It has been three weeks since Jonathan Majors was found guilty for 3rd degree assault and harassment following a March 2023 arrest for a domestic dispute, and ever since Marvel Studios fired him from playing Kang in any future roles, rumors are swirling that the studio could either move away from Kang all together, or recast the role. Erik Voss explains Marvel’s historical reluctance to recast, and how that could all change by recasting their arch villain of the Multiverse Saga.

I hear people say they should shift from Kang to Doom. I say they should keep Kang because they've set up everything for Kang. They should give Doctor Doom his time to grow and shine... and be scary. Not give him a rush-job.
Not to mention let’s say hypothetically something like this happens under the person who plays Doom, will marvel just drop the entire Doom character? I’m with you 100% let’s finish Kang not rush anything and then bring on the Doom!
Let them finish the Kang story and at the of his story give us a teaser of Doom.

Agree, Doom need his own Arc his own story have him tease if they adapt a Battle World like event as a variant who took advantage of the incursions and build his own world from all of that but still Kang is the big bad till the end of this Saga
My biggest bummer with all of the Jonathan Majors drama (with regards to the MCU) is that he was such an engaging actor and really made an impact with his portrayals. Casting Colman Domingo as Final Kang would certainly assuage any doubt in my head. He was incredible in Euphoria
Yeah, I really enjoyed his performance. It's a bummer but I think they had to do it.
I'm generally for giving people second chances and divorcing ones actions from ones art and all but we can talk about that in 10 or 20 years. This is too fresh.

I think it’s pretty important that marvel continues the storyline that they are on, so their best option would probably be to recast Kang, instead of switching it up and finding another villain.
I think they are slowly going the DC path in their movies.

I was going to write the same thing. I unfollowed so many IG pages based on comics/MCU for their poor inconsiderate handling of the situation.

Looking at what he plead guilty to and watching him run like that in that video. It definitely wasn't handled responsibly and this screams hit job. You have the right to retrieve your property with force. This wasn't a DV case this was Buck breaking.
All Majors had to do in that interview was say, "I condemn Hamas and I stand with Israel unconditionally" Watch how fast he would be forgiven and back in Hollywood and Marvel movies before you could do a Thanos infinity gauntlet "fingersnap" Sadly, you have to play the game in Hollywood. Jonathan stay silent which was the worst advice he was given.
I like how you explained making the Prime Kang different then all others kangs. Makes sense an older kang would look different than younger kang.
That would make sense to watch Jonathan Mayer's a plead go through. He gets his job back. He becomes Kang again and then Coleman get tired before it majors comes back and Coleman also becomes Kang an old er Kang

8:53 I definitely think Marvel should continue w/ the Kang storyline rather than pivoting to another villain. 8:32 They did kinda shoot themselves in the foot by showing Jonathan Majors playing every version of Kang in the Council of Kangs tho.
Imo that could be explained by them being one faction of Kangs. There could easily be a hierarchy of councils, which leads our thinking into understanding Doom's hierarchy on Battleworld as well.
So Majors' Kang collected all the ones with a similar brain pattern to himself, Rama Tut creates other Rama Tut variants and those get sprinkled into other councils depending on their strengths.
That could be a fun work around but my intuition says they're gonna do something more vague like "oh that's cute you thought those were the only ones, I have lots more pets" that way post Secret Wars they can still do a bunch w him

For me it's not that much of an issue, besides this isn't the first time the MCU has re-casted a canon character(Rhodey and everyone else) I'm okay with it as long as Kang remains, he's seriously underrated as a villain.
I feel sorry for Jonathan Majors. I feel even worse for us Marvel fans, we’ve fallen in love with the actor and the character(s) and we were looking forward on seeing him in the MCU going forward.

Definitely not rocking with disney for them dropping Majors. They’ve made bad business decisions for money and it didn’t play out well for them. Dropping a good actor won’t change that.
Domingo as kang sounds awesome he even wants to be a villain I would love that or doctor doom either way I’m down.

