That Zegras deal idea has a smell of Drouin for Sergachev to it…
Zegras has put up more points twice than Drouin has ever had in the NHL, they're not the same
But they are both soft like a wet noodle
@@chrismoerike2428 how soft was Zegras looking when he torched team Canada and the rest of the world juniors?
Different game in juniors
the difference though is that they have too many defs this time...
Heartbreaking that we only get 1 episode per week. Love this podcast.
Am seriously disappointed in this discussion specifically about Zegras. Both of you have previously mentioned that our Habs LACK physicality... Now you're talking about Caufield Zegras RHP Mesar Newhook Beck ???
We already get pushed around. Adding Z makes us a joke
Finishing bottom five for two years also makes this team a joke.
Agree, we have more than enough lightweights...after Xhekaj there's not a lot of grit.
I’m glad that Arpon isn’t Montreal GM. Zegras will make us soft. Skill yes but isn’t the type of playoff player that we need
Whether he is the GM or not, he is right in every aspect. Talent like Zegras doesn't grow on trees, like many seem to think, nor does the opportunity to acquire such talent. Players who aren't "soft" are easier to find then high-end offensive talent, thereby cheaper to add to the lineup. The only question to answer is this - does Hughes and Marty believe they can round out his game to be a more complete player? If not, then they will pass on the deal. The RD argument is moot IMO because they are one of the lowest scoring teams in the league, and it needs to be addressed just like the real GM has stated many, many times.
teams don't win with just gritty players.
@@y3ee3e nor with just skill.
@@davidrmouck5608If teams were willing to pay that for Zegra, he'd be gone already. He's 23, not 18. He's had two good seasons at around .75 ppg, then that season that was .5 ppg, and injuries. Yes he probably improves to a .ppg player for a few seasons, but he's complimentary part, he's never going to drive a line on a contending team.
@@JoshuaRouleau Zegras hasn't moved yet because he's not officially on the market, although we know with certainly that GM's, including HuGo, have had talks a bout the possibility. His age is irrelevant, his skill set is. To think he would not drive the offense on his line is simply ludicrous. There will be a bargaining war over this player sooner or later, whether HuGo outbids them remains an unknown.
trading reinbacher is coocoo bananas. Zegras isn't what we need.
Kent Johnson - 21yo, 6'1", 168 lbs, LW/C - Lots of skill, coming off an injury, pretty one dimensional. I could see him flourishing under MSL, but I could also see him becoming Drouin at his worst.
Patrik Laine - 26yo, 6'5", 206 lbs, RW - Someone is going to buy low on Laine and if he has found his game, it'll be an absolute steal. I really hope he finds the place that will support him properly. MTL is probably too busy for him, and he doesn't really fit our timeline.
Anton Lundell - 22yo, 6'1", 185 lbs, C - Probably a good middle six forward. Doesn't have the offensive upside I think MTL will be looking for. I think Florida really likes him.
Dylan Holloway - 22yo, 6'1", 203 lbs, LW/C - Could be a physical top-six player. Had good chemistry with Caufield. Don't think Edmonton will trade him.
Trevor Zegras - 23yo, 6'0", 185 lbs, C/LW - Highly skilled. Possible point-per-game player in the near future. Some bad blood between him and ANA management. Finished the season injured. I think it would take a big package to get him. Might be a headache if we did.
Martin Necas - 25yo, 6'2", 189 lbs, RW - Had 71 points last season. Needs a new contract and CAR maybe doesn't want to pay him. Would take a lot to get him, but he'd fit the top-six for sure.
Alexander Holtz - 22yo, 6'0", 192 lbs, RW/LW - Wasn't being used much under Ruff. Looks like a breakout candidate. Top end scoring talent. Not sure why New Jersey would trade him, but if they do, he'd be a great fit in MTL.
Cole Sillinger - 20yo, 6'0", 197 lbs, C - Still very young, all-around good player. Highly doubt CBJ would trade him, but maybe he wants a new start outside of the chaos of Columbus.
