    This is a great discussion!
    I have done this myself many times!
    My comment does not really deal with the possibility of doing this or physical constraints, (amplifiers can handle this) but rather running room EQ on subs that react differently than what the EQ software is expecting.
    The room EQ software is written with the assumption that the output impedance of the amplifier (or sub-out) is matched to the sub input impedance in order to make the necessary adjustments to the gain (mostly) and to a (lesser extent) freq. response.
    By doubling, or quadrupling the number of impedance loads on a single sub output, and having no way to tell the software that it is driving into a smaller impedance could lead to incorrect settings.
    That's all.
    And, yes, I DO know what I'm talking about. :)

    You can also use a good quality RCA "Y" adapter at the subwoofer input by either piggy backing to additional subs or feeding a left and right. I like using those instead of y-cords.

    I I have my dual sub outs split twice each....running 4 subs. I have gone as far as splitting 3 times to run 6 subs. Works perfectly with very little signal voltage loss. If you experience signal loss you can add an ART CleanBox Pro to boost the signal levels and change from RCA to XLR as well. The other option is to use a MiniDSP to boost the signal levels (along with using the DSP settings for each channel) Nice video man.

      @Youthman  Před rokem +1

      I have never found a use for Zone 2 so that is an area I’m not familiar with. My guess is the preouts are tied to the main zone so if you were wanting to listen to music say in the bedroom on Zone 2 with a sub, you could use a subwoofer that has a line level inputs. So AVR to sub with speaker wire into line level inputs on the sub, then speaker wire from the sub to your two speakers.

    Thanks for this info. Would it degrade the signal, or should I avoid using multiple RCA cables between the receiver and the Sub? For instance, an RCA cable from the Receivers to a wall plate I installed which then converts RCA to shielded Co-ax to another wall plate where the Sub is, then I convert it back to RCA and plug it in to the Sub. Should I avoid this and use grommets in my wall to ensure only a single RCA cable is used from end to end?

    Only half way through your vid so far, but...
    Please remember that paralleling two subs from one output halves the input impedance of the two subs.
    This can have dramatic effects on the response and performance of both subs.

    • @garryhammond3117
      @garryhammond3117 Před 5 lety

      Finishing the vid...
      Paralleling four subs would be even worse.
      Typically, each sub input is ~50K ohms - to operate correctly (and match the O/P impedance of the amplifier)
      Two sums in parallel would half that to 25K ohms, and those in parallel with two more would be only 12.5k load on a 50K output - a bad mismatch.
      No?

      @@Youthman Excellent! - I am not an engineer, but engineers I work with are quite concerned about matching input and output impedance between one device (circuit) and the next.
      A lot of speaker and amp spec. sheets will list the devices input or output impedance for a particular input or output.
      Look over your component spec sheets and know that resistances in parallel divide (and resistances in series - a rarity in audio), add.

    I have asked this question a number of times of reviewers and have not received an answer from anyone so could you help me? Preamp with single RCA sub out. Split the signal going to a HSU sub and another to a SVS.
    If I set the preamp volume at say 9 o'clock and adjust for a great frequency response everything is fine. When I turn the preamp to the 3 o'clock position will the two subs and the main speakers still have the same frequency response or balance between all three?
    As the preamp voltage increases, will all the amps and speakers respond the same way or do different amps have have a different ratio between input voltage and acoustical output? If so it may mean that for every volume setting the sub output level(s) have to changed to achieve the correct balance. Please help as I am considering a two sub setup but really need to know this first.

    Although this video was one of the best, if not THE best, at showing the How to for multi-sub connections... one simply cannot make multi-sub connections without also taking into account where each Sub will be placed -and- how their given AVR / Preamp Processor handles each of the Sub 1 and Sub 2 outputs. In other words, one must address Volume, Distance and Phase for each Sub connected / placed in their HomeTheater. And the above has nothing to do with Subwoofer EQ'ng, or Room correction, or REW, etc. For even if one chooses to not do Subwoofer EQ'ng / Room correction, one still must get Volume, Distance, Phase and Placement of their subwoofers correct. How they're 'connected' is most often dictated by all of the above considerations, and not the other way around. Yes, another video for sure..., however I wanted to throw this out there just in case some folks take away - "all that there is to it" is a couple of connections and I'm done. Sorry, but far from it if you want it done right and sounding good / correct.

    Thanks Youthman, another good video where my heart is.. the subs. SVS uses directional cables. Is this snake oil? Which way is the arrow supposed to point on these cables?
