a hole in your 1541. The parallel ribbon cable can snake out the vents, or past the tolerance gaps around the IEC power socket or fuse holder.

      I have a parallel modded 1571 and snake it under the IEC power socket

    Very nicely designed ROM PCB! Thank you for providing awesome projects and I look forward to the re-programmable model. Although in most cases you won't be changing your ROMs that often. Just put on the ones you commonly need and build another one if necessary for the less used ones.

    This is cool, I ordered the ready made one immediately! Now I can take out the JiffyDOS -rom and the switch finally! Thanks from northern Europe. 👍

    17:53 I find kapton tape is handy to get the part in place. then Kapton tape is also handy to prevent getting solder in the holes next to the part.

    Sorry to go off-topic amd hijack but what's happened to Mr Lurch? Its been a while. Hope he's ok.

      Mr Lurch is "on hiatus". He made a post under the community tab of his channel about 2 months ago explaining his absence. He posts semi regularly to his twitter account, mainly to do with toys these days.

    My types for ROMs are: stock, JIFFY, JIFFY Dolphin Patch, and JAFFY. As for the switcher - 2 resistors + 2bit microswitch, which fits perfectly into an empty channel switch cutout in C64C.

    Haha... I was wondering why the tower of EPROM looked so familiar, been ages since I looked at it 😅
    The design by bwack originally used the PIC as the MCU, but his project was upgraded a year later or so to use AtTiny. I mainly just adapted it to blink as a basic form of feedback.

      Ah, that makes a lot more sense now. I was wondering why your GitHub page mentions bwack's version using a PIC as well. Thanks!

    Nice low profile design ! I think I got most space optimized in my design, but with a socket on the mainboard it still builds too much height in some cases.

    Does a kernal switcher which uses keyboard exist for the C128?

    • @TheRetroChannel
      @TheRetroChannel  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I think there is a way to do it using the caps lock key on the 128. But it's not something I've looked into just yet

    20 minutes are not too long. No reason to split it into two parts 😪
