Mowing Our New Commercial Client - Super Tall Grass - Vlog Walk Through

- So today we picked up a new commercial account, this was some footage I was able to capture half way through. As you can see, this place was an absolute mess. It took triple cutting the front to get it back to looking halfway decent. And then we ended up bagging 6-7 bags of grass.
I was able to take this property on and mow it on Mondays, which helped fill up our route on that day big time. This is definitely a chunk of change for the annual contract, as it is going to include snow as well. Super excited to take this one on as you can imagine.

Hey Brian great videos keep up the good work you are teaching a person like me how I could get father in my lawn business when I get older
What are the type of sunglasses you are wearing
Matt Lukas Just some DeWalt safety glasses. These guys have been holding up so far so good this season.
Brian's Lawn Maintenance thank you very much Brian keep up the great work I will always watch your CZcams channel you taught me so much just by watching your videos it means a lot to me thank you
i have a question how do you get the path so clean
farming cuth fresh cement new property last fall
I noticed you mentioned snow contracts - One thing you could get that works for all seasons - Get yourself a Ventrac tractor - it's an articulated "swiss tractor knife" that has a light footprint, so it doesn't damage sensitive lawns. That company makes lawn aerators, power rakes, lawn and brush mower decks, vacuum+high dump attachments, blowers, sweepers, and plow blades that all go to that tractor. You can even have an enclosed cab so you're not exposed to the elements.
+Sara Llewellyn I'll look into it! Those Ventracs are neat!
Congrats you will make it look better with every visit, Brian.
mowing commercial lawns one jungle at a time!
Grass Daddy lol
Brian...regarding your question as to getting a snow truck. I'm sure you have heard of him. The guy that I believe could point you in the right direction would be Andrew Camarata. He would be excellent to check out with good advice.
Best of luck. I like your channel very much. Keep on plugging...
Thank you!
Cleaned up that forest, added massive value to the property great work 👍🇺🇸
ive mowed grass that in parts of the yard got bailed by a farmer for hay, we had to unload the mower bagger about every 6 feet, filled out 10ft x 5ft trailer 2 1/2 times
for snow removal get a 2 spread bobcat. with a good snow blade. you can use it for the mulching next year. two speed is somewhat faster than truck and it lifts. get a 4x4 truck it might help too.
Just a suggestion after many years of plowing snow in Colorado. A one ton regular cab with an automatic and a solid front axle is ideal.
William Mesdag I need a super crew, for my guys and then the fam. regular cab has its benefits but I am going for a 4 door version. Did you run gas or diesel?
Good Stuff bro!
Everyone needs a Walker Mower Collection system in their fleet, cheers mate
Damn tell the fire department that if they ever have to hook up there to bring a trimmer with them lol. great video man
I did strictly commercial for years. My ears perked up on this one. It looks like the last company bailed or were fired prematurely. Sounds like a property management company (cheap, slow paying). Be careful.
Tony Harrell Yeah not sure the backstory. All has been going great! Thx for the heads up!
@@BriansLawnMaintenance If you're up to it: I reckon, having done quite a few "let-go's" that had to be billed at 550-625?
Jungle indeed!
What a drastic difference. Looks awesome now.
Re: a plow truck. Oh boy that is like opening a can of worms. Everyone has an opinion. Well let me tell you mine..LOL
I have a F-250 gas. The truck works great. It has been 5 years now and the only issue I have come across so far is a starter. Now there has been other things but the dealer said I could have avoided these issues if I would have done one thing. That is after the hard winter and all the lovely salt that gets splashed up and around the truck. and that was RINSE the truck down. Take a pressure washer and rinse everywheres. My hubs stiffened up and were almost impossible to turn.. ya rince those too. I even bought a underbody rinse head for my fleet of trucks. best investment I ever made. Good luck buddy.
Nice. I have a budding lawn care business. I use a 1983 John Deere 314 and also use it for snow removal
Thank you guys for making grass look so pretty
Sorry Brian, the real fun is in aotually seeing you work; witnessing the transformation.
I really wanted to see the mowing of that tall grass. Lol
Get a skid steer for plowing snow it will also increase the number of contracts you can bid on because of its landscaping versatility.
The420kingchronic - Brilliant. Many people do not understand how hard plowing snow is on a trucks drivetrain. Forward and reverse over and over, hard stops, torque heavy... You’re everyday driver pickups won’t last long doing that work, especially if it’s deep and wet.
awesome perfect for my lunch time thanks Brian I'm sure it will be good
WOW, you made it look nice.
congrats on the account, tall ass grass but the exmark knocked it out of course another great job by Brian's lawn maintenance
I plowed snow back in the late 80's with a 69' Ford Bronco with an inline 6 170ci. Put that baby in 4x4 mode and it would climb a wall.
Wow great work on the property and another great video!
I love mowing the lawn
Mike here with Everett Lawn Care. New to your Channel. Love the work you do. keep it up. videos great. Can’t wait to see more.
Thanks pal!
That turned out great!