This is the first explanation that makes me believe recasting Kang could work. They have to either be all in or all out on Kang.
Dropping the character of Kang would be the most dumb thing marvel could possibly do at this point. Destroys any continuity moving forward, ruins the lead up to avengers 5, and wouldn’t give a character like Dr Doom the proper depth and lead up they deserve. Plus it would set the precedent that if an actor in the future were to f up, they would drop that character - what if the actor for Dr Doom gets convicted of something midway through their story? Do they then just completely drop Dr Doom as a character? Keeping and recasting Kang gives them a chance to set a precedent for how they deal with these issues in the future.
Except for that pesky clause in his contract that he is the only actor to be Kang. Unless there's another clause that states legal issues negates first clause, their hands are tied.
@ghiggs8389 Of course, there's an "unless" clause. It's pretty common knowledge that any actor working under Disney signs some sort of upstanding moral character agreement. He broke that agreement. There is absolutely no way that Marvel and Disney don't have a well thought out contingency plan for each and every one of their actors.

The fact that you held off on speculating on the JM trial and then explained why after his trial had reached its verdicts are the very reasons I hold you guys in such high regard moreso than other CZcams channels and even most actual news outlets.
Just want to say I appreciate your ethical approach to the Jonathan Majors story. Obviously, as MCU fans, we want to know what’s going on, but it’s important that we’re getting good information. And people on the internet farming for clicks and attention are NOT good sources of information.

They should absolutely keep Majors. The serious charges were dropped. There are MCU actors dealing with a lot more serious stuff. If their "standards" are that high, they shouldn't work with anyone in Hollywood.

Coleman is cinema excellence and so is Majors. I have a hard time transitioning to Coleman as Kang because Jonathon seal that role and he IS Kang. This one is a hard one for me.
I feel like it’s too early for Doctor Doom, he should be the villain for the next saga. I wouldn’t mind Coleman being the recasted Kang. Hell maybe even make Green Goblin the villain

I think you could have Coleman Domingo would be a great choice as a kang replacement. They could say that this kang is from further in the future and is the strongest kang and any other variants could be older versions, like the councle of kangs seen in quantimana could have been the past and it took so long that they aged 20 years

There is a integrity in your choice to abstain from discussing Major's trial before a verdict had arisen.
Best person to replace him with is John Boyega!!! After seeing they cloned Tyrone and never realizing he was Fontaine until weeks later when I randomly googled the cast, he can definitely pull it off! That boy can act for real, and can definitely pull off the look without skipping a beat!!!!
When asked about popular rumors that he would be replacing Majors as Kang the Conqueror, he replied, "I don't know, right now... I'm always looking at what I have to do right now... I know there's talk and conversations around, and I don't know how much is true. I don't even get that from my team. I can't tell if it's true or not."
Domingo added, "The fans are passionate. Somehow my name is out there in the world. I like the idea of just having your name called and someone speaking lovingly and kindly about something is a beautiful thing."
I think they should use him, I have a line in my head that I'm workshopping - something along the lines of "You were worried about them? You should be worried about me." Or "They warned you about Kang? Well Kang is here." I don't know, something like that.
I just want an OLD Kang, aka Rama-Tut, played by Christopher Judge. Just imagine Teal’c aka the God of War, playing an old POWERFUL Kang.

I think Coleman Domingo would kill it in that role, maybe even better than Majors would have. Majors is good but sometimes he plays things too big, Coleman feels more natural. He also looks similar enough to him that it could be more believable that maybe he was a descendant or maybe the original "Kang". The Kangs also didn't all look alike in the comics so they really should take advantage of the multiverse by having others play all different characters.

This is a mess. Two seasons of Loki and one movie that was a flop and yes - they did all look alike, period.

You know, if Marvel had the Fantastic Four movie earlier, none of this would have happened. They would have introduced to Dr. Doom as MCUs Big Bad. But, I'm glad with what we got.
