0:00 Intro
0:04 The linkage wasn't sitting inside the door card either it had disappeared somehow
0:13 Ouch engine replacement time
0:20 Not going to be doing much window cleaning with that
0:40 At least it was a fast and easy diagnosis/fix and I bet the owners felt stupid when they were told
1:04 Customer States "what's wrong with my steering?"
1:14 Wonder what they hit to cause this
1:24 2016 Grand Caravan leaks water through the front screen when activating the rear washer
1:28 Not ideal at all as that oil can catch on fire if the temperature gets hot enough
1:44 Either someone doesn't like this driver or they love driving through construction sites
1:59 Must be some new Nissan quick release arms
2:09 This still happens far to often tell your friends not to drive fast through big puddles
2:15 A moment of silence for this tool
2:27 Any other mechanics have a nice souvenir collection of parts like this also
2:40 This is why mechanics hate steering wheel covers as they can be quite dangerous
2:46 Would've saved themselves money and time had they just listened the first time
2:54 Pretty unfortunate as the engine only had 48,000 miles hopefully it's covered under some warranty
3:15 At least its an easy fix still annoying to see though
3:32 I have no idea what this could be so if you do let us know what's causing this sound below
3:46 Really unfortunate for this customer especially after spending so much on it

A Subaru blew up? I can't believe it.
😂😂😂😂😂
@@CodyjrtYea 😂😢
the only manufacturer that may as well have head gaskets as a maintenance item lol
@@Codyjrt it's funny bc one of their ads said "everything has a crack in it for a reason" and then said "that's what makes Subaru, a Subaru" towards the end and I was like yep exactly 😂
@@Codyjrtunderrated comment🤣😂
I like how you can see the mechanic bought the knock-off Milwaukee batteries that have been demonstrated to be dangerous and absolutely are not worth buying
That battery is from milwaukee. They are red where is says high output in the rest of the world. They are only white/grey there in the us
3:43 Didn’t know Audis had a Van Halen setting. 😂
1:05 "What's wrong with my steering?"
The steering wheel is on the wrong side. Next customer please.
"Your steering has expired"
@@dave161141 No, no...your steering *subscription* has expired
I have a Milwaukee impact I used as a semi mechanic for a few years and it still works perfectly. The secret is if it doesn't come loose relatively quickly get out the air tools instead. They will take much more abuse than the battery tools and if you have a decent one it can usually be rebuilt for a fraction of the cost. If you have a cheap one just get another one.
Also, tip 2: don't buy the shit batteries like he did.
On a vehicle that sounds like a rod-knock, always rule out a CAT converter where the inside of the CAT has broken off in chunks.
Even the YT'er FordTechMakuloco admitted being fooled by one and ended up the truck only needed a new CAT converter.
It's a subaru, 100 percent rod knock 😂
The stuff that is 'fixed' that is incredibly easy to fix (or don't need fixing at all, like the steering wheel cover that made the wheel feel 'loose') should come with a 'Stupid Tax'
They usually do. If they diagnose your issue in 4 minutes, and it’s something stupid and obvious. If their day was bad, they wouldn’t feel bad making $80-$100 diagnostic fee
I mean they do charge for their time.
Do you ever wonder how many mechanics filming these kinds of vids ended up being wrong?
Only your father.
None
After unfortunately having worked in shops id say over half of them.
3:32 Van Halen doesn’t *normally* play opening when you start your Audi? Damn, company went downhill.
Yup, ever since the dropped their pencil.
@@northshepherd8010 Well give me something to write on, man!
It would be good to have some narration about what we are looking at. For those of us who are not mechanics it is sometimes hard to understand what is being shown. Thanks.
Some the mechanics filming don’t explain what the issue is. Sometimes I don’t understand what I’m looking at
Are you referring to 1:15 or something else?
@@3212009a yes
Video description explains most of it.
turn on subtitles/caption. Tells all
Buick/chevy enclave also drained their oil right onto the cat. A coworker years ago had a fire because of it. After that we let them sit for awhile if they were hot
3:35 That engine (EA113 2.0T FSI) has variable indiction flaps in the intake ports and it sounds like one or more of them has gone haywire.
