I think the reason why we don't have a new donkey kong game is because retro studios is busy with metroid prime 4 right now and they want to get that out first.
And the new donkey Kong game will be locked behind a next gen video chip instead as a result. So I'll perhaps never get to play a new donkey Kong game for the foreseeable future.

@@user-py8oj5yv4m It looks like remaster for sure like Luigi's Mansion 2. Although, I feel it's a stretch to call Mansion 2 anything above a simple HD port bc it's a complete rip off for what it is. They are both remasters though.
First off The whole shading and lighting thing isn’t a problem,the game just got a trailer and it comes out in 7 months,secondly they might do something for the next direct cause November 21st is the 30th anniversary of the first country’s game so they might add a new Kong to the game or something,and lastly if your not happy for this remake your not a donkey Kong fan in the slightest

Nintendo sits on a gold mine of franchises that have so much potential yet they neglect them and don't do enough with them.
F-Zero
Star Fox
Mother/Eathbound
Kid Icarus
and now it seems like Donkey Kong is starting to join that list. I just wish Nintendo could realize they could be making so many great games if they'd see the greatness they have right in front of them.....
This just proves that Nintendo isn't really that far off from sharing the same notorious reputation PlayStation has.
It's mainly due to the fact that retro studios is too busy with prime 4 to make a new dk game. And with how good the retro studios made dk games are I wouldn't want to risk another dev team messing it up.

Miyamoto has no interest in making another Starfox unless he can come up with a new gameplay idea for it, this is why Zero was very gimmicky. So he might have runout of ideas.
Nintendo was requested Shigesato Itoi to not make any more Mother games. Itoi says he's done with the series.
Here are the good news
I recommend Gridd Retroenhanced, Astrodogs, Whisker Squadron: Survivor, and Project Nimbus: Complete Edition as Starfox successors.
I recommend Yooka-Laylee the Impossible Lair, and Kaze the Wild Masks, their based on DKC.
There's an indie game called Owlboy, it's pacifically based on the original Kid Icarus.
I recomend Victory Heat Rally for a good racing game.
For very important matters I'm hoping that they make a new Donkey Kong Country future game someday or soon since it's already been 2022, 2023, and now 2024, and up next 2025. More importantly the Kremling Krew need to return in the new future Donkey Kong Country game and the Kremling Krew are a core part of the Donkey Kong Country franchise.
The most disappointed part of the direct was we didn’t get a new Donkey Kong game but instead a another remake of donkey Kong country returns

Unless you count Star Fox 2 the first variant, Starfox never had a game that recycled assets more than once. What you mean Zero?
But I don't blame them for making this port, they've removed access to the 3DS library, so unless the next console adds those games to it's virtue console, this is and the likes of Luigi's mansion are your best bet for modern access
No one can say they aren't trying to preserve content. And let's be real, it makes a lot more sense to release things in the here and now. Generate buzz that you can have access to in the physical
I wouldn't want to play Starfox 64 3DS on the new console. Mainly because the VC version exists now on the switch. And really the only draw to that game is that you can play multiplayer using one cartridge
If I'm going to have to play the same game, I'd want it to be a title that explores more nuance. Augmented reality. Online co op that you can drop in any time. Parallel missions in MMORPG style. And so on. I don't need buzz around my classics. The original versions work just fine

You know, if you count the games on Switch Online, we're gonna have the entire DKC saga on the system with this. As for whether we'll ever get a new one, maybe on the Switch successor, since it seems new game production is slowly shifting to that.

I’m not going to lie. I think that the remake of Donkey Kong Country Returns should have not been announced at this past Nintendo Direct.

