I never understood why they call it HD at the end of the title like it's some selling point these days. I mean it's 2024. HD is automatic these days

Understanding the fact that you would refuse to buy HD remastered games from the past, when this game was confirmed, I thought of you, Vanburen ngl since you made video about not wanting to buy Paper Mario TTYD. For me, I wouldn't mind play DKCR HD tbh.

People (sorry VB20, even you) will always be upset about this N practice, even though they’ve been doing it forever. They’re upset their boycotting doesn’t make a dent. As many will still be buying this game at full price. Therefore drowning out the 5% that boycott the practice for years on end.
I bought it as a 3DS Nintendo Selects budget title with the recommended retail price being $19.95. They’re charging $59.95 on the Switch and they’ve taken away the 3D visuals. I won’t buy the Switch version. What a ripoff
@@diamondjim311272 Takes away the 3D (some don’t even slide it on with games) but makes it HD on a OLED screen system and where the analog stick is much better for platformers. Shoot, I’ll pay the extra $40 for that. 👍

@@vanburen20it also runs at 30 frames per second which is lousy for a fast paced action platformer.
I understand where you’re coming from VB20, but I only own the 3 current systems Switch, PlayStation, & Xbox, so for me I don’t own this game and the only time I ever played it was at one of my ex gfs houses on her Wii back in 2011 when I was 16.
Maybe $60 is too high, I don’t think I’ll be paying $60 for it, might wait for a sale like I did with Tropical Freeze.
As someone who struggles with motion controls and gets very bad hand cramps from holding a 3DS I'm glad this is on Switch because I've always wanted to play this but never been able to.
Almost same here. I just don’t like the 3DS stick on platformers. Not as precise as the Joy-Cons (don’t crucify my JC defending). 😅

I mean I bought Skyward Sword HD day 1. Yea it's lazy but they've been doing this forever. Last of US and Tomb Raider were released 1 year after their debut yet a 15 year old Wii game releases and Nintendo gets heat. People just need to get used to it. Its never changing. People love their Nostalgia.

I'm buying Returns HD because I'm a DK fan and I want to support Donkey Kong.
This was the best we could realistically hope for when Ninty fans who supposedly love DK pissed and moaned about Tropical Freeze BOTH times it released.
0% of you will keep this same energy when Windwaker and Twilight Princess HD drops for the Switch for $60.
I'm not gonna buy it either, mostly because Donkey Kong isn't my jam, but I didn't complain about paying $60 for the Links Awakening remake.
Why didn't Retro bundle it with Tropical Freeze in 2018 if they're gonna go through hell on developing Metroid Prime 4?
I actually like the idea of putting this game on switch. The original wii game has forced motion controls which not everyone is a fan of and the 3ds version obviously is low res, so bringing it to switch with regular controls and in hd would make it the definitive way to play. The problem is the $60 price tag. When metroid prime remastered, a game that clearly had way more effort put into its graphical update is only $40, there isn't any excuse for this game with the most bare bones hd upscaling to cost anything more than that. The same goes for luigis mansion 2 hd.

@@thelastdragon5551 I know it's very well liked but I guess since I grew up with the original SNES games I would've preferred seeing them remade or even DK64 which would be awesome to see them polish that one up and fix some things.

This is similar to Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. Great game but lazy remaster. I agree that this game should be 40 dollars at least.
Not excusing them at all, it should be cheaper -
but you kinda have to get that a lot of kids are getting into nintendo with the Switch generation and dont have the backlog we 40-50 year olds have. A lot of ppl my age stupidly sold or traded off their games also and while we are collectors, some ppl just arent and are not going to get a previous console to relive older games. When games are locked to one older system, y'all complain. When they release them for a new system, y'all complain. We dont need to buy it, but some 10 yr old who's just getting into games isnt gonna get his mom to go on ebay to get a 3ds and the original game. Gotta think of the next generation.

But that also prioritizes our spending habits on games we don’t need to play. ESPECIALLY if you’ve already played this one. Therefore, why even complain about the price? Because it’s not new to you? It’ll be new to others. The ONLY criticism I’ll take on this is if the game doesn’t run well. And for $60, that’s highway robbery.

I’m tired of all the remakes. I don’t buy any of them anymore. But as long as people keeping buying them, Nintendo will keep manufacturing them.
I'm not buying this. If this was remade to look as good as say Tropical Freeze with additional new content, I'd maybe consider it. But this looks like a sloppy port done with zero effort. All the missing graphical effects, the weird lighting and shadows, and given how sloppy it looks, I can't imagine it having stable performance. In a lot of ways, it looks worse than the Wii original. The only worthwhile additions are the fact this can be played without motion controls and it'll have the content from the 3DS version. But that doesn't justify the insane price.

