    The ScanGaugeIII simply plugs in to any vehicle's OBD2 port (1996 and onwards). It has 4 major functions:
    1. Monitor - Displays live vehicle/engine data
    2. Measure - Customise audio and visual alarms
    3. Track - Built-in trip computers, displays trip data
    4. Diagnose - Retrieve DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), reset Engine MIL
    Major features include: Colour touch display, free wireless update, automatic X-Gauge configuration, wired OBD2 connector (more reliable than bluetooth or wi-fi).
    Engine Gauge Data include (depending on make/model):
    Battery voltage, engine coolant temperature, transmission temperature, exhaust gas temperature, throttle position, engine load, turbo boost pressure, DPD/DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) regen status and much more.

    I was really hoping the Scangauge 3 would support external sensors, even if it required an secondary module.
    Things I'd like to put on the car like an EGT sensor it would be nice to not have to spare more space in the dash for another dial.

    Hello.
    Thank you for the review you have provided of the Scanguage 3 product. I found it to be the best guide to the features, functions and operation of the reader that I have found. I have purchased the unit for use in my MU-X.
    I am finding that I have not gotten a very good idea of how to route the cable from the OBD port to the bottom right of the windscreen (where you have it mounted). Is it possible for you to explain how you have routed the cable for the reader in your MU-X. I would be grateful for any guidance you can provide.

    In the settings I see you can set up a round circle type guage , can this represent boost pressure like an analogue boost guage and if so can you do a video on how to change what the circle guage does .. thanks heap

    It has a fat network cable. A network coupler and any Cat 5e or greater network cable will also work with it.

    quick heads up. I have the Scanguage 2 and the window mount. Inside the windscreen mount there is 3 magnets held down by glue. This glue heats up and gets brittle in the heat and the windscreen mounts magnets basically pull out really easily. I had it replaced a while ago by scanguage and the 2nd unit has done exactly the same thing. I mentioned this to scanguage at the time of the first problem so Im not sure if they've made changed to the glue since. (8 months ago or so)

      That's exactly what the bloke said when I asked about heat when I purchased mine, I said my ute is parked in the Aussie sun 24/7 (QLD) he mentioned exactly the issue you have mentioned. Only way around it he said was when first unboxing glue the magnets down don't just rely on the adhesive. Ive only had mind for 2 days hence why I'm watching a few videos on the Scanguage 3. Time will tell

      @@Reflect744 I think there should be a gimble style mount instead of the magnets which are prone to heat related failure. Another way would be to mount it out of direct sunlight which is never easy.

      @@downthetrackaustralia Good point being on the windscreen it's kinda hard to avoid sun. I haven't looked into it but thought maybe some sort of "Quad-lock" mount not sure what styles they offer or if it's possible but would definitely resolve relying on some magnets that aren't that strong anyway. Not sure how the magnets would hold up off road I'm yet to find out....

      I've had something similar with a dashcam unit which is quite heavy, so I have found that using "Gorilla Grip Double sided tape (about $6 from Bunnings) is really good, I've had it in 45 deg temps for several weeks in the outback, and absolutely no dramas.

    @NJS Instructional Thanks for the video. On ScanGauge3 can you choose to have fewer tiles per screen than 9. I would like oil pressure, water temp and trans. temp only on 1'st screen. thank you

    looking to monitor oil pressure, front/rear differential temps, and what the differences are for AT temps 1 and 2. needless to say, just received Scanguage 3 yesterday for 4Runner 5th gen.

    Thanks for a very good video. I see they now have EGT for the new Isuzu, do you have auto transmission oil temp? I have a new model DMax and have held off because the ScanGauge II did not have either EGT or gearbox temp. Most of the other things like trip, average speed etc, you already have on your new MUX. very disappointing ScanGauge, they have had plenty of time to resolve the Isuzu issues that they have supposedly been working on since August 2020.

      Cheers. Overall the product is excellent and I have observed there are a number of more gauges in this version than there were in the previous (for e.g. EGR temp, Regen Status etc.). EGT works well and was also present on the MKII version. Another plus for the Isuzu is you can observe the Boost Gauge (on the 2017-2020 MU-X/D-Max it wasn't available). Yes, it would be helpful to have the ATF temp also, especially for towing. However, I wouldn't let one gauge (which will hopefully come), diminish an otherwise great product.