Well it's too late for that now Donkey Kong Country Returns made by it's original developer Retro Studios has already been announced as an HD remake and will be coming out in January 2025.
@@GodGamer-qi6xe I've heard theories about how the game isn't actually taking that long to make but that Nintendo is just delaying it to fill up gaps in their releases when they would would otherwise release next to nothing around those times. Those same rumours also claimed that the same happened to the Switch versions of Luigi's Mansion 2 and Metroid Prime (with the latter supposedly having been finished an entire year before being released). I don't know if that information is trustworthy, though.
I played donkey kong returns 3D and i really enjoyed that game. It was the first donkey kong country game I've ever played, so im honestly happy to see it coming back on the switch. Gives me less of a reason to return to my 3DS lol
I'm sticking with Nikoderiko: The Magical World for now, unless Nintendo decides to release a true DKC. In fact, Nikoderiko: The Magical World features villains heavily inspired by the Kremlings, boasts a greater number of animal buddies than the new DKC games from Retro Studios, offers more variety in bonus rooms, and even features David Wise on the soundtrack. It feels more like a DKC game than the actual new DKCs themselves.
I mean now I gotta go check *that* game out!
but I absolutley disagree about retros donkey kong games being less DKC than the original trilogy.
I feel some of the challenge rooms can be a bit expected in returns but past that- its a near perfect donkey kong.
I feel like the animal friends were a huge part of what made the original trilogy its own too, finding a swordfish or rhino always meant a secret was afoot.
Imo Rambi is simply the mainstay from that era and has been why I love him so much ❤
I feel like returns and tropical freeze will be remembered for the new grass walls and barrel rocket/ minecart/vehicle stages as well as the cell shades levels that were beautiful to play through.
I honestly cant be upset remembering my time with DCKR and ignored the 3ds port- Now I know there was BONUS CONTENT!?

Tbh I'm delighted we got a Returns port. It's something I wanted for a while. Besides, it's a good sign that Nintendo hasn't forgotten about DK. (As well as through Mario vs Donkey Kong.)

Sense the latest game is a remake or a port. The group has something big in store for Donkey Kong. We just don't know what it is. Just that it's taking longer to make than expected.
I gave the Direct an B instead of a A grade just for that announcement because I think that was in poor taste when you know people have been waiting for a long time for a new Donkey Kong game
I mean fair enough. But isn’t it good they give fans something instead of no games at all. Or like last year with the Mario VS game. It’s most likely a stop gap game till retro is done with Metroid prime 4 as well so that’s important to consider
I actually like that they're remastering this instead, since not only does that mean every DKC game is on Switch now, but it also means that the bonus content from the 3DS version can finally be enjoyed on the big screen.

In fact not just the snes games add the gamboy games the gbc port of dkc 1 and the gba remakes all in one collection that would get them sales for sure
I'm really excited for this but it also hit really hard. Me and my dad used to love playing this on the Wii so when I heard this I got excited thinking how I need to tell him about it, then I remembered he died in January 😭 what makes it worse is this comes out exactly 1 WEEK before the 1 year anniversary of his death. I'll have to play this extra hard for the 2 of us

I played DK country returns on the Wii U, so I already played it in HD. And the switch port honestly looks weirdly worse, like you said. And call me crazy, but I personally like it’s original controls with the Wii remotes, which was some of the challenge to the game

The several flaws in the graphics compared to earlier versions (they likely wont be fixed, despite the game being far from release):
I don't really understand all the complaints about this release. Sure, it was on the Wii and ported to the 3ds, but that was over a decade ago. On the Wii you were stuck with the motion controls which made it less enjoyable in my opinion. On the 3ds that was fixed, but the game looked very pixelated and was just hard to enjoy on such a small screen. I never finished it on either system for these reasons.
Now I'll be able to play it with normal controls on the much larger Switch screen or on my TV. I couldn't be happier about this coming out on the Switch.
I downloaded the 3ds version shortly after I finally got my first (and only) 3ds family system, a new 3ds XL. I was about halfway through dkc returns 3d, ocarina of time 3D, and a few other games when the B and X buttons started desensitizing and then stopped working entirely. DKC returns 3D is technically still playable with the A and Y buttons, but I can't go into cranky's shop anymore because I can't get back out without rebooting the game. I stopped playing just about anything on it that couldn't be played with touchscreen and circle pad controls until I could get it repaired, which I still need to do. My mom recently gave me her old wii, and I picked up a copy of the wii version for 20 bucks at a collectibles store. I'm happy to be able to play the game again without getting stuck in the shop or in a world without having to beat a boss, but I hate the motion controls with a passion. I bought the wii version literally a week before the switch version was announced, and I feel like I wasted my money. I'm getting the switch version just to not have to worry that I'll die because I waggled too much or not enough.