Arthur Kalieyev - 22yo, 6'2", 190 lbs, RW/LW - Solid scoring prospect with good size, but isn't getting much opportunity in LA. Needs a new contract. I don't think KH goes this direction.
Cole Perfetti - 22yo, 5'11", 177 lbs, LW - Smaller skilled forward who hasn't been getting a lot of minutes in Winnipeg. I think he'd be a good fit, but I expect KH will want somebody with more size.
Get me Necas and trade Anderson next summer. We don’t need that cap space yet
Ghule is already showing he is worth it..what big injuries lol. He played 70 games this yr and most last yr..Hes big physical blocks shots and enough offensive but will only get better so its a no brainer to sign him now long term
I think when the dust settles it will be struble that is traded. Not because the Canadiens don't want to keep him, but they would rather keep Mailloux and Reibacher and Struble will be the peice that other teams want the most
Zegras is good and would help but the thought of Hutson - Reinbacher and Guhle - Mailloux pairings for the next 10ish years would make me pass easily....
issue with reinbacher for zegras is that the argument will be made that why didn't the habs draft michkov, benson, leonard instead of reinbacher if they were going to do that. 100% zegras would be compared to those 3 forwards even more than reinbacher himself as they all develop
Don't wanna get rid of reinbacher just yet. He has the potential to be the best amongst all our young D. Would hate to have another sergachev / McDonagh situation
Great show guy ...theme song soo good the soup of the day no good .
Thanks for all the work you two put in this season. It was a Blast listening to them all. Looking forward to more draft content as we approach the lottery and the actual draft. Hope you guys some rest/time off after the playoffs! Go Habs go.
Count me in on a trade for Laine. Especially if Columbus retains salary.
Interesting debate on the Zegras trade idea. Godin said something that irk me a little bit tho. He said that trading Josh Anderson now would be trading him at his lowest value with I agree, but it is also the same for Trevor Zegras. Although his two way game improved, his offensive production dropped significantly and he spent most of the year off the ice with some gnarly injuries. Waiting a full season to give Josh Anderson a chance to recover a bit of trade value does the exact same for Zegras, expect that Zegras's ceiling is much higher than the 20 goals freight train Anderson has been at his best.
if you trading Josh Anderson right now makes a Zegras deal work, you do it.
I think Mialoux will be a top 2 D-man. I think he’ll be better then Reinbacher, and is more an overall rounded then Reinbacher.
I feel the negative situation that involved Mialoux has people down playing his ability
Would have liked to hear what you think a Mercer trade would cost?
I'd give Laine a try as he is a potential gamebreaker. Kakko can be a good middle 6 add on the cheap also. Extra talent on the roster
Mailloux or Reinbacher both 1st round picks Had Logan not asked to be left out of the draft where was he expected to be picked Top 10 Keep the Frenchman in Montreal from Belle Riviêr
If you have good pro scouts, you should be able to get the right players in trades.
YAY! Oh What a day!
Trevor Zegras is easily the most overrated young player in the NHL. Unless ANA is willing to let him go for relatively very cheap, I'm a solid 'no' on any Zegras trade. DEFINITELY not for Reinbacher or Mailloux.
But for real, I love your podcast and really value your opinions. keep it up!
Your music has a Presidents Of The United States vibe.
Not a fan of trading Mailloux or Reinbacher.
If i were to build a trade for Zegras id try something like Anderson, Barron, 1st of Jets and 1st of Flames next year.
Catchy intro song!
That Laine deal would be awesome. Slaf-Dach-laine
godin is having tunnel vision regarding his relunctance to trade josh anderson thinking he can rebound. hes not looking at zegras who had 16 points this year who is wayyyyyyyy more likely to bounce back to his top line 65+ pt ways. an anderson bounce back is what? 35-40 pts? not even close
Zegras for reinbacker is a 100% no go , zegras has a big contract coming of his worst season and was hurt alot . Now Laine to play 2nd line wing sounds good to me .
