- Motability is a UK wide scheme that enables disabled people to exchange part of certain entitlements / benefits for a car, WAV (wheelchair accessible vehicle), scooter or power chair.
In this video I speak about the car and WAV options of the scheme, how it works, who is entitled to use Motability and our experiences of it.
I don't have any affiliation with Motability and have not received anything from them in return for this video. The opinions are my own.

When i looked at a possible Motability car at age 75 i was told i was too old! and as i can look after myself (although i live alone) i dont as yet require a daily help for my shopping and ablutions and can just about manage 50yds with a walking stick, i have paid to have handrails fitted at my front and side doors and rented a stairlift(cannot go up or down due to requiring new knees ,3yrs waiting!)
My basic state pension is supplemented by an additional small private pension so cannot claim any additional supplementory benefits, and our recent state pension increase altered my tax code so i only got about half of that!! thank you Mr Hunt, NOT!
I was struggling to understand how this scheme worked just through reading things online, your video has explained everything and more! Thank you for taking the time to let others know, extremely helpful ☺️👏🏼
Thank you :-) you're very welcome. Glad it helped.
@@JennyTrottCoachingI’m actually watching you now thank you very much as I also don’t understand it x
Thanks Jenny you have answered so many questions in an easy to understand and rather humorous delivery, so relaxed and so pleasant.
Wonderful video, thank you. Clear, easy to understand and helped demystify the Motability scheme for me and my family. Thanks so much!
Better than all the videos Iv seen explaining the scheme. Congrats on the great work
I am so grateful for all of your advice I was debating weather to get a motability car and last April I watched your CZcams video and it honestly answered all of the questions I had and it pushed me to take that step and I ordered my car in last April and collected it in May and best choice I ever made in love it and it’s enabled to travel more so thank you so much
So informative. I struggled to find any information on the web. Thank you 😊
Very clear and concise. Thank you
Thank you so much for explaining this. In 2013 I bought a second hand wheelchair accessible car. Now I am thinking of getting a car in this way.

@David Rosenberg I have emphasema, C.O.P.D., asthma, high blood pressure to name but a few. Although I appear as able bodied, I would describe my condition as akin to "driving around with the handbrake on"
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain in plain English the ins and outs of the mobilty scheme, very vert informative. I looked at the website and came of with brain ache !!
@David Rosenberg work for all who are in needs. Thanks for them !

Payment. I was told I am a pensioner and therefore not entitled. As Iv'e got older my needs for motability is more.

It been made in 2008 and cost almost 6000 pounds. Now it is getting old I am thinking of using The Motability Service

Jenny Trott We’re visiting our dealer on Friday and this has given us a pretty good idea in advance

Hello Excellent Video what i wanted to know is, my Husband is a Provisional driver can he learn in the car whilst we have it Thanks.
Am disabled person , I get PIP the highest rate and last year was about to get motability car but I don’t have driving licence 🪪 very beautiful car and price was 260.00 monthly .. cant wait to get motability car… 🚗
Why isn't there a motability element to Attendance Allowance? I'm over 75 and on the higher rate of Attendance Allowance, but I can't get a car on the motability scheme. Seems very unfair. So basically, if you are over 75 and not in receipt of the 4 benefits mentioned, you are unable to get a car through the scheme.
Hi Jenny Trott your video is helping to ever viewer it is to helpfull? Can't take another car need six seater or seven seater ? How can I get help ?
Great video to understand. Please can you tell me, I'm in receipt of pip of enhanced rate daily living that = £356 monthly, is this ok to apply for mobility car.