    Nice video, thanks for the review. I can't see it listed on their description as to whether it reads engine oil pressure. Does anybody know if it does? I feel like that would be one of the first things you would want to monitor...

      Oil Pressure can be read provided the manufacturer of the vehicle permits it to be read via CAN Bus / OBD2. In my experience, not many manufacturers release this information. It seems to be more of an industrial engine parameter...

      @@NJSInstructional Turns out in Australia our vehicles tend to have an oil pressure switch that opens at a minimum pressure, rather than an oil pressure sender. So I don't think our ECUs get a distinct oil pressure value anyway.

    Hi @NJSInstructional, I just recently bought the Scanguage3 for my Isuzu MUX 2018. I have updated to the latest firmware. But I cannot see Regen Status/ Type. Any xguage code for mux for that? Cheers

      Thank you! Be sure to check out the ScanGauge website for any X-Gauge commands. I'm not aware of the regen status for the 2018 Isuzu MU-X via the ScanGauge. However, there is a DPD display on your car's MID which will show you the DPD level and also the regen status. Check out this video: czcams.com/video/103tvMW5EOM/video.html

    I have the Ultraguage to monitor transmission and torque converter temps along with seeing if the TC is locked or unlocked. Can the scan gauge 3 show that information also?

      I'm planning on releasing a video in March which shows how to update the Firmware and program X-Gauge commands on the ScanGauge3. Depending on make, it may be possible. On my vehicle, I now have ATF temperature gauge... Stay tuned!

    When turning the engine off does the unit turn off automatically. Also is there a list of vehicles the unit is compatible with

      It should turn off when ignition is off. It may also turn on initially when you connect it to your vehicle but then should turn off if the ignition is off.

    Thanks for the bideo. Can I perform a forced regen with the scangauge 3? I have travelled over 3,500 k's since I bought it and I haven't yet seen a dpf burn. Is this normal? I'm slowly working through how to use it. Thanks for any advice.

      Not a problem, I believe this depends on the make and model of vehicle and whether the manufacturer permits this function.

      You generally won't see a regen as it does it as you drive. Don't worry about it unless you see a warning on the dashboard. Don't force regen.

For instance, on the Scangauge I can see the spot load has gone from 0.009 to 0.029 over a couple of weeks so just wondering what level triggers a burn. Also, while I wouldn’t normally force a regen, I can understand that there may be circumstances that it is becomes necessary.

      @@richardmalone3172 Your car will do a passive regen as you drive. Provided that it has enough fuel and is operating at normal temperatures and revs. On my scanguage I display egr and can generally see it when it increases in egr temps. Might not be the same on all cars though. The worst thing for dpf is short trips where the engine doesn't get above temperate and revs for it to passively regen. All it takes to resolve that is to take it for a reasonable drive along the freeway at over 70 or 80kph when the engine is at operating temps. Depending on the car the passive regen will occur at different soot loads. Usually 30 or more percent. It's not something you need to worry about. It's all computer controlled. If you did need to do a manual dpf regen I'd only recommend your dealer to do it with their proper plug in tool as it can take a couple of hours to complete. If you are low on fuel or your fuel light comes on it generally won't perform a passive regen. Just drive it on a reasonable trip up the freeway and it will be fine.

      Check out the ScanGauge AUS website. ScanGauge are continually updating the firmware and adding additional gauges. It looks like Gear Position is available on some model Prado's.

    I think i'll stick to my SG2, the 3 is too bulky and can attract thieves. The gauges screens is also too busy.

      You can always unpack and hide it when not in use, but yes, the SG2 is more compact.

    I bought scangauge 3 after watching. If you go to quick start guide, Your first fill-up Step 1 and follow it, there is an issue. Where it says at 3) On your first fill up, do not make any adjustments to the indicated fuel. Simply press Save. Then go to 4) Next press the Fuel Cost Tab. Enter the cost per litre and press Save.
    Well if you press Save at step 3) it goes to a different screen and you can't follow their instructions.

    This gauge cannot pick up most of the most important sensors on the Ford Ranger, the most popular car on the road. The process for entering the code is not given anywhere or where to get codes