There is no way Habs give up either of Mailloux or Reinbacher for Necas. Both have significant odds at becoming better than Necas long term.
NecaS is a futur 80 point player
Basu with the Fins hat. Smart man
Zegras as a give away maybe
There is no way the Ducks go for a package of Mailloux, Anderson and the Jets 1st for Zegras. its not enough. Habs OF COURSE do that 10 times out of 10.
Kent Johnson sounds right.
So you’re saying there is a 17% to pick first or second lol
I'm not sure I'd have any interest in Dylan Holloway. I think his ceiling is basically as a third liner.
if the ducks were willing to do Mailloux, Anderson and the jets 1st Zegras would be a Hab already, needs to be Reinbacher I feel sadly
I wonder about Arthur Kaliyev
Imagine thinking Anderson can get better trade value...
For that Laine trade proposition, instead of Clb retaining on Laine, what if Mtl adds Anderson to the deal and adds a sweetener (Win 1st + Mesar?) Anderson adds some character and grit, goes back to clb, mtl takes a gamble on Laine and clears term
Columbus isn't taking back Anderson lol
@@isabelleblouin wishful thinking but idk more likely that Columbus takes back Anderson than him going to Anaheim for Zegras
What about Baron, Harris, Anderson, and Winnipeg’s 1st, with some kind of retention via a 3 team trade for Zegris. My worry is he is small and lacks in playoffs, I don’t see him as gritty as Caulfield.
And no offence Arpon I don’t think Reinbacher is good as Mialoux and think you are over valuing Reinbacher, and underestimating Mialoux on ice intelligence. Didn’t break first yr Dman record in the AHL for no reason.
If Laine is happy i think he would thrive. Let's face it and no offence men't, but Winnipeg and Columbus don't seem like his type of market.
What is Arpon's Zegras Boner about!! He's small soft and doesn't play D, why would the Canadiens want that?
Get Mailloux and Reinbacher off of your lips, they aren't going anywhere. They are the future of the RD spots for the Habs.
Zegras....I am on the fence. Not worth Anderson Mailloux or Reinbacher and picks.
Anderson and 2 firsts, (Winnipeg's and Calgary's). I wouldn't give up more than that
Zegras is absolutely worth a package of Mailloux, Anderson and the Jets 1st, however the Ducks won't go for that, it isn't enough for them. It would be a no brainer for the Habs because I'd rather keep Reinbacher anyways. If the trade is one for one, Reinbacker for Zegras, again I don't think the Ducks do it because Reinbacher is still too unknown
@@gylduran9217 Not worth giving up either Mailloux or Reinbacher in any package for Zegras. This has Drouin/Sergachev written all over it.
@@viper29ca I disagree when we have an abundance of defensemen and we need offense. It wouldn't cost both of them so we'd still have Hutson, Guhle and one of Reinbacher or Mailloux, with Reinbacker having the better ceiling, that is still good.
@@gylduran9217 Better to have both. Yes, we have an abundance of D, so time to start getting rid of the dead wood. Harris, Barron, Kovacevic, etc. Mailloux and Reinbacher are going no where and are the future of this team going forward, along with Guhle, Hutson, and Xhekaj, and if they are, it had better be for more than Zegras, IE not worth either of them.
Sorry, I just don't put Zegras in the same light as some would. Flashy? Yeah. Can he put on a show, yeah. But he is a defensive black hole. Not saying he can't learn, but clearly hasn't learned so far.
Not worth the cost some are implying.
@@viper29ca hmm I disagree I think he would be worth the cost because Suzuki isn't PPG yet, Caufield will struggle to score more than 20 every year and Slaf is big for nothing. We need elite offensive talent and our bargaining chips are defensemen and picks. I question our ability to get FA's to come here which means we need to trade for pieces and we can't keep drafting forever, we need to start challenging for the playoffs.
