BEST PIZZA in ITALY! NAPLES Pizza vs. ROME Pizza!
Vložit
- čas přidán 22. 09. 2018
- When in Italy, the food item I wanted to eat the most was of course pizza! But just like New York and Chicago, there is a great pizza rivalry as well between Rome and Naples, Roman pizza vs Neapolitan pizza. One uses olive oil on the crust one has a pizza police.
So I decided to try out both for myself by dining in Rome Italy and then traveling down to Naples.
Here's where I went:

Hey man where you live i bet there is something we cant get anywhere else whether its bbq, good beef, fresh eggs etc…we all have something to offer!
That “ancient square” is actually where Julius Caesar was assassinated. I went to Rome last summer and was standing around that wondering what the hell it was, googled it and was very surprised to find out it’s the location of one of the most famous assassinations of all time!
Et tu, Brute
I just love his enthusiasm for food. It genuinely makes him so happy which gives me as a viewer a feel good factor too.
thank you for appreciating my beloved pizza🇮🇹🍕
I think Italy just became my favorite country in Europe(it has always been one of my fav countries though)

Man I had original Italian pizza once, and my life was never the same again...
Mike you are showing enjoyment of food porn. 39 years since I was in Italy.
Yeah, it's kind of regrettable eating fresh Italian pizza because the Pizza back in the States will never taste the same.
PoundFor PoundKing same here in Germany, but luckily I only need to drive for 4 to 5 hours to go to Italy.
Asia
But...but dominos.
Who else loves Italian food? 🙋🏽♀️ I had an opportunity to go to Italy two years ago and I can’t wait to go back. Italians don’t realize how lucky they are. Love everything about them. What a lovely country!
Hello Leonaza I Love Italian Foods 😋😋
I go there every year because i have relatives in Sicily. And yes, lot of stuff thats awesome there
I've always wanted to go to Italy ❤ Such a beautiful country with delicious food 😍 I hope I can make it 😁
..."Italians don’t realize how lucky they are" si, fino a quando non ti ci tocca vivererci e cominci a bestemmiare per quanto il governo faccia pena, le tasse ti uccidano e quanto siano tutti dei gran ladroni... massi' in fondo è un bel posto in cui vivere (e qui potrei citare non so quante canzoni partendo dal grandissimo Rino Gaetano)
One of my dream countries I want to go to
I'm glad they have English subtitles now on the pizza menu. I had pizza in Naples 30 years ago and a group of us didn't know any Italian language. All we could do is point to an item on the menu and got surprised with the result. Surprised at all the vegetables such as peas, potatoes, arctic chokes, and more on the pizza. A big change from American pizza.
"i'm just checking wether it's legal to marry a pizza". i couldn't stop laughing. i love food too, but you just take it to a whole new level. LOL
Eating pizza in Italy seems like a rite of passage.
Bucketlist fo sho.
It is
the only one worth writing off
As well as authentic pasta
:ladynikkie-- if you tried the pizza you would be too stuffed all the time for pasta trust me
That is the difference between original pizza and what lots of us call pizza today.
Original pizza was as much about the base pastry as it was about what was on top.
Where as today, lots of us look as the base as nothing more than a medium to hold all the toppings.
True
It is like that around the world. The French invented Puff Pastry and the early dishes made out of puff pastry, the pastry was supposed to be the star, but now the pastry is just a medium for what it contains or comes with. The same as the Greeks and filo pastry even though it was invented in Turkey .
We take a lot for granted these days, and are not as impressed anymore.
I can relate, even to traditional and semi traditional dishes from where I come from (South east Asia). They're over focusing on toppings.
Actually pizza was starvation food, you made a flat piece of bread and threw whatever you had left over on there.
I would happily eat the base on its own. I only have cheese on my pizza and no sauce. I used to work at Pizza Hut here in New Zealand and at the close of business the boss let us make a pizza with the leftovers and I always took home a base with nothing on it.
There was an Italian pizzeria and restaurant here in Philly (owned by Italians) that made a pizza with pistachio pesto, was literally my favorite food. Went out of business during COVID sadly, but Mike isn’t kidding, its probably the best tasting thing any lover of savory things will ever eat, especially when combined with mozzarella and parm
You can make pistachio pesto at home in 15 minutes. Use a mortar and pestle
Funny someone in America has had this experience there, but probably the best pizza I've ever eaten in my entire life is pizza con "crema di pistacchio" in Siracusa Sicily, my province. The pistachios were probably from Bronte in Catania Sicily, the best in all of Italy. To be honest though, it was girlfriend's pizza!!!
thank you for appreciating my beloved pizza🇮🇹🍕

I just recently came back from studying abroad in Italy, this video made me miss it there already. Best pizza I ever had in Rome (and my whole stay there) was at Bonci near the Vatican!
I can't afford to travel, but I love watching travel shows. I'm also a cook, so I love cooking shows. So watching you eat in different countries is a lot of fun!

Mikey: "You can't cut and fold Neapolitan pizza like they do in New York"

Most of the people here in Italy eats with hands, I've never eaten with fork and knife because I literally don't know how should I eat with them and can't enjoy the pizza

Oh okay thanks, that's good to know 😉

owo ....You pick up the fork in one hand, and the knife in the other. Then you cut the pizza. Then you eat it. Its literally not that hard and the pizza tastes exactly the same.

There’s just something about tomato sauce, cheese and herbs on crust. It’s magical!

