In an exclusive TV interview, CNNMoney's Laurie Segall asks Apple CEO Tim Cook about privacy, regulation, and the future of humanity's relationship with technology.
The interviewer asked some very timely and important questions that are relevant for all of us, and she was very informed about Apple, generally. Good interview. It gave Tim Cook a chance to really state Apple’s policies clearly and decisively-It’s always the role of the interviewer to be humble and ask the questions she or he may already know the answers to. I’m sure I’m not the only one who believes Tim Cook has been a great CEO for Apple. He even risked jail time when he stood up for our privacy against the FBI who wanted new software to open our data. Steve Jobs was not going to make the same mistake twice-he knew what he was doing when he groomed Tim for this role.
That's stupid , because Google and Apple are immensely interdependent. Without Google, Apple would not have enough software, and Google would lose a large % of their userbase without Apple
@@jimbruttan69420 Yeah, I think Apple consistently has this rhetoric of blaming other parties (app-makers, governments) for problems of privacy , while also being the host of platforms like the app store, where they allow all of this to happen for financial benefit. This whole digital economy is based on a erosion of privacy rights, and they can't really distance themselves from it without taking huge losses.

user choice is not at all a priority at apple. Their devices have custom screws that make them unmodifiable, non genius "partners" are subjected to license threats and fines if they dont comply with apple ordering standards, and theyve been caught intentionally making devices with lifespans that match their next generation of devices. they're such an insular, disingenuous company. they dont give a damn about consumer choice.

She doesn't really ask tough (follow up) questions, it's 25 minutes of reading questions from a piece of paper and admiring him. Could've been a better interview
He might be in some ways. But in the days of privacy scandals, she might've been more tough on Apple's role and history. A day before the interview, news broke that Facebook shared data with Samsung and Apple. I'd like to see some tough questions on that rather than his views of Trump etc. This simply was an extended keynote, an admiration, not an interview. And remember: this company is worth more than entire economies and that comes with great power over consumers. So they too must be held accountable www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2018/06/04/facebook-shared-user-data-samsung-apple-smartphone-apps/
Probably because she probably owns Apple's stock and it has performed quite well in the past years. Everyone is happy when Apple is making money, basically. I am as well.
Tim represents a multibillion dollar company and has strict guidelines and complete power over the interview. All questions were submitted in advance and carefully gone over be rest assured!