High pressure mechanical fuel pump from the early 2000s vw direct injected their cars
@@mathewrios6043 Thats not quite how the hpfp on those sound, good guess tho. Source: I have one
Leaking oil directly on the exhaust manifold is a feature to let you know by a burning smell
If it doesn't smell, you're low on oil
2:23 Think of it this way. Now you have a cool fog machine to introduce your new snap on impact.
Customer states "what's wrong with my steering" - idiot the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car 🤣🤣🤣
That cordless impact wrench is powered by smoke, once the smoke comes out, it looses power.
"looses". Right...
@@Slicerwizard I don't know why everyone gets that wrong. It's simple, Lose as in Lost (one "o"), loose as in goose (two "o"s). It isn't rocket science...
You realize that not everyone has english as their primary language, right?
Anyone else think of Monty Python and the Holy Grail with the coconut gallop at 3:32?
3:33 no question there: the horses got activated, waiting to take off 😅
Subaru owners, just full send when you hear the rod knock..... make it entertaining
1:00 It's not a defective vehicle, it's a defective person.
Yeah, you gotta be gentle with that homeowner Milwaukee crap😅😂
UncRod's video is so sad. 40kmi, maintained regularly, they pulled over immediately and had it towed in, for it to be a rod? They did everything right and still got effed over
Reckon someone did something wrong somewhere!
Something doesn't add up there.
Probably did a few doughnuts and then starved cylinder #4 of oil. Common issue with boxer engine with factory oil pump. I read about it on forums and such. Just like mentioned above, something doesnt add up.
Honestly, that is pretty suspect. Still, the anxiety this creates is one reason I’m dumping my WRX. Just can’t feel like I can trust the motor, even when carefully maintained.
I want everyone here to look at the drive shaft damper. It ain't moving. Don't know how the engine can run and that stays still.
That clicking from the Audi is the Throttle body
If only they would record in landscape instead of portrait. Then it would be full screen instead of that narrow slit we have to look through...
I think that's due to tik tok/YT Shorts/Facebook and Instagram reels and their display format being portrait mode. We can tell who filmed short form content for those platforms due to them being in portrait instead of landscape.
@@PinkAgaricus That is true too, however, too many still shoot in portrait when filming on their phones.
You can aim in portrait while looking somewhere besides the phone. It's harder to do in landscape because where the cameras are
In rod we trust!
I’m not a car guy yet I watch compilations of this stuff. I just wanna laugh some of this stuff is so stupid it still gets me to laugh.
Subarus are everywhere in this 😂 rod knock - its what makes a subaru a subaru
The Subaru that you guys showed that was rod knock. I just had to replace my motor because my Turbo blew up. Then blew up my intercooler and took out my motor.
Customer states: It's Only Been A Year Since Repairs Were Declined The Last Time

it seems that some of them come in for the most obvious things that you wonder how in the heck they ever missed!
used to repair milwaukees under warranty.
probably could send that in and get it fixed
Rod knock knock knocking on heavens door 😂
2:26 it just needs a blue smoke recharge with some sealant to keep it from leaking out.
2:20 Why'd you have to let out all the electrical smoke. Don't you know what it runs off of?
Made by Lucas
"Ooh, banana!" 😂😂😂
These guys obviously don’t have enough work because I’m get too busy to watch or take these kind of videos I spend my time actually fixing
At 3:17 -- in the 1980s, Canadian cars had high and low beams in the opposite position (inboard / outboard) from US cars (for cars with four separate headlight bulbs / lenses). Was that car a Canadian car? Does Canada still mandate this for their vehicles?
Who tf buys a impact wrench called "fuel" lmfao
Have you personally done any statistics on fuel products?
I have the smaller 1/4" Milwaukee version for home use, it is quite nice! I have Japanese made Makitas in the 1/2" & 3/4" size. Milwaukee Fuels are decent tools, I'm sure this guy was beating the hell out of it to do something like that. It looks like a situation where he might have been better off with a 1/2" drive instead of a 3/8" for example.