I thought this was because of Coronavirus lockdown but then saw it was 2 years ago 🤣
Lol ikr
A ventrac would be nice to plow snow, we use one on our property
we want to watch you mowing, not walking through. And, you should have collected that.
twosence fromcleveland Check part 2. More mowing. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hey Brian. Love the videos. Learning a lot. Watching for the entertainment value
Thanks pal!
Thats so cool, Thanks Love it
That is literally my yard the last three weeks. I can’t keep up with the grass.
What a transformation!
Moving on up!
the season never ends in florida
Looks great for what it was
Looks amazing considering what you started out with Brian... great job!
Nice job, that was a jungle and the end result looked great!
I love your videos! I'm 14 years old and I'm starting my own lawn mowing business! Do u have any advice? - Reese
Just watch tons of videos, and keep learning!
I would recommend a 1999 to 2002 7.3 power stroke f250 very good truck and very good motor they run great plus you got a solid axle for the plow and it is not unheard of to get over 400,000 on a 7.3 or if you want a dodge get a 12v 2500 also cheap and easy to work on and plenty of aftermarket for anything you might need
Chucky Cowfer Heard good things about the Fords but I plan to keep a new truck for a very long time time so I am going to go new. It'll be a business expense so I'm not worried about the price as much
Great video
Snow on commercial properties can be a nightmare, be sure you have good insurance in case you damage any curbs with your snow plow, it can happen.
I have run both gas and diesel but for snow plowing there is no big advantage to diesel. For towing or longer distances the diesel is hard to beat. The gas engines are easier to start if it gets really cold. The shorter the wheel base the faster and easier it is to plow parking lots.
Gotcha Gotcha. Ya I'm torn between diesel and gas. I don't 'need' the diesel, but I know the benefits. Problem is the dang things cost an extra 8.8k for that option lol. In my case, I think gas will due just fine, AND save me $9k.
I love doing overgrown properties they are fun to me
Job well done......
2 hours!?? Holy hell, I would of been there for 8 hrs no doubt!🤣
that's not bad I've done some that were over my head
Nice job man!
What a good all-around lawn Care, property care, for season piece of equipment? Go with a ventrac.
You know I have my ideas about a plow truck. lol
Austin Denney lol. $$$
good job.
Lol this is in wixom, been to this Sherwin-Williams a million times.
Bingo lol
Do you still have this account June 2018? Updates ? Plow winter?
You need to do a review on the bad boy outlaw stander
10" and it ain't been cut all season yet?? Sc pa I'm cutting that every week right now
What do you do with the grass that is cut? Always wondered 🤔 do you take it and drop off somewhere?
Bag it and drop it off!
Very nice 👍👍
Mannnnnn..... I just came across this video. You've came along way bruh!!!
Lol thx G
@@BriansLawnMaintenance 😍😍😍
NICE WORK BRIAN FROM PUERTO RICO
Thanks pal!
get you a 6x12 dump trailer to collect all your removable trash an grass load once an that's it.
use a bag on your zero turn.
nastynate.2015 well said, next time I'll do that!
Hey Brian its Casey from OBrien Lawn Care hey try using vinegar instead of round up the vinegar is natural and it kills the weeds and its much safer then round up. Keep up the good work brother
Hi Brian I would have done like you said to bag all. I think it would have saved you some time. Nice vid though....
Here is a tip on removing the wind from your video. Let the camera roll for 20 or 30 seconds before you begin speaking. In post, put the audio in the software problem called Audacity (it’s a free download from the internet). Once there you can highlight the first 20 or 30 seconds where you let the camera roll. Once Audacity gets a section you highlighted you can then highlight the entire audio hit a button and Audacity will remove everything in the entire audio. Then you sync the audio with the video. Hopefully I explain that correctly, it’s a lot of time in post but the results are Worth it.
If you are looking for plow trucks, try a used Ford F-250 or f350 with the powerstroke diesel or a used chevy Silverado 2500hd. Great trucks and good prices.
I'd buy a 4 wheeler atv for a snow removal and a bobcat. Also a 4x4
The ATV you can do sidewalks and spread salt with, the Truck you can do a lot and the bobcat is for removing piles of snow off the lot onto the grass or if the truck can't work the lot.
You pay for it in one or 2 seasons depending on how much snowfall you get, also the bobcat comes in handy on landscaping projects.
all total your 120k into it 50k for the truck 8k the trucks plow, 35k the bobcat and bucket and plow and or snow blower by the way that's a 4 season machine. The Atv like I said is 10k and 5k for the snow blower attachment and leaf collection system. Plus you can spread stuff with it. I'd also think about plug cutting and verta cutting as well as seeding.
If this is what you're going to do go all in on it and build a reputation.
I'd alo think about synthetic oil in everything.
The bobcat will last you years, when you're not using it you can lease it out, same with any of your equipment. Also a bobcat can clear vacant lot of tree saplings and tall brush.
You can do jobs you wouldn't think of with it and the right attachments. Same with the ATV.
The truck is good to move equipment and snow.
You might even think about trimming trees. And if you're clearing grass of trash you can use the bobcat to sweep a lot. or run a brush hog mower deck.
+bobbg wow lot of info there ty for sharing and the tips!!
