  • Have you had someone talk over you before, maybe someone is zoned out and has that glazed look over their eyes when you are speaking? They are not listening to you! They might be hearing you, but they are not actively listening. Only 25% - 50% of what someone says, is actually heard by the other person. Therefore, it is even more important to make sure that you develop strong listening skills.
Active listening is definitely a skill but it is the most fundamental interpersonal skill, and with practice, you can fine-tune your abilities to not only listen actively but SHOW you are listening too. If you are a manager, leader, or even colleague, it is vital that you can show interest in what other people are telling you - you will not only show more respect but could also gain it this way too! Being able to actively listen, you may, in fact, be exposed to new perspectives and enhancing your own mental development.
There are 5 areas that I share with you in this video to help you begin to start developing your own abilities to actively listen to others; be focused, don't judge, reflect, clarify, and summarise the conversation. Have a go the next time you are in a conversation and see what you can learn!

Awesome perspectives! Active listening is so important - I discuss it in the last video on my channel also in a mindfulness + parenting context; I hope our videos inspire people to be mindful! Just subscribed to your channel too.
