- Ok here’s a rather long look at the ultra gauge EM v1.4 plus that I’ve been using in my truck for about a year.

Basic details: ultra gauge is code reader, as well as digital gauge display. I use it for monitoring some simple parameters like. Instant MPGs, engine temp, battery voltage, rpms, avg mpg Ect.
I have no affiliation with ultra gauge and you can find them on their website or amazon.
Also take a look at “scan gauge” which has the ability to read transmission temps.
Thanks guys! - Auta a dopravní prostředky
For those who are curious about the colored film, make sure you get the color that once mixed with the bluish screen, becomes the color you wanted. For instance, my interior lighting is green so I had to use a yellow film that once mixed with the blue screen, gave me a green display. (I knew art school would pay off)
Where do you get the flim from?
That thing is awesome I will 100% be picking one of these up.

Thank you for your time and efforts in making these videos available to us.
Thank you!!
I purchased the UltraGauge MX 1.4 model for my 2002 Tacoma V6 4x4 DC and installed it for now in the same location as you did Micah. I now have gauges for my battery voltage, engine and transmission temperatures plus other gauges too. I saw the ScanGauge but did not like the size and the display. The UltraGauge is bright, easy to read during the day and night. I may get the Spiker Engineering mount for it.
heck yes! i got the ultra gauge for the same exact reasons. Now with the trans temp programmed in its perfection
@@OverlandUnderBudget Awesome 👏 especially with your new auto transmission.
What you really want a Scangauge/Ultragauge for in these non-manual transmission 1st gens is to display your automatic transmission temperature. A transmission cooler should be a high priority mod but a gauge helps too. Now for choosing a gauge. If you have a 1998 and earlier Tacoma/4Runner lookup Timmy the Toolman's ATF temperature gauge installation video. Those years can't pull the temperature reading on any OBD2 gauge. If you have a 1999+ you can read ATF temperature on an Ultraguage MX 1.4 with this following code. Unsure if the EM version in the video works with this code.
TData: 686AF101B40000
TCtl: 85
RCtl: 00
RPos: 2808
Mtch: 41B400
X: 0009
/: 0005
+: FFD8
Out Format: 00
Ave: 00
Left/Right: 31
A Scangauge II also reads your ATF temperature with the code below.
TXD: 68 6A F1 01 B4
RXF: 04 41 05 B4 00 00
RXD: 28 08
MTH: 00 09 00 05 FF D8
Thank you so much for adding the code! I think MX is the only one that pulls temps, I order the wrong one!
@@OverlandUnderBudget Y'all got it - the MX is the one that pulls the trans temp, and Andrew's spot on with the code. I have one on my 2001 4Runner and it works great...at increasing my anxiety on hot days. I have it on one of the Spiker pull handle mounts and, from the vantage point of my sitting position, it's doesn't block my line of sight outta the truck at all.
I just bought the EM for a 1998 4runner 5spd (manual transmission). Will this not work for other temps/ computer data?
@@happycameleatsgrass I want to use something I can monitor rear diff/ gear oil. Can i program the MX to do that?
@@powderrida As far as I know, there's no sensor in the diffs of our trucks that can provide that data, at least not from the factory, so you wouldn't be able to get that info from the MX or the EM. Since you'd have to add aftermarket sensors to get that data, I don't know of a way to make that display on the Ultragauge plugged into your OBD2 port since all the data the UG shows is from the truck's onboard factory sensors compiled through the ECU. I'm not saying it can't be done but tying new aftermarket sensors into the ECU and getting them to display properly on the UG is not something I've tried. If you want to do that, you'd definitely need the MX to drill down into the codes (or maybe you'll need another sensor entirely), but do your research first because this seems like it might be complicated, and you may find the EM fits your needs as it is - minus the diff temp reading of course.
Just bought one thanks !
Thanks so much ✌🏽
Ultragauge MX1.4 reads transmission temperature. We have one on our 1ST Gen Tacoma.
Awesome, I’m going to switch this one out for the MX
But the mx doesnt have performance and other features that the EMS does. Your giving that up just to read trans temp mostly because it probably doesnt support other manufacturer guages. If you want to check trans you can get a separate gauge guage like I will.
@UCZqIf6ybJjl-8S6AZWNKPdw Get a gauge for the trans temp if you want to see the temp, that's what I will do later on. I also have the ems ultra guage. I really like it. I also want to add boost/vacuum, fuel pressure, oil pressure, and air fuel ratio guages aside from the ultra guage monitors to my ride as I go. That way I know what's going on with everything.
Ironically I was just looking at purchasing a scan gauge....
All the while watching this all I can think is; But you can have all that and more in your new radio!
Haha true! But I really like how this is constantly on without having to connect or view it on my screen while I’m driving. I
@@OverlandUnderBudget Yeah, that is convenient :)
I mounted my with a mount from Spiker engineering. Got it to display the auto trans temp.
So you purchased the MX version to get that right?
@@greeneking77 You must buy the MX version to display auto trans temp.
Did that show wide air fuel? Looking for an AFR capable gauge for my SC tacoma
Very helpful.
what does your engine temp usually run during the heat of the day?
The Ultragauge MX does show trans temp
I have installed a 36-gallon tank in my diesel Colorado. Of course, my truck doesn't "know" this. Can I use this gauge to display miles to empty? In other words, can I enter a different tank size and will it remember this tank size so I can continually display miles to empty (which is around 1,000!). THANKS!
I have issues with my gas gauge in my FJ Cruiser. I was told that this device can help. How would it work and know my gas level? Do you have to input the gallons you put in the tank and then it calculates it for you as you drive and you reset it every fill up? Thanks!
Yep that’s the bummer as a gas gauge. You need to reset it every time and calibrate it too in the beginning.
I have a 4runner 4x4 1998 5vz v6 automatic which model should I buy the MX or the EM
Hello friend, I can't find that model. I'm from Venezuela. What model do you recommend that I can get on Amazon?
Just curious why you didn't go with the Bluetooth option with the ultra guage and add it to your indash radio?
pretty sure the bluetooth only goes to your phone
Will this thing tell you how many gallons of fuel you used for a given trip the track expenses
*Any car with an ODBII port.
I don't think I'll be putting one of these on my 95 Suburban...I can do without the depression. OTOH, it does have a 40-gallon tank so I can at least travel pretty far before needing a fill-up.
haha yep 40 gallons is amazing!
welp this aged well
Cool! Is there one that works for a OBD1? I have a 93 Nissan.
It might work with an obd1-obd2 adapter cable. Iv never tried it but might work
Anybody have a link where I can snag one of these
ebay or amazon search ultra gauge 1.4 mx
Do you have abs?
My GX470 has a display that tells me my current and average MPG. I cry whenever I look at it 😭 LOL
How bad is it 😂
@@187chonapretty much 12mpg.....
Oh much bad haha but V8 power!!
Damm my 4.7 tundra gets 13-14 🤢 I was in the market for a gx bur idk now
@@187chona it does have 33's, which hurts the mpg. I can live with it. But it would be nice to have a bigger tank!
Do they have anything like this for obdI
That’s a good question and I don’t know the answer
You just could install Troque Lite app on your dash and connect to cheap obd2 via bluetooth
Yes true! I’ve used those before and they work really well. But I like having a dedicated gauge like this.
Not ur fault but you should clarify and put for any OBD 2 car in the title
Have you ever heard of an Autocomp 8000 and do you know how it works?
