  • Choosing the correct "Spoon Pattern" for summer King Salmon is critically important. In this video Capt. Bill Saiff III shares some patterns that are "Known Producers" on summer Kings! The Saiff Charter Team also discusses fishing larger Kings below the perceived activity. We refer to this deeper fishing as "Fishing the Ice Box"! Watch as we drop downriggers below the visible King activity to trigger strikes on Bigger more Mature fish. See techniques for fishing Michigan Stinger "StingRay" spoons, Moonshine lures and Pro-Troll E-Chip Flashers. There are lots of great tips in this summer King fishing Classic!
    The Bill Saiff Outdoors family has a national reputation for pushing back the boundaries of great lakes fishing and hunting. Their goal has always been to provide the best fishing and hunting experience available on Lake Ontario and in its fields, marshes, and backwaters. Their syndicated sport fishing program, Bill Saiff’s “Rod & Reel,” has continually spurred interest in their part of Lake Ontario. In accordance with this, the Saiff family operates an eight-boat “Saiff Charters” fleet equipped to provide anglers with a great fresh water experience on eastern Lake Ontario.
    The Saiff family also owns and operates Seaway Waterfowl Professionals (SWP), which offers exciting puddle duck, diving duck, and Canada Goose hunting for the novice to the experienced shooter from early October until late December. SWP uses the latest equipment and well-trained hunting retrievers to ensure your hunt is the memory of a lifetime.

    I know someone who goes against convention and refuses to use dodgers. She doesn't like how the fish sometimes bite down on the flashers which obviously will not hook them. She's retired now but she ran her own charter boat for 20+ years on the west coast and she did very well with most of her bookings coming back as repeat business.

    Thanks Bill, I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned from tips!
    Quick question, you talk about giving up a rod to attract the fish to the other displays. What if you ran the flasher off of your downrigger ball with how ever much line you wanted it back with no lure attached. Then attach a stacker above he ball (maybe 10-15’) and run a spoon off of that.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

    I know this is old video but I have a question on the "wingers". Do you need to increase the size of the downrigger ball to use these? what size ball would be adequate to fish just spoons as deep as 100 feet down? and is it safe to fish wire divers still with these out but fishing higher with the dipsys? thanks hopefully u get this. super deadly info on here thanks again

    Love the videos Bill! Do you run 8” or 11” flashers when dedicating a flasher/fly rig into your spoon pattern? Thanks!

    • @BillSaiffOutdoors
      @BillSaiffOutdoors  Před 6 lety

      During the Summer King Fishery (Hot Zone), I am usually pulling 8" Flashers. Once the Staging Period begins, we start rolling more 11" inch paddles.

    First time out trolling for Salmon and had on a flasher and fly. It's running on the surface only. Is that how it's suppose to be?

  • @Noidea242
    @Noidea242 Před 4 lety +1

    I assume you are running 9 rods or more you clear all your lines for that? I am a big fan and a capt. Of my own boat yet on the north side of Ontario and I will clear my down riggers but leave my dipsys and my planners

    • @BillSaiffOutdoors
      @BillSaiffOutdoors  Před 4 lety

      Actually, most days it's just a 5 or 6 rod pattern. When we structure fish (which is what we are doing in this video) it is counter productive to fish more rods. We are threading the needle in specific areas so a scattered blue water approach doesn't work. If I were fishing deep uncluttered waters, I would keep the throttle up and pull very few rods to land a fish.