Stop buying Nintendo
I honestly am sick of everywhere cheaping out. Like how everything has gotten so much more expensive, especially food, and I feel like we’re spending more for less because the price has gone up and the portion sizes have gotten smaller and smaller even though we’re paying more. That’s like this game, we’re paying more for less.
I won't be buying it either, but I understand why they're doing it. Nintendo is popular with kids, that's no secret, and a lot of the 7 year olds playing a Switch now weren't even alive in the Wii or even 3DS heyday. I am disappointed in Forever Entertainment's involvement though. They've spent years publishing some of the most low effort trash in the eShop, really some of the worst games I've played in my life. I have no idea how they managed to get on Nintendo's good side to work on one of their popular IPs like this.

Sure I wouldn’t mind having this in the collection, however, I’m not paying $60 for that. I could have argued that you can play it on the go, but as it was stated this is also on the 3DS so that argument is out the window. I’ll wait until I can get it used for a cheaper price if I really want to get this. We don’t even have Tropical Freeze on the Switch so that’s going to be bought first at some point. I believe DKC HD will not make the money that Nintendo believes it will make.

I disagree with both of you. I’ve tried this game on the 3DS. I just can’t get through it. Mainly because of the short 3DS stick. I just can’t play any platformers on that system. So I’ve looking forward to getting this. Yes, even at $60.
@@thelastdragon5551 I didn’t think of it that way. Granted I didn’t get too far on the 3DS version and it was on this system that I was able to play this game for the first time was the first time. I did get the Wii version within the past year, but I have yet to play it on that system. I’m sure the Wii might be better than the 3DS, but you are right about the controls difference between the Switch and the 3DS.
The one thing I do like about the Switch version is that it does include the 3DS levels. So that’s always a bonus. Oh and for the record I really don’t like paying more than $30 for a game because I go through games so quickly.
@@robert_roland63 Yeah, it’s always different strokes for different folks. I couldn’t play more than a minute without being frustrated with the game. I also skipped the GC, Wii and WiiU generations so I never gotten my chance. After playing Topical Freeze (Switch), I’ve been salivating for a new 2D DK game. This not being new but it’s definitely new to me and supposedly new to many still out there. So I can easily swallow the $60. Those that have played it, don’t buy it? Not sure why these videos are being made. Sorry VB20.
I’m going and buying a lot of Wii and 3ds games since I basically have all the games I want for my switch except for Mario and Luigi and prime 4, and found a copy of Donkey Kong country returns for the Wii complete in box for £8… I don’t know what that is in dollars but probably around 10-12
I'd rather have it that not have it but that price is too high.

I did not buy tropical freeze on the switch because it looks like a ROM and the funky Kong mode looks like a mod!!!

If they added more features other than graphics, then it might be worth it. Since I also have it on the Wii, no need for it. I guess it is for people who never played for the Wii or the 3DS.
There are many more old games from the GameCube, DS and Wii out there getting price-gouged, making it very hard for newer generations to get their hands on them, and yet they choose cheap games from recent consoles like Luigi’s Mansion 2 and DKCR for HD remasters with minimum effort put into them and overprice them. God dang it, Nintendo.
What games are being price gouge?
@@thelastdragon5551 Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn and Fates Special Edition (only way to buy Revelations now), Wario World, DK64, LoZ: Oracle of Ages & Seasons, pretty much every Pokémon game on DS and many more.
@@aidensmith5113 Pokemon games are decided by the Pokemon company. Not sure how much power N can will those games into existence. The rest, what makes you think they won’t come at some point? Unless it’s Mother 3. 😂

That’s right you shouldn’t buy a game that’s already on the Wii you don’t need to buy for the Switch does Nintendo give achievements answers no why play the same games over again you beat Xbox releases the same games back but with better graphics their in 4K another achievement set the same with PlayStation last of us is released again on PS4 then PS5 but when it comes to Nintendo its like your playing on the same console no achievements

@@thelastdragon5551 I doubt that Nintendo has been the most sold console every year I own every Nintendo console but as soon Xbox 360 got released it had achievements and PS3 gave trophies I stopped buying third party games for Nintendo and I don’t buy the same games twice for Nintendo unless there is a reason I see no reason for Nintendo the price is still full price I own the game I don’t see new achievements when capcom releases resident evil 5 6 again on Xbox one PS4 they costed $19.99 instead of $59.99 you don’t charge full price for old games