Did you weed the beds a different day? 2 hours to mow and clean all that up? Or did you weed those beds to?
So you blew all those clippings back into the grass and re-mowed it back into a bagger?
I want to get into commercial properties. Any tips on where to get info on who to get with as far as bidding and when? Everyone I talk to almost avoids the conversation with me entirely. To the point now where I hate talking with PMG or HOA's.
James Forsyth Fine the company or president. Ask them when they accept proposals/evaluate contracts. Sometimes it's fall. Sometimes early feb/march.
Brian's Lawn Maintenance I've tried that approach and they still avoid it like the plague. Just didn't know if there was an official way so to speak
Nope. These take time though, I will tell you that. Just keep trying and keep learning along the way and you'll finally get in. Just takes time.
any sugestions on a mowerwith a 46 inch mowing deck that is able to cut 5 acres of land that has about 2 weeks worth of growth of grass?
and it has to be affordable
basicly something with a 46 inch cut that has decent power easy to maintain and it will hold up to 5 acres worth of grass
oh my goodness i was not expecting to get a heart
Check out the Exmark Radius!
Nice job as long as you made money
Hey Brian, I really enjoy all of your videos and the hard work you put into what you do. If you are ever in need of any help with the health of the turf (fertilization, weed control, disease control, or bed maintenance) on your properties shoot me a DM on Instagram. We are located in Northern Indiana about 2.5 hours from you and see a lot of the same things you do and truly enjoy helping other guys in our industry. Happy New Year man and may 2018 bring you many blessings!
Thanks buddy, will do!
I like the 250s too. Everyone I’ve talked to complains they’re thirsty. But super reliable. I’d rather pay fuel bills then mechanics.
Where do you go for bidding?
Question for you! Since there are multiple businesses in the section, how did you find the owner of that land to get the account, or how did you get the account in general! Thanks! Or how would you get a account like this in general (how would you go about finding the top dog?$
Tboy The Rapper They found me. Out of state company called a few local people. I come up first in my town.
Could you give an idea of how much the contract for that commercial property?
did you get the new trailer?
Tony's Lawn care In a week!
Looks great. I just liked and subscribed.
Mercedes Benz Unimog, the ultimate plow truck, hugely expensive, but you never mentioned price. ;-)
Mowtown NI Lol. #onetenthm
Dude. Up there in Michigan I personally think it would help you a bunch of you started plowing snow. But I guess I don't really know anything
How many inches did you cut the grass down to? 3inches or 2 inches
4” on the first clean up
Hey Brian how do you get nice green grass?
Water it
Wow did they use rgs on the lawn lol
my yard was 4 ft. tall it took me 2 hours I had to use my shindaiwa t270
What is "bag"? What do you mean? Im not familiar with this terminology.
like yard / lawn bags.
Yeah how did you bag it?
Did you run a push mower over it to bag it or did you sweep it up to bag it?
if you want a good snow truck either a 350 or a full packeged tundra
Mohammad Maswadeh eye balling a 250.
Holy crap you charging them 150?
I run a sweeper on my mom's yard it gets super thick out there
Don't bother raking and bagging. Just use a push mower with a bag to pick it up :P.
RegisteredGamer I don't own any push mowers anymore!
Brian's Lawn Maintenance Ah I see, well either way, cool video. Not exactly sure why I watch other people cut grass when I do enough of it and tree work but it's interesting enough to see how big time jobs are done. Just priced a $6500 oak tree, if I win the job I'll post videos :-).
Culver!!!!best restaurant there is. I live in the south so I can't go as much.
Have you been using the same camera since the beginning or have you upgraded during the journey? Also what made you go with a camera over a phone? Wouldn’t a phone be easier? Or no? I dunno anything about all of this...
We used a canon T6i. 3 months back I upgraded to a Canon 80D. I love it! iPhone just doesn’t capture the same image quality or have the same autofocus as a Dslr camera. Plus audio is everything, can’t use external audio on a cell phone generally speaking. Just what works for us! Thanks!
Brian's Lawn Maintenance thanks Brian. I knew there was no better to ask than an actor! Hahahaha jk. I saw your story on Instagram yesterday lmao. Had to do it.
I really like the cannon g7 but I don’t think you can put a microphone on that camera. Is that a reason you wouldnt get that camera?
Need to save up or sell a mower to get a mower with a Bag on the back
Or just get a walker mower with the collected
He has a bagger system for this mower.
the sun is going down
soda pop Jones sure did!
Is that near Waterford Township?
Thats nothing the one im doing is over my head standing im debating to use the mower or a chain saw
ur mulch bed turn the weedwack er on an angle then spray roundup quick pro with also sure guard n paint the bed with that u won't have weeds for 3 months
Tyler Critelli good looking out. Had 2 of my guys pick it all after we did spectrum. Ezpz
Do you just walk into those places and talk to someone?
Nah they have property managers
Culver's for the win.
This year has yielded some of the tallest Johnson grass I've ever seen here in Northeast Oklahoma. Here is a short video of one of the tallest clusters. 2-3 feet above the tractors cab!!! czcams.com/video/n1BJrLrbBzc/video.html
