And that we need to learn about "Trauma bond".And that there is better life after DV.And ,"you are not alone." we will tell our stories to give you hope.We are abuse survivors and no matter what, the light that shines in us will always be brighter than the darkness that is outside of us.

I put emphasis on how we raise our African girl child. It is absolutely wrong to teach them to endure abuse neglecting to teach the boy child how to respect a woman. This is lifelong slavery preparation. This is a mental issue, not only financial. Speak up against GBV and a paradigm shift is critical esp. on how we raise our kids and our parents/generation should be flexible for the women not to be at the men"s mercy. Whats the point at the end of the day? A dead married child or a divorced, sane and alive child? The challenge with our African societies is the perception that Marriage is an ultimate goal in life which makes women aspire to very patriarchal narratives & practices of marriage. Men’s violence and abuse towards women goes unpunished because the law caters to masculine domination at the expense of women. This story is so heartbreaking on so many levels. But I applaud your strength Susan, thank you.

This was clearly a case of mismatched expectations and needs. I have come to learn that love is not enough in a relationship leading to marriage. I feel for the kids coz they end up suffering for mistakes we make when choosing partners. As a society we should start learning to treat courting like an interview for the greatest job..that of a Life partner. Lay your values, personality, expectations, ambitions, boundaries clearly.. Then LISTEN carefully to a person's responses, cues, thoughts, nuances, body language, behavior in front of others, their past, and views on as many topics as possible that you can discuss.
It will save you major tears and regrets later if we just learn to listen to white and red flags in a person before we make such major decisions in life. 'fear of missing out' and thinking we can change people later will set you up for failure. Grown ups don't just change.. They are set in their ways and will take major will power to just make minor adjustments for you.
When a person tells you something about themselves the first time, believe it!

It is until I experienced them fighting in front of kids and all the kids were crying, my heart sunk and I was so mad with her.I told her that if she can't use her brain and realise those kids do not deserve that trauma, she should never come to my house as she usually did when things get bad.Thank God when I stopped entertaining her,she decided to move out and got a better place with her kids!
