When you really take in the lyrics to this it is utterly devastating. I've seen him cry whilst singing this, from the front row
Gary is on record stating that he doesn't think about what the song is about when he's playing it. If he did, he wouldn't be able to deliver it

Thanks guys. Just to give you some background to this song. Before Gary and Gemma had their 3 daughters Raven, Persia and Echo, they actually lost their first child. This song was written questioning what God is after the loss of her. It is regularly used in his live shows and can be quite emotional.
They lost more than one child.

The ‘Gary mix’ of this song from Hybrid is the best version, in my opinion. A heartbreakingly sad song, you really feel his pain at his wife’s miscarriages.
A stunning live song. The original was written back in 2000 and is a very personal song hence some heartfelt lyrics. This version isn't Gary's original arrangement but I love both versions. Keep up the great work and more Numan whenever you feel like it!

The lyrics are what make the song! It’s a tragedy. He’s singing about a lost child. He is cursing God. This song is so powerful and deep in emotion. As a Christian, it was hard to take in. As a father, I understand! Great song!!!
Another Gary Numan classic.. I saw him do this Live when he opened for Nine Inch Nails on their Hesitation Marks tour.. It was Great!.

The guitar player is Mark Gemini Thwaite. I saw this tour. His regular guitarist, Steve Harris had to fly back to the UK for a family emergency. MGT has played with a lot of greats: The Mission, Peter Murphy and recently with Big Paul Ferguson of Killing Joke.

This version is different from the (Pure) album original, but is the one he performs as a staple setlist regular year on year.
It's a very personal song about the miscarriage of gary and Gemma's expected first born.
I saw Gary's show in Manchester England in 2001 touring the 'Pure' album and he performed (the original) version of this.
When he finished, there was an unearthly silence, probably more out of shock of him playing this given the subject matter of his recent heartbreak.
Gary looked up and quietly said "Thank you" to the crowd who then went nuts ♥️

A lovely song, and despite the German lyric, I think you'd get the gist.

Next week Gary is performing 3 very special shows in London. They will be his 998th, 999th and on Saturday his 1000th. So I thought you might honour this achievement by reacting to a song which he performed on his first show as Gary Numan and the one which kick-started his fame and was his first no.1 hit. The Replicas Live version is the best in my opinion. I’d try ‘The Chosen’ next, then ‘here in the black’. Both are epic.
This song is fantastic, although I have to say after seeing him in concert doing this song this wasn't even his best performance of this.

Good song, straight from the heart. But to be honest, many fans of Gary (like me, I've seen him play live 59 times) are tired of him including this song at EVERY live appearance for over 20 years. Mix it up, Gary!

great track, but I personally prefer the album version...
I used to like APTFU until he played it as part of an encore on every tour since Pure. It's become utterly tiresome and he doesn't even play his original version he uses Andy Gray's backing tracks.
He plays cars too often its that which needs chucking out of the set list, never liked that song. Of course tapes are used, it's electronica you'd need 50 synth players otherwise
