Another season comes to an end, and as always that means another Messi season review. For the team it has been a terrible season, no doubt. Only winning a cup trophy against newcomers Alaves while losing out on La Liga and getting knocked out in the quarters of the CL is simply not good enough for a club like this. We have gotten humiliated by Man City, PSG and Juventus all in this season and the overall play has been at a low point compared to previous years. One of very few lights in the dark has been Messi though. Often playing as an attacking midfielder he has managed to score 54 goals this season, 37 in the league, which wins him the Pichichi as well as the European golden shoe. He has been consistently brilliant, and the only seasons I'd rate above this one from an individual perspective, is 10/11, 14/15 and 11/12. The fact that Messi has been this insanely good and yet the team still didn't manage to win any of the two relevant trophies just shows how poor the team has been put together, especially compared to Real Madrid. Hopefully Leo asks for a competitive team just like he did in the summer of 2014, and we go back to winning ways again.

Henrik Lehmann I think this season wasn't good for Messi his dribbling, playmaking, speed ( acelleration) were very poor and i agree the team was terrible but i have faith for the next season. Visca el Barça, Messi forever. Sorry my English, my first language is Portuguese. Nice video.

Henrik Lehmann to be honest, I'd rate this above 14/15, just the Bayern first leg gets 14/15 on the same level, but from goals, dribbling and passing I'd really think this was better

Well overall, I feel he lacked a bit in the 12/13 season. This season and the 14/15 season were his absolute best imo. Individually, this might be the best season of his career.
His goal collection this year is better than most WC players' careers. One of his most underrated years in a Barca shirt.
It just sucks that people fail to separate individual greatness from team brilliance. This was without a doubt one of his best seasons in recent years individually, especially considering Barca's struggle!
True,once football fans start understanding that individual performance matters much more than collective gathering,they will understand the true greatness of players.
Sure,team playing is very important and helping your team in important moments,but what matters for awards like the ballon dor is how good YOU are ,not your team

Ryan Baron86 barca as a whole wasn’t good that season, nor are they good rn, but Messi’s individual performances were incredible. Name me how many players you’ll see scoring 54 goals in 56 games at age 30+ while basically playing as a midfielder. I’ll agree that he only won a smal trophy, but whether someone wins a trophy or not is based on their team’s performance, not just individual performances. So with that being said, this was an incredible season from Messi individually regarding his circumstances, and I don’t think anyone could argue with that tbh.

How about his brace against prime back to back ucl winning Madrid at the bernabeu with a last minute game winner which made all Madrid fans including players cry and dropped one of the greatest individual performances ever. He didn’t only score a brace and disappeared… but it’s also the way he bossed the game. Marcelo made him bleed, casemiro kept fouling him, and Ramos got sent off because of this genius. And how about his banger against Atletico Madrid that season? And Man City isn’t a small club tbh… this genius got 5 g/a against city in 2 matches and won a penalty which he gave to neymar. Also against juve he created a ton of chances for example the one for iniesta and the 2 he gave Suarez 1v1 with Buffon. By far the greatest player this season and ever.

A brilliant individual season for Messi. He was dribbling enthusiastically like the Messi from the Guardiola days of 2011. It's a shame Barcelona played so poorly defensively.

This has been one of Messi's best season in his career. In my opinion I would say this is his 3rd or 4th best season in terms of individual performances. 54 goals and 17 assists is astonishing. Not only has he sored a lot of goals but the quality of the is truly Messi class. He scored a lot of amazing goals , Long range goals, Solo goals, Free kicks and others. His Dribbling this season/year has been at his best dribbling since 14/15 season and his passing is unbelievable . He was truly at his best. Besides all of the great things about Messi. Barcelona have had a really bad season. Losing the league, getting out in the quarter finals again and losing and drawing a lot of games isn't very good. For this reason I feel that Barcelona's performances are making Messi look bad. Messi has worked so hard this season carrying both Argentina and Barcelona alone. How many times has Messi saved Barcelona and Argentina from losing. He has been saving them from defeats and at the end of the season they end up with Copa del Rey. And now Ronaldo is favourite to wining the ballon d'or because of his teams performances this season for winning Champions league and having just 2 good months. Messi's hard work didn't lead to any great success Instead it was kind of wasted because of his team. I have a feeling Barcelona will come back stronger next season and win the treble and Messi will come back even stronger after Barcelona awful season. Great Review once again man. I knew it would be good.