Zegras is a showboat who doesn’t play D, Habs are not making that deal
I would not touch Zegras with a 10 foot pole !!!! Jo Drouin all over again our gm is more intelligent then that ! This is not Berg 😉
How about Zegras AND Necas?! Then draft Lindstrom to round out the top nine 😉
I'm with you Basu, if you get a chance to move Anderson's contract for a talent like Zegras, you jump at the opportunity. No point waiting to try and revive him in Montreal.
RIP the great Bob Cole, called the last Hab's championship 🙏
I wouldn't risk trading Mailloux for Zegras when RD is already very weak. Anderson and Gally's contracts aren't significant issues either. Give Roy top 6 minutes instead and see what he can do.
@@RandomPlaceHolderName Neither Anderson nor Gally are part of this teams future in any capacity. If Anderson lays another stinker again next year, his contract, like Brendan's, will be immovable. And that IS an issue, both in cap space and contract slots. IMO, when HuGo completes his top six, Roy will be a third liner along with Newhook.
@@davidrmouck5608 And both guys only have 3 years remaining. By the time the cap is a problem, Andy and Gally will be gone. Relax.
@@RandomPlaceHolderName I am relaxed thank you, in three years this team will look nothing like it does today...that's the point.
@@davidrmouck5608 That's really not the point here as we both agree the team will look different.
Andy and Gally's contract aren't significant issues is the point.
Arpon you have to remember Godin is apart of the French media. They LOVE their french Canadian kids and parting away of Mailloux is an anathema to them. Its why you have Laraque pining for Dubois and he isn't alone. You have plenty of French media pundits saying we can reform him. that he will play to his full potential here.
Reinbacher is a beast. He is big, he is fast, he has great hands and he is a much better defender then Mailloux. He is better then Mailloux in every way, yet Godin says Mailloux will be the better offensive player? That shows his French bias.
The idea that you can hope to see improvement from Anderson, like what world is this going to happen. Do you know why his point totals have been dropping every year? Its because Marty has instituted a east west style of play. Montreal for the LONGEST time was a north south team under Beregivin. He wanted this style and he got it from his coaches. Anderson is a north south player and has a very specific style of play that fits this style. Montreal does not play this way anymore. Montreal is constantly trying to activate their defense into rushes, using passes and holding onto pucks to enter the offensive zone. This is the style of offense you want to see, its what I wanted for so long. And Marty is bringing it into Montreal. But the problem for Josh is that this doesn't fit his style. There is no way we are going to see a revitalization of Anderson. I just don't see it.
What does Josh Anderson do best? He dumps the puck in and chases and bangs the boards. This is not what Marty wants. He wants his D to carry the puck and use their vision to pass to wingers when the opponent commits to stopping him. He wants wingers and forwards to play with more intelligence to set up attacks. Not just cycle the boards. Why do you think Slafkovsky is excelling in this style? He is a power forward like Anderson. Yet he has several advantages over Anderson. He has vision, he has the ability to hold the puck and wait for players to get open. This isn't Anderson's game. Anderson North South player. Slafkovsky East West player. You see the difference?
I agree with you Arpon. I would love a trade like this. Move Anderson, the Jets 1st rounder and Mailloux for Zegras. You are not getting a Zegras type player at pick 26 or 27 where the Jets pick will land. Moving Anderson and freeing that cap space for players that fit Marty's system is important. This would be a great trade for Montreal.
Small sample size on both Mailloux and Reinbacher. Too soon to predict the future of either one. Zegras is a no, Drouin 2.0 IMO.
Please no Patrick Laine! Please no. Not a team player. Causes trouble wherever he goes.
Sounds like a Bergevin move to me…
What's the rush with trades, this team isn't winning anything anytime soon.
Who cares about making the playoffs if they're not good enough to win the cup.
Molson, that's who.
