      I went to a Mercedes dealership and they said they are going to charge me $800 to fix it.

    • @JOSEF7011
      @JOSEF7011 Před 6 měsíci

      It is caused by turning the steering wheel after removing the key. For example, when getting out of the car, you hold onto the steering wheel, the latch locks the steering wheel, but the tensioned steering wheel does not allow the latch to be unlocked. There's even a counter that counts the wrong unlocks, and after a few failed unlocks the steering wheel lock locks up and has to be fitted and a new one programmed. It is possible that you have inadvertently caused the fault yourself :-)

    I watched these videos and shake my head. Most of them on here do it this way. But there is one I found and I did it his way so I know it works. The guy show you how to do this and he only removed the bottom bolts and loosen the top two bolts to allow the steering wheel to be lowerred just enough to work with your hands. Took me literally 15 minutes to remove everything and about the same time to install it back to original form. THE KEY IS YOUR Steering wheel HAS TO BE UNLOCKED

      Yes, my small emulator just hang anywhere/ zip tie it or wherever you wanted to place it. For the reason , some esl doesn’t to come out if it’s in unlocked position . And it’s very concealable .

    The part is $400 for my GLK350. But the dealership would not sell me one with the programming key. It had to be tied to a service order, $2000 USD repair. But I am going to try another dealership, if they will not sell me one I will just go emulator route.

      If you think it’s your esl is defect, replacing the ignition switch will not fix it. You ah e to replace the ESL or bypass it with ESL emulator .

      The early chassis use the plug & play type emulators. The 204, 207 and the 212 chassis use this type and it has to be programmed. This can be done by a qualified person with the proper equipment on the car or the EIS (ignition swtich) and the key can be sent out to get the emulator programmed. The specific one he is installing can be purchased though the mail for around $120 incuding the emulator, shipping and programming.