@@JamesFlynn-np7sq or do what my Dewalt drill did a couple of years ago, let the oil out of the gearbox and failed after that, trying to break a lug nut on my car one day. No, it was not brushless, bought new as a kit with the drill, charger etc from Lowes in 2016, so likely it was the 1/4" variant. Need to get I think the next size up.
So, the engine with rod knock with only 48,000 miles - it didn't have a serpentine belt. Was that part of the diagnostic procedure to remove it?
@NiobeBaptist Well if you remove to drive belt, and the noise is still a thing. Then it's not a drive belt issue like a bad water pump or power steering issue, right?
@@ducewagsyeah, but if you notice the balancer isn't rotating. It's not running, at all. That's a BS video.
@@brandonroeder2461 Are you talking about the black pully with 3 bolts on the bottom?
@@ducewags no, I actually take back what I said, I just didn't feel like digging through comments again. The video shows the damper for a second or so and I thought it wasn't moving, but it's hard to tell so I'm just gonna assume I'm wrong on this one.
1:44, I am a scrapper and scrapyards are notorious for this.
What was going on in the last clip?
Only 40k even well maintained and still filed
2:15 I can see the problem here. They let the smoke out. No wonder it died. 💨
That blue subaru engine was missing a serpentine belt. If the water pump is run through the belt, the car most likely overheated hence the knock.
Removing the belt during the diagnosis is how you make sure it's not one of the belt driven accessories making the noise.
From my experience having owned a Subaru, the water pump is ran by the timing belt. I had an EJ25 engine. Unfortunately, the previous owner was an idiot, and they siliconed two water pump bolts in place that were broken, and they leaked. That rusted out two more bolts and when I tried to use easy outs, they kept breaking off. When I tried to drill the bottom bolt for an easy out, it walked sideways and drilled into the block. So I sent the car to the junkyard. That's why you never silicone a bolt into a water pump. It makes things go sideways.
that one is chain driven justincooper5189, u can actually see the water pump pulley towards the bottom of it
They were troubleshooting without it. It wouldn't have been left on for very long without a fuel pump.
this is a fb and it driven by the serptine belt .
2:20 letting the smoke out is a bad thing …………. Especially that much 🤦♂️
Are subaru s (impreza wrx sti blobeye or hawkeye) that often engine killer?
You might as well have head gaskets on ready when they eventually blow 😂
@@Bigdikus so thx for the good answer.. this qualified Information teaches me, that i should buy a r34 but they propably will tirepop me to death or some sht like this..
That drill didn't even look that used. I Call abuse.
Customer drove through a puddle causing a huge chip in the engine block?
What tha heck?
Thanks for reminding me why I never actually entertained a 2023 wrx... LOL...
My guess is, being a turbo, they are often bought by young testosterone fueled boys with a bit too much immaturity and are driven hard, and put away wet with little to no maintenance and it's a wonder the motors stay together. Unless, you happen to be one who drives a WRX but do so gently and sane most of the time, and keep up on the maintenance and they can be much better. My best friend's son drives an 06 Impreza WRX wagon and it's been quite reliable for the 3 or so years he's had it so far.
2:55 bullshit, he revved it to the moon
That Audi is just listening to the horsepower at work...
3:10 where is the belt?😂
My exact thoughts
Dang - counted 6 WRX/STi in this episode! 😭
0:14 No, that's not "Rod Knock" it sounds more like Jeff Knock to me.
Can oil catch fire when it's leaking in the exhaust?
yep
This headlights were installed correctly, but those Chinese headlights were the culprit. I’ve seen this twice where I had to rewire the headlight connectors
Watching these gives me anxiety
1:14 I don't get it ? why did someone install a wheel on the passenger side ? of course it won't work, its a fake prop
?? huh?
My thought was it's from Brittan, or Japan as they are two of several countries that drive on the "wrong" side of the road, whereas most everyone else drives on the "correct" side.
That Subaru at 2:55 didnt even have a belt on the front of the engine. Im pretty sure it threw the belt and went out of timing. Probably wasnt rod knock at first, but all the valves and pistons met one another.
