How to Fix a Squeaky Steering Wheel - SUPER EASY - Common Automotive Repair
In this episode we show you how to fix a squeaky steering wheel on our Mercedes wagon. These same steps apply to all vehicles. On our Mercedes, you have clear access to the steering wheel boot at the firewall.
Depending on your vehicle, you may need to remove some paneling underneath the dash to access the steering wheel boot.
The squeaky steering wheel started in the winter months when it was colder. It would typically go away once it warmed up, except this year, the squeaking continued well into spring!
The fix is super easy and involves spraying silicone spray on the edge of the boot and inside the booth.
We used 100% silicone spray and the problem has not returned for 5,000 miles. We wanted to give it some time before posting the video to make sure the repair wasn't too short lived. So far, the noise hasn't returned.
We recommend 100% silicone spray as it won't damage any electrical or rubber components.