The problem isn't that we haven't gotten a new DK game since Tropical Freeze on the Wii U, the REAL problem: It's a HD port and we know that games with the word "HD" don't get the same treatment as games with the same title, like TTYD or Mario Vs. Donkey Kong.

Kid Icarus on 3ds is amazing… I had to pay a lot to add it to my 3ds collection years ago. The multiplayer was A1.

As someone who has played all of the DKC games but returns, I am very excited about this one, although I would 100% rather there be a brand new game, 2D or 3D.

Would it have been good to have had a new Donkey Kong Country game by now? yes. But let's be realistic here: Retro Studios has had their hands full reviving the Metroid Prime series, and that 3D project that Vicarious Visions was working on wasn't able to get off the ground. Who could have made a new one?!? Returns has been on everything since its creation. Like with Pikmin, it's tradition to have it again, and Jungle Beat may follow suit. As for visual errors, Forever Entertainment has six months to iron out most of the kinks.
The game also includes the new stages that were exclusive to the 3DS port so it's actually a mashup of the Wii original and the 3DS game! So for us that never played the 3DS version its actually pretty good deal! I'm hyped! And they probably saved a new DK for the Switch 2!
It’s another example of Nintendo just being lazy unfortunately. I had the same disappointment with the Mario Kart dlc on the Switch when graphically it was inferior to the original tracks. 😢
I feel like they only started working on a new DK game within the past few years, so this port is a quick way to buy more time

Honestly I think is fine/great that two games from the same series doesn't have the same art style and graphics when they're both on the same console, like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD or Luigi's Mansion 3 and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD.
Plus Donkey Kong Country Returns and Luigi's Mansion 2 are prequels to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Luigi's Mansion 3, so it makes sence to me that the quality and art style on these two games are not as better looking than their sequels, even if they are on the same console.
If you're asking me, I think people takes graphics, art styles and quality waaay to seriously when it comes to video games.

I legit got it on my 3DS and defeated the first boss days before they uploaded that video saying it was coming for the switch
I couldn’t be happier with this game if I wanted to be. Ever since we had all four Pikmin games on Switch, I wanted DKC Returns to be on Switch as well to have all the DKC games on one console. And I played the 3DS version, and ever since the Tropical Freeze port, I wanted a definitive version of the game that freed the extra levels from being stuck on a lesser version- I wanted the full game on a home console, and I’m finally getting it!
And even if some aspects aren’t as good, this is the first trailer, it could be fixed by the final release. But for what it is now, this game just looks better. The original game was dingy and just doesn’t look as good. Sure, little details like the lighting or shadows are off, but I can make out details in the game better, and I think this game looks way better than either version we had before.
Yeah, a new DK would have been more exciting, but it’s been since 2018 since DK got ANY release, so I’m just happy to have a stop gap title. This really gives me hope within the first year or so of the Switch that we’ll finally get that new DK game.
Also, not that people are wrong to feel this way, but why do this game and Luigi’s Mansion 2 get flak for looking worse than their immediate sequels when 3D World had like, NOBODY bat an eye over it looking like… leagues behind Odyssey? Like, yes, would it be nice if they looked better? Absolutely, but in the case of DKC Returns, it looks miles better than the original Returns in my humble opinion.

I’m just thrilled we got ANYTHING for DK in this direct. And I’ve personally been wanting DKCR on Switch for a while; I’ve only beaten the original Wii version once, so now I can play it through whenever I want. And I do strongly believe this is simply to tide us over until a brand-spanking new DK game on the next console, hopefully as a launch title. Then they can give us a remake of the OG DKC trilogy, I don’t know. I just want more Donkey Kong

DK Country Returns HD isn't a bad choice, but really could've been something else.
The former isn't getting remastered because Sakurai himself confirmed that it's not happening. The latter is never supposed to be in HD as the game is purely hand drawn.
