  • Rigging Cowbells and Spin N'' Glo's is one of the best ways to catch deep water Lake Trout. Lake Ontario has some of the biggest Lakers in North America and the Saiff Charter Fleet fishes for them on a regular basis. The fleet specializes in taking Big Lakers that best the 20 lb. mark. In this video, we show how to rig Cowbells and Spin N' Glo's in the manner that we use them. 3 Lake Trout were taken on this day that all broke the 20lb. mark. The video is live action proof of how deadly these techniques are. Capt Bill Saiff III

    We generally don't troll the cowbell set-up more than 10 ft. Behind the ball. Keeping it tight to the Downrigger ball, will help the angler control the pattern.

    Bill...Been a long time! Miss fishing with you! Great to see some beautiful lake trout being caught. Still talk about the big brown trout I caught! Tight lines and safe trips!

    Do you run a dodger in front of them or is that spin n glows just hooked to a swivel?
    Thanks.

    Hi Captain Bill,
    I am a subscriber. Could you tell me which knot you use with the flourocarbon?
    Thanks Jim

      I am using the improved clinch.......I believe it's also called the TRILENE KNOT.

    Do you also use trash can dodgers instead of cow bells

    Can you please tell me what size Spin and Glo you are using. I want to try this set up for Lakers on Lake Simcoe once we can get over this Covid-19 uglyness. Thanks in advance and stay safe

      Size #2 & #4. You can also use a #1 but sometimes thats a bit too big. Generally #2 if its a single troll. The #2 with a #4 if its a tandem troll.

      @@BillSaiffOutdoors I have one more question if you don't mind. Do you always run a double spin n glo set up? Do you find that more successful? I just received my order of Spin n Glos and am about to set some up.

    • @BillSaiffOutdoors
      @BillSaiffOutdoors  Před 4 lety +2

      @@robgionet9582 I will run them as singles alot...... If the Lakers get "fed up" I will run a single tiny spin n glo with several beads between the spinner and the hook. This "set back" is like running a stinger hook. When the fickle trout comes up on the spinner- it already is on the hook!

    ITS A SHAME TO KILL A TROUT OF THAT SIZE, THEY SHOULD ONLY BE FISHED IN FALL TO SPRING NO DEEPER THAN 50-60 FEET SO THEY ARENT HARMED. THE LAKE TROUT RECOVERY WILL NEVER HAPPEN IF PEOPLE KEEP PRESSURING THEM AT DEEP LEVELS,THEY NEED 50 YEARS PLUS TO GET TROHPY SIZE.

      Yeah I have too agree that it is a shame. Especially with recovery efforts going on and the age of fish. They really tend to taste like garbage when that old anyways. Though i fully respect his right to keep legal fish and make living. Seems like skilled fisherman and a decent person.... note with a descending device you should be fine to catch them in 60 feet. They have a really great survival rate in swim blatter troubled fish ... barotrauma.ucsc.edu/descending-devices/ In some fisheries (parts of washington i believe) there mandatory to have on board. Ive heard after a certain depth there not as sucessful