When Mike said they told him they were sold out, I could just imagine him standing outside with that cute puppy dog face & a sad violin playing the the back, just looking through the glass or something 😭😭🤣🤣 awww they must’ve felt so bad hahahah
You traditionally cut the napoletan pizza in 4 pieces, you take the quarter, fold it, and if it drools fold the tip on the inside.
Anyway great video as always man, you can feel the connection between you and the food through these.
So kind of similar to how you eat New York Pizza?
I have been to Naples and to DiMatteo. You are right. There is nothing like a Margharita pizza in Naples. It is the absolutely the best!!!!!!!!!!
I have once again made the mistake of watching this video at 1.25am, now I am starving... great....
im hugry too :-(
I can say from my personal experience that none of this is exaggerated or anything. I went to rome and the pizza is so good that I had a hard time eating when I got home.
are you still in iyaly? try one of those cheap 10-15€ all you can eat chinese+sushi buffet places, those are so common here in italy, i go there to eat at least 2-3 times monthly
Hands down, Italian pizza is the best not just because it's so delicious but also because if you've been to Italy and eaten pizza there, you'll realise that it's not heavy. Eating a whole pizza isn't a problem
thank you for appreciating my beloved pizza🇮🇹🍕
I envy your stomach's capacity.
This, and his metabolism. There's a good all you can eat japanese restaurant near me with a 3 hour limit... I'm always super full after about 2 hours while I want to try more and I have to keep it lean for a week afterwards to keep my weight somewhat under control.
I genuinely trained myself to eat all of my favorite stuff
All Asians have big stomachs, but what I envy is his fast metabolism, which most Asians don’t have.
He workout a lot, with lots of cardio
It’s called bulimia
I've been to Italy 4 times and the people there are nice and the food is amazing especially Pizza
Thanks Mikey. I went to Italy in may this year. I still can't get over how beautiful it is and how good the food was. Thanks for these videos. Love you.
I just had an amazing idea. Mike, you should write a book! "The Foodlover's Bucketlist by Mike Chen" I would buy that!
Hi Mikey! Love your videos, just a couple of things from someone who has lived in italy: The first pizza you had in Rome looks like that not necessarily because Roman pizza is more casual. That kind of pizza is called "pizza al taglio" or sliced pizza. It has a thicker, focaccia like dough because it's meant to hold up as it's eaten on the go. You can find it all over Italy. Also, Italians not being restrictive with their toppings is not something characteristic only of pizza Romana. You'd be surprised what kind of toppings we have on our pizzas! Personally my favorite has potatoes, heavy cream and bacon. Much love
My favorite quote: “the most delicious form of patriotism”
Mike, amazing video as usual. Because of you I learn about all the great foods you've shown and where/what to get, and this video especially did the job right. Keep it up my guy!
Thanks Ben!
Man, I love the way you just attacked that pizza, standing in the alley, folding it up like a calzone. I love your enthusiasm!

Watching this video as a tribute to what Italy is going through. Thank them for pizza and hope everyone stays safe.
Somehow Mike continually comes up with novel, incredibly expressive ways to describe his food experience.
Pizza in Italy made me appreciate a really good base, medium thin, with just 2 or 3 high quality ingredients. Fromaggi or Gorgonzola, prosciutto and basil is my fave. Perfect.

I am going to Napoli this year in October, and looking forward to it very much, especially the pizza. A friend of mine stated the pizzas in Napoli are for to die for, and watching this video, I agree. Thank you sir for your time to make this video, regards from the UK
That crunch gave me shivers in a good way.
I Love Pizza 🍕🍕🍕🍕 I Love Italian foods very much! 😋😋😋😋
10:05 “... you can’t cut and fold”. Mike, take this from an Italian living in Italy: not only you can fold that pizza, but that’s actually the right way to eat it. Also, pizza “purists” in Naples, despise pizza from Rome because it’s too crunchy and you can’t fold it (it would broke). They say that’s how you know if it’s a “real” pizza: if it’s real, it will fold.
I am going to Naples AND Rome next months. I know very little about Italy but I LOVE the food. I am a foodie, and now I am scanning CZcams for videos about the food in Naples and Rome, and VOILA... here is one. I never say your channel, but here I am. Lovely!!!!
Why am i watching this during quarantine. This is torture :(
As a tour guide I hope you can visit Italy asap!
Hi Mike! So glad to see you do a series in Italy. The places you visited were so beautiful. And the food looked delicious. But then real Italian food always does lol! From your reaction you definitely fell in love with it.
Food aside what was your favorite historical or tourist site?
This brings back memories! I visited Italy last year and had the best pizza in Naples at Pizzeria Brandi. It's supposedly where the Pizza Margherita was invented in 1889 for Queen Margherita. Sadly, it seems you didn't visit it this time around. That only makes for another trip! Also, you should visit Amalfi, they have the best fried anchovies & lemon gelato! It definitely won't disappoint!

Watching you eat those pizzas made my mouth water. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

You dont have to eat it with fork and knive, cut it in pieces use your fingers to fold a V, that keeps it straight while you eat it. So you can always experience the right amount of dough, tomato, mozzarella, oil and basil
You cannot eat pizza napoletana with your hands, the dough is so thin

Napoli pizza is the best, going back to Italy this year, such a amazing country.
Did you end up going?
difference between authentic pizza and modern day pizza was the dough. Find like a lot of dough nowadays lack
Sean Marchello i’m from Napoli (Naples) and it’s the water that Makes the diffrence
Max Step why the water? Its not the brick oven?
It's the heat of the oven and that it's wood-fired. I think so. Most soft mushy doughs are made by people who don't know you need to heat the crap out of dough to make pizza.
I visited Rome and Naples with my husband this month and went to Pizza Florida because of your video. They were so good. I had to try the tuna pizza and it was my favorite. Delicious!!