It's about whether people are *wasting* time on their devices - it's not about 'addiction' or any other silly catchphrase. Part of being able to manage that requires information on usage and these tools are great for providing that information and an easy way to control reminders on usage.
Apple? I bought my Ipad 8 years ago. For some mistake (my 9 years old used it without my permission) my Ipad was locked and I cannot use it anymore. I bought it in one of a big mall in Jakarta, Indonesia but I dont know exactly which store is it I bought from. I do not have the purchase documents anymore. Password doesnt work anymore. And when I went to an Ipad seller, he asked me to fill in the password, and it is always wrong. What should I do?
It's actually her job to be "clueless", that's the role of a great interviewer. You think Oprah never knew the answers to the questions she'd ask her guests? In most cases she knew more than the guest did. It's the interviewer's role to give the guest the scope to explain their position to the most ignorant among us, the lowest common denominator of the general public, within the framework of the topic. It's an art that requires a great deal of humility, and background research. You can't ask the questions if you don't already know the answers.
A nice marketing strategy... The current mobiles has a back up of more than 12hrs.. but Apple has a max of 8 hrs. The defect in the product is also being marketed in a great way...
Humans turning into robots is already happening. So many people glued to their iPhones everyday and we are losing the human interaction aspect of life. I also agree that data is power.
I love Apple. Their perspective on privacy is great and their products are amazing to use and at an affordable price to most people. I saw some windows machines with the same specs as iMac Pro going for about 1.5x the price.
Is it me or was she asking questions in a way that makes her seem passively aggressive? Also, why was she asking some personal questions making Cook feel slightly uncomfortable?
Regardless of my political view or yours. Its amazing to know we have a CEO as powerful as Tim Cook, thats willing to stand up for the rights of its users. Its truly amazing to see someone so inspiring and true to himself standing in the world spotlight for what he believes in. A pretty great role model for the next generation that's for sure. You were a great successor to Steve and he knew you would be, why else would he pick someone like yourself. Hope to have you head this company for the rest of your life as well. Especially now in these stormy moral and ethical technological times. We need someone heading one of the giants with a proper head on his shoulders. It would be interesting to measure and compare the IQ of iphone users and the android users. Years ago there was a similar research that reported that Firefox/Chrome users are generally smarter than Internet Explorer users.
Would ask him why VPNs are removed from AppStore in countries where human rights are not quite respected - also why are they an Irish company still in regards of taxes etc. / it appears that all they do is feeding AAPL or isn’t it?
I find people's concern about privacy to be quite humorous. People are so concerned about privacy yet they're using privacy-invasive services every single day - Facebook, Google and CZcams to name a few. People switch to Apple for privacy, which, I'll admit, is a good thing; They're way more trustworthy than Google and Microsoft. With that said, the thing that 90% of iPhone users do, when they get their iPhone, is download Facebook, an app that collects, sells and even tracks every single thing you do on your phone (even collecting your voice conversations). Not just Facebook, but Twitter, Google-based services, etc. If you're going to use these so-called apps, you might as well switch to Android. Even then, iOS isn't any better when it comes to privacy protection; Apple still collects every iPhone user's information to serve you a better experience. Does it make it a right? To me, no. In other words, if you desperately want privacy, avoid using the internet as a whole. Privacy is dead, plain and simple.
Austin Kyle I know a guy who’s 30, still uses an old Nokia phone, has no social media, does not use Google and always goes online behind a VPN. That is privacy dedication. I don’t give a shit. Google probably knows me better than I know myself. 🤷♂️
iOS uses differential privacy and anonymizes all collected data. They gather statistics but no data that can be traced to you and all data collection in iOS and macOS can be disabled.
Austin Kyle Austin Kyle Austin Kyle You're wrong about two things. 1. If your voice is being recorded in the background on iOS, there will be a red bar on the top of your screen. This feature cannot be bypassed and you will always know if your voice is being tracked secretly. 2. iOS is the best for privacy protection. Yes, data is collected on every user, but it's stored LOCALLY on your device, not on Apple's servers. Your device then uses AI to give you a better experience. This means that your privacy is still safe at the end of the day, unlike on Android. Furthermore, if you want to see what each of these companies has on you, you can. Facebook, Google, and Apple all have places where you can download a document containing all of the information they have on you. Here's an example: USA TODAY apple.news/AH2oixV_9QVa03db7jGYkQA (On their servers) Google had 27x more data stored on this person than Apple did while Facebook had a whopping 98x more data. This proves that Apple doesn't want anything to do with your data and is the most privacy-concerned company any of us have ever seen. So, to debunk your opinion "iOS isn't any better when it comes to privacy protection", it really is.
Few days ago I subscribed to a CZcams channel and that channel had a paid service, after that I am getting ads for that service in every other website.
I was surprised that Apple did put on privacy. Like why would they care? It's a company just like other big companies. It's not going to make them more money than not putting privacy. I'm surprised hopefully they continue and not bogged down by other companies.
well people working in factory (making iPhone for example) are definitely like robots... That is what makes them more like robots if they were using smartphone.
It's the Apps that make it addicting and the fact it has a screen. I think they should implement a simple phone screen that can stay in call mode that won't use much screen brightness, so it can simply be used as a phone. I keep my phone off most the time. I truly think apple should have simple phone. One that you can hold up to your ear knowing that it's not bringing radiation to your skull. It could be a companion to the smart for or replacement. Ultra low power mode low emf mode would be the singular best innovation that would help people be more healthy in their digital life. Not just tracking activity but actually changing it by design with modes that help in that. We see this in car mode. There should be a child mode as well. Tracking activity also means more data gathering more battery usage. Both are downsides for users. Ultra low power mode and Simple phone modes would be the best innovations for helping humans be less addicted to their phones.
