    just bought the DFR7 Uniden using your coupon code for under $250, cant wait to get it. I ran cheap Cobra my entire driving life and believe it or not, never got a ticket but was always muting it. I stopped using a year with my new truck because my town radars in predictable patterns. But now I have been going to New Orleans a lot and now a speeding camera got me 46 in 35 for $140 ticket. Lessen learned.

    Drove from NY to GA and back over the Christmas holiday. Went like a bat outta hell when I could do so safely. Only risk was from a ticket, I go slow when it is appropriate. Anyways, with a DFR7 and WAZE, I have a very good idea of where the threats are. I should have looked at that map before I left though. I had X turned off the entire time and I went through SC an VA.

    I just got the dfr7 yesterday and I went for a long drive. I drove past 3 cops two of them using KA and one using laser. first one In the city using KA it alerted me from about a mile away. the second one was right before the highway it was a speed trap he was using laser ii was doing 10 over and when it said laser I slammed the brakes lol. but I didn't get pulled over surprising. I think he was shooting at the car that was in front of me. the 3rd cop was when I was on the highway. the detector started going off about 3 miles out which for a 300$ detector I thing that's just awesome . but I do live in Florida so its very flat with long straight roads.

    I’m fairly new to RD. I bought an RX65 about 18 months ago and it worked well but just died. I ordered this one on amazon for $150 last night, seems like it’s quite a step up over the RX65. My question is, do police generally prefer to use K and Ka bands over laser? If so why? I know the college police close to where I work have laser, but 99% of the time they use Ka.

  • @Wizard92595
    @Wizard92595 Před 7 lety

    As always, nice video. This is the second time now that you've suggested to turn off the "voice on". As much as I hate the voice on initial startup, you have to leave the "voice on" on or else you won't get a voice alert when you get hit with radar or laser.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 7 lety

      That is true, but pretty quickly you'll be able to tell the difference just from the sound of the beeps. :) It would be nice to have the option to turn the initial startup voices off and have the radar/laser voice announcements on if you choose though.

    • @Wizard92595
      @Wizard92595 Před 7 lety

      True, but I feel it would be best if you educated the viewer on what is sacrificed/what to expect with the "voice off" and let them decide. Especially for those who just got the unit, they may be slow the recognize the tones; whereas hearing "KA band" is a dead giveaway that trouble could be ahead. Couldn't agree more on the part of turning off just the initial startup voices. 8-)

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 7 lety

      So I'm beta testing a new firmware for the Radenso XP right now and they are adding this exact feature. It will have the ability to disable the initial GPS announcement but still announce the band and frequency "ie. Ka Band 34.7" when you get the alert. It works great. :)

    Vortex, one last question. Would the Escort Max 2 do well in a Honda CRV? Would you say the Max2 is equal to the Radenso? I like some of the features on the Max2. Not sure how it would filter the collision system and how it's range compares to the Radenso. Thanks

    I had a DFR6 and just got a DFR7 does your DFR7 have the k/KA wide and narrow settings? My DFR6 had the ability to change from narrow and wide but my DFR7 does not have that setting in the menu. I have updated the new maps as it was running a older version when I got it from 4/16 now I'm updated to the 2017 maps. As far as the firmware goes mine came with fw 1.0 I went ahead and even though the newest fw on uniden website is 1.0 I still updated it and it did nothing which is not totally surprising but even in my instruction manual for the DFR7 it shows the ability to change k/ka from wide/narrow. Maybe my manual is in error idk.

    I just bought my uniden and set it up like you did in the video, I live around a bunch of fast food restaurants and Walmart’s. And been getting false alerts should I let it learn these for a week or how can I weed out the false alerts thanks

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  Před 4 lety +1

      Uniden’s can’t learn those automatically. The R3, R7, DFR7 , etc. require you to double tap the mute button to teach it that’s a false alert in the future. You can also use quiet ride’s low speed muting to keep it quiet as well. Non-GPS detectors can’t do that.

    Great vid, thx. Your menu skipped over K and Ka (wide or narrow choices for each). This is after "Ka (filter on or off) on menu screen (9:36 on the vid). If you're in the US you want this set to "narrow" for both the K and Ka band or if not "wide". This will reduce the amount of false alarms. It may be that these choices were added on a new firmware update, after you made your vid.

In other hand DFR8 is 2 year oldrer and there only has been 1 update since 2018. Gps isn't really something that i am looking into radar detector. Get a detector with GPS. It's worth it. The DFR7 is still around. There's also the newer DFR9, but it's priced so close to the R3 that it doesn't make sense, at least here in the US. I'm not sure about Canadian pricing.