I come to this video in 2023 and I see players like salah and neymar who are currently 30 years old and who simply cannot get the momentum that messi still had in his 30s, only when compared to other players do we get the real dimension of what we saw.

Honestly my favorite Messi season… he was exceptional this season. Had so many special moments this season. The brace and last minute goal destroying prime Madrid at the Bernabeu to keep the league title hopes alive. The big chances he created against juve in the quarters were unbelievable… put iniesta and Suarez twice thru goal 1v1 with Buffon he should’ve had 3 assists against juve. Can’t believe iniesta and Suarez missed they are high caliber players and are always expected to take those type of chances. Another amazing performance was his hattrick vs man city at home in group stage. Dropped 3 goals and 1 assist and caused 1 penalty ( could’ve had 4 goals and 1 assist). 11 UCL goals and 2 assists 13 ucl g/a in 9 matches. Amazing banger goal against atletico Madrid. Man… messis best seasons in my opinion were 2010/11, 2014/15, 2016/17, and 2018/19… in terms of playing beautifully and not only based off of goals and even then, in these seasons he scored a ton of goals in big games and overall. 🐐
@@miguelnunez5729 well fact is he didnt do much against psg and juve. yeah had key passes but he scored so many in the league and wasnt decisive in UCL in terms of scoring. disappointing as ney stepped up and was our best attacking player in UCL KO that season.

Brilliant work like every other season review and I'm probably gonna rewatch that multiple times like I did with the other season reviews :D I think everything has been said about his season and the Ballon d'Or/POY election. I'm also quite sure that we'll see 1-2 motm performances of Messi in the SuperCopa even though that won't change the outcome of the election. The next season is possibly the one I can estimate the least but as always I'm optimistic :) I don't even know if we need new players, Vidal was playing great before he got injured and Sergi Palencia seems to be a promising talent, players like Paco, Denis or André Gomes can be good backups and an Iniesta with less injuries can still be the best midfielder of the world.
What I do know is that the season will be extremely important for Leo because of the WC 2018. He could keep his standing as a tragic hero or rewrite history.

I really miss this Messi 16/17, he was simply extraordinary this season, his dribbling was level God, scored a lot of wonderful solo goals and his playmaking ability was amazing. Unfortunately the Barcelona team was shit this season, everything was horrible, defense, midfield, and even the attack, Suárez and Neymar lost a lot of chances. Messi carried Barcelona on his back this season, if he had won the UCL and la liga that would be his best season ever
Honestly, this was messis best individual season. The only match I believe he played below average was the second and first leg against psg in ro16 even then, he scored a goal, and got Suarez a penalty which neymar converted. He was amazing against Real Madrid and juve. Not to mention against city. This season his performances were better than his 14/15 season tbh. 14/15 season was great as well… he contributed to a lot of Barcelona’s success and goal indirectly in the 14/15 season… such as against juve in ucl final, he gave Alba the long switch which set up the first goal, set up Suarez with his shot on Buffon for the second, and gave neymar the pass for the 3rd counter attack goal.

This is very wrong. Messi was way better than Ronaldo this season. Although Ronaldo scored important goals to win titles. You should watch all Ronaldo's 450 for Real goals by Shawccer and Messi the GOAT Official Movie to know the better seasons for both of them. To me this is one of my favourite Messi seasons but 4th best in his career after 2012 2013 and 2011.

Messi deserves the Ballon D Or every year but now it’s all about who wins the champions league. This is ridiculous, this was by far one of Messi’s best years even without such a great squad and they still fought and competed. Messi played as a finisher under Guardiola for 4 years and scored 70+ goals per years and Ronaldo is playing as a finisher since 2009 still can't break Messi's scoring record and in case of assist we better not talk. Ronaldo fans think we will become like him and yes you can do it by spending 4 hours in gym , doing some normal training with the ball like other pros and here you become cristiano . But Messi fans know that in order to be Lionel Messi you should score 10/10 in the chances created , you need to have an eagle vision , dribbling with absolute fluid speed and close control , a brilliant playmaker and the best free kick taker which is absolutely impossible to achieve.
