I live in Colorado, and the small talk and compliments are normal here, too. I’m a regular at several coffee shops and have made a lot of good friends just from going to the same place multiple times per week. American friendliness can come across as insincere to people who aren’t from here, but I think most of the time it is genuine. I've lived in four different states, and this has always been the case. 😊
Colorado is also a very health-focused state in regard to diet and exercise. It helps living next to the mountains and having a lot of sunshine that makes you want to be outside!

You are so fun to listen to ! 😃💕 I feel encouraged hearing how many things you are loving here , especially how friendly people are . I live in MN and take it for granted until I visit some other states I don’t find as friendly , yes I think there are several less friendly states . We love our pets too ! I do so hope you can get a dog soon ! Places make it far easier to travel with pets now , maybe it can work out soon ! 🙏🌿😃❤️

I am a Los Angeles native and have lived in LA county all of my 50 years, which is certainly not typical. As you pointed out most people here are from somewhere else a different country and a different state. It is a breath of fresh air to hear that somebody’s having a great time here and appreciate our fine town and everything it has to offer, versus the jealousy inspired distain I typically hear. In terms of friendliness, this is definitely an American thing. I think every state or town is a little bit different and smaller towns, that you might find in the Midwest are even more hospitable, if you can believe it. Still, for a international mega city, Los Angeles is very welcoming in my opinion. I just spent six days in Copenhagen, and didn’t talk to a single person outside of ordering food. In terms of the drinking culture, it does exist, but Thanksgiving isn’t a strong example. Moreover, I think we are very excepting of all food and drink habits, probably because we are such a melting pot and not entrenched in the traditions set by so many other countries

Yes! Last year in Copenhagen I too spoke with no one other than employees of restaurants or shops. I'm a fairly friendly person, but ....

Hi Anna ! Yes, small talk is real in America. I live in New England and I enjoy interacting with people everywhere I go. I also like to make people feel good by complimenting them. I feel like it’s important to be a light in the world and a source of positivity that said, West Coast people have a reputation for being a little bit shallow, they tend to engage people who are tall and thin and beautiful, and who appear to have money, such as somebody holding a camera. But my nephews live there, and they are genuinely some of the most lovely people you would ever meet, and not a bit shallow.

i am a big bliever on the fact that there are no "bad" countries (at least within the 1st world ones), but no country will fit everyone. And I do think a big tell whether the city/country is for you is whether you feel like you fit in. People often try to make themseves fit in, when if you found your home country - you wont have to try.
I am happy ou have found your match, and I hope more people will see this as an inspiration to go out and find their own match.
I moved into Hungary a year ago, and even tho I never thought I d fall in love, I did---the city, the people, the culture, the lifestyle - it just fits and I hope everyone can find that *click* in their life too.

The alcohol thing is new. There was a huge local beer culture here pre-pandemic, and it still exists in pockets but alot of people have cut waaaay back for various reasons - health, cost, less peer pressure to pretend you like IPAs (haha), and a big embrace of sparkling water and iced coffee. There's even a growing tea culture.

That, my friend, is the Evangelical Christian roots, which permeated American in 1850, 1930, 1950, from its "Great [Spiritual] Awakenings". There is still residual, and American is still known to have the or one of the most engaged Free Christian Cultures in the world, long after Europe abandoned the dead, shackled Christian culture which at times tyrannized it. Possibly, the person who invited you for Thanksgiving was an active involved Evangelical Christian, or from those family roots. You actually find that culture all around Western 3/4th of America ... but not so much in the immigrant dense cultures of New York & Miami. There are also plenty of not friendly people, but loving one's neighbor is central to America's Christian roots. Fitness is highly dependent on moderate winter locations in America, where people can be active all year long, especially beach locations.

I’m so glad you’re having a good time in LA! I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I started watching your videos recently to learn before our trip to Italy! You should visit the southern states! The more you travel in the US the more you will start to experience the stereotypical “American” culture. I wouldn’t say LA is a fair representation of the whole country.
However a lot of what you’re saying is true in most states. There are lots of intelligent, kind, beautiful people everywhere here!
We definitely find foreign accents enchanting and interesting!

I'm a native Angeleno but California is a really young state even by US standards and most of us are, at best, 2nd generation transplants. So we are all used to being "the new person" and try to be friendly to other new people. I know my friends and I love an excuse to play tour guide or network with new people and yes, we all have some kind of side project we are working on. 😂

I walked down Rodeo Drive and spotted like 3 vloggers just going back to my car. It's difficult to get around the city without running into at least one film crew doing something. Los Angeles is like the most well documented city in the country I think 😂

You should come to Dallas. We are much nicer than most of the peeps from California. To explain the day time activities. As Americans most of us invite new acquaintances for daytime activities as to not imply a physical expectation or just as a first meeting. Your new acquaintances might also know you have a partner. It is looked upon as impolite to invite someone out to a bar or evening activity if they are married, especially if you don’t invite their partner along. It depends on the situation, but going out during the evenings is usually something for closer friends, dates, or unattached singles. You are very welcome here in the US and I strongly encourage you to see more of the US. There are many stereotypes about many places that just aren’t based in facts. From the good people here in The Lone Star state of Texas we welcome you to come see what we have to offer.

Los Angeles is a lot about « looks » you have to look hot and be in shape to be noticed. It’s a pressure set by society in Los Angeles . There are a lot of influencers in Los Angeles and people with money who make a living from their looks .

it’s mostly to do with the people that can afford to live in that beverly hills are seriously rich people. an average salary worker has no chance of affording to live in los angeles affluent suburbs. The american attitude is always welcoming but it is multiplied in rich suburbs of LA.

This is so true .. I feel like in Europe you can have a decent life if you are employed. In the US to have a comfortable life you have to run your business. Or have several sources of income. It seems like the best way to me 🙂

in las vegas when i was there in 2017 every person i started any kind of conversation immediately was very engaging complementary etc. it really pushed me aback totally unexpected. the airbnb hosts were unbelievably helpful as well as the other occupants. it’s definitely not the case in Australia 5/10 in welcoming factor California and Nevada 9.5/10 in welcoming factor 😁😁😆

  • @Dan-fo9dk

Anna you seem to ignore an important little factor.....which is that not everybody who go to USA is a young woman.
My girlfriend and me ....both European....lived and worked for some time in San Diego, California. We used bicycle to get around. When my gf where out biking on her own she had a puncture of the tire. There were loads of people who came and offered help ....and were willing to drive her where ever.... When I was in same situation in same area ....no one stopped.
We were visiting a national park in Utah. When my girlfriend walked along the road ...in evening ....and in darkness...well....at least 10 cars stopped and asked if she needed help. When I had walked the same stretch 10 min earlier ....no one stopped.
Maybe you should take a little reservation in your conclusion of "how helpful" they are.

Thank you so much for sharing 🤗 I really hope it was one off situation for you and the rest of the world will be kind and more helpful ❤️

If you are happy there then live there! Don't assume the rest of the country will be the same though. Southern California has some of the best weather in the world and it's great for agriculture as well. I'm sure this has a very positive affect on it's people. I've never been there but from the descriptions you give it's VERY different from my area of Wisconsin/Illinois.

If you're brave enough though, and you wanna see where the biggest American stereotypes, are ya gotta go down south or to the mid-west. Cause yeah, the coastal cities are going to be your most cosmopolitan/multi-cultural. Which is cool in its own way, but not the full " 'Merica" experience that we get stereotyped with.