That ribbed belt is not a timing belt - even on a Sube the timing belt has teeth, not ribs, and is under covers. The ribbed ('serpentine') belt drives the engine accessories - alternator, water pump, power steering, a/c
@@brianspencer6397 Yeah I realized that after I typed it up, The timing should be under the cover just below the pulleys I was seeing.
With the Steering Wheel issue - it's on the wrong side..
I still don’t understand why we still have two options…
I'm so high right now.
How prevalent *IS* rod-knock? I’ve only heard about it or seen it in videos - I’ve never actually *heard* it knowingly.
Note: I’ve only owned three vehicles where this could happen in my entire life, and have been without sufficient funds to own/operate one in the last twenty years.
It is not likely to happen if you keep the oil changed and topped off, as well as not abusing tge vehicle with high RPM driving, etc. Some vehicles have design flaws and are not as reliable this way, most will make it well beyond a quarter million miles without major engine troubles if basic maintenance is done & checked regularly.
it's very very noticeable and loud
Rod knock is pretty uncommon if you change your oil on time and check your oil level often.
Rod knock happens when an engine is starved of oil and the rod bearings get spun causing piston rods to move around more than they should.
Kia GDI engines, Subarus with the EJ25 Turbo/FA20 Turbo engines, and the BMW M3 with the S65 engine are examples of cars that are known to get rod knock.
Why t hff e narrow view screen?
That audi kinda sounded like fuel injectors priming? Maybe? Idk
3:32 throtlebody self test(defective sound)
3:38 Its probably the throttle body
smart
2:16 hope he got the extended warranty
That tool is just having a smoke break b4 getting back to business
F in chat for the impact driver.
Some of these drivers should have been hearing Noah’s ark while driving.
Schedule your maintenance people.
A ton of subarus on todays video huh? Take note of which cars not to purchase people😂
1:08 pitman's arm is probably snapped.
Air impact wrenches is not as convenient as battery ones but it's super reliable... Ive been using mine for well over 10 years and lube it at least twice a week, more when used more.
No steering, no problem.
2:19 😢🤫❤️
audi noise the a flap in the intake manifold controlled by a fauly sensor/motor.
Do the recording in landscape, then i might subscribe.
Rod knock, rebuild engine lol. OR you can replace rod bearings. Done that many times.
Yeah if you don't value your time
If it was something sentimental, old or rare then yeah absolutely rebuild - but when it's relatively new/still produced then there's not much reason to rebuild over replace. Especially with Subaru's warranties and customer service
It’s totally subjective.
2:28 that’s the ga-est mechanic I’ve ever seen……
My steering feels loose. I have a hard time believing some of these things.
Nothing worse than the person who buys a USED 50K mile Maserati Ghibli for $30K.......and cannot afford to actual upkeep that kind of car !!!!!!!!!! LOL
not rod knock. belt tensioner.
That's not an issue, it's a feature
As someone who works in a dealership who is unfortunate enough to deal with CFMoto...yes, these are the caliber of people that purchase those turdbuckets the world over... "bUT It hAS a 5 YeAr wARraNtY!~" Man...that thing isn't worth the paper its written on. Junk. Pure, unadulterated -junk-. I'd take an Arctic-Cat over a CF-Moto any day, and that's saying something!
someone let the oil run dry on that subaru
Why sooooooo many Subbies 😢😢
Man what happened to chevrolet cars reliability?
Really gone down the drain.
Many grenaded motors today, yikes.
wait till they get the bill.....and they thought they had problems.
It's not or-di it's ow-di.
1:04 maybe the fact the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car
Can't be that because it's on the right side of the car!
Subaru Japan's Ford
3:32 Audi...... Ze Germans are probably very angry right now. It is not pronounced "Aw-di" It is pronounced "Ow-Di". It is pronounced this way because that is the sound you make receiving the bill on what you thought was a routine service.
I bet there are Audi parts that cost an extra few hundred over the same exact part if it had a VW part number.
Depends where you live I guess.
Commenting based off the title. Unless that car wasn’t brought in for any service in a years time, you should be inspecting the brakes on every single car u bring in. It’s easy money and if ur checking it green on ur MPI and they crash with metal to metal that’s ur ass.
Customer declined a year ago, so now they get the full monty of pads, rotors and calipers, plus of course new studs.
