My mate decided to go electric. He got a Mini Cooper e with no advanced payment. But it's 💩 90 miles range. So he asked to change it. The 2024 mini is £1,000 advanced payment. He ended up going for a Jeep Avenger Summit as it's no advanced payment and almost 300 mile range.

It's not just ev cars they are pushing, most of the petrol engined cars at the more affordable advance payment price are low spec l.0ltr or l.2ltr engines.

I cannot drive a car as I have severe sleep apnoea.
_"You can spend some, or all, of your mobility allowance on a motorbility scooter."_
But I cannot park it outside the block of flats, it will get stolen!
And it won't fit inside the flat, and I cannot carry it up the stairs anyway!
And even if I could carry it up the stairs, it will get stolen from the landing outside my door!
So I get taxis and have most stuff delivered.

@ansfridaeyowulfsdottir8095 They thought my friend had sleep apnea. He had to get a wee thing he stuck to his chin. But turns out he doesn't. Just he's a really heavy snorer.

One is diagnosed with sleep apnoea by a sleep study where one is wired up for the night. Sleep apnoea means one stops breathing multiple times and so one wakes up suddenly, feeling one is suffocating. This means one is never well rested and can doze off suddenly with no warning, so one is not allowed to drive a car or other motor vehicle.
The "wee thing stuck to his chin" is a CPAP mask, which pumps air and stops the airways closing so you continue breathing, and can sleep. Being a heavy snorer can be a symptom, but if one is snoring, one is breathing. During my study I stopped breathing 70 times per hour, and the longest I did not breath was 83 seconds. I can't even hold my breath for 83 seconds.

I'm not being funny, but it's a bit cheeky to expect to have some of these more luxury cars subsidised by the welfare state and not have to contribute a healthy amount towards them.
From what I could tell, there are plenty of decent cars for mobility purposes available with a zero advance payment.

@@TalkingReally like the rest of the world has to, if they're on a budget, you go for nearly new wheelchair accessible vehicle from a supplier like Allied Mobility.

unfortunately that defeats the object of motability scheme, which is all -inclusive. buying a SECOND HAND vehicle, which you insure, service, tyres, etc, and actually OWN is fair enough, but the point is motability you dont do any of that. Zero advance payment is great for those who just need a car. Anyone with specific needs, the payment goes to ridiculous levels. Lastly, where do you think these allied mobility vehicles come from? Yes, motability!