Is there any chance
Hi Jenny thank you very much for all the information however my dad is over 85 years old and recently he started using the wheelchair ( provided by the GP ) without assessing him due to COVID-19 and has not given him any ratings yet, I’m not sure if I should apply for Motability allowance for him or what would be the next step to be eligible, to get the Motability car.
Cloud I please have your email so i can explain to you more???
Thank you.
Do you have to of held a licence for min amount of time or is it get licence and go
Затащил экспрессом! Просто нереальный!
Am abit concerned - there's several people who am sure don't have the correct social security criterion nor any relatives that would qualify, yet are getting cars from Motability scheme suppliers (these people have the same or less of a condition(s) than myself). Motability when I tried to speak to them to try getting to the bottom of this, did not even want to 'give me the time of day' and am reaching figurative roadblocks in being able to find out how they're being successful in their claims and whether there is another scheme in place for those who are not directly applicable through the Mobility components of Social Security. Any ideas as to what might be going on here, as am all out of ideas and desperately want to continue my independence as an autistic adult - thanks
Five month ago I comment about kash kai but another heavy problem about bonnet is heavy and not self up and a stick to old the bonnet ? When me and
My daughter to help say bonnet is to havey and stick out to hard how can hold the heavy bonnet ?
Very funny?
How long does it usually take to obtain one of these cars? So I’m currently learning to drive and I’m wanting to get a car with a wheelchair hoist adapted could you tell me how long I’d have to wait for something like that are we talking a year, or just weeks. I’m still in the process of deciding if the motability scheme is worth it or not for me. Great video thanks for uploading for us all.x
Thanks, glad you found it helpful. For the unadapted car it can vary how long depending which make, model and if you're fussed about colour! But it would be weeks/few months rather than a year. Not sure how long it takes to have the adaptations done but a quick call to the motability customer services line would tell you. Good luck with the driving lessons!
Jenny Trott hanks for the swift response there love thanks again for the valuable upload 💖
You can also get a mobility car if you getting the enhanced rate of disability allowance and lower rate of mobility allowance.
Good morning! Kash Kai nissan is SUV
On mobility I paid deposit £ 1000
I wrote befor but for every SUV Must have a electric boot? But mine is not

Get problem
hi Jenny, can I fit basic Swivel seat in my car by myself? or I need stamp from "engineering company"? to be legal?
Oo I'm not sure. I'd recommend you call the Motability helpline on 03004564566. I've always found them really helpful.
Hi, just would like to know , end of the lease have I got to right to buy vehicle if so during 3 years payments can be deduct actual market price car? Thanks
From looking at the motability website, you don’t have the right to buy at the end of the lease. You have to give the car back
I paid £ 1000 advance P insignia elite!
Last time.now i got kashkai not like insignia got everything elite same advance P but not electric seat not Auto lights like?yellow bluer can't see night or in rain clear road ! ?others things ok?
March 2024 - if you have just under a year left ask the garage or motability anyway, because of all the delays they are being flexible right now, the man at the car showroom told me at the end of January. I was a bit annoyed as that meant I could've put in for the car 10 months ago. Of course don't take my words as gospel as everything changes in a day at times. But again worth asking.
It is a fantastic scheme, it gives disabled people a great amount of independence, unfortunately the wait for a new car is getting longer.
What if you are a sibling of the person?
Can you explain how to get road tax exemption please? I understand that I qualify for this as a disabled driver and I have been paying my road tax every year without knowing that I did not need to. Thanks for such a good explanation on leasing a car for a disabled person, excellent video!
Your best bet is to contact the DVLA.
Is it all the enhanced motability rate your losing or it just a certain amount depending on what car you get?
Some cars require the whole payment some part of it it depends on the car.
Also some cars require a deposit.
Can a named driver drive the car if the disabled person is not in it? In other words for their own convenience?
i want to add my partner as a second driver but she has provisional licence only ...do i have to let the dealer know at the beginning of choosing a car i dont know what to do :(
I would suggest you call Notability direct as it will depend what type of insurance you have with motability. They are really really helpful in the phone and you'll know you have the correct answer.
Can you get if your dad is on pip and you care for him ?
Hi Jenny
My daughter has autism and gets Lower rate mobility. To get the highest rate what are the requirements.
Hi, the only thing I can suggest is you have a look at this website www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/financial-support/help-with-benefits/disability-living-allowance#sec2
I'm a parent like you, I don't work for DWP so I can't give you any advice other than to read what that website suggests.
Hope it helps
I was wondering about insurance.
I did order a vehicle from motability at the end of the agreement i bought it out from them, now it works out cheaper for me I only pay for the insurance and Rac is cost me 4.99 I don't do much miles approximately around 3k miles per annual
Glad that's worked for you
@@JennyTrottCoaching Thanks darling your video was very informative
Wait do you can buy the car at the end of your agreement?
@@blkdiamond7227 yes if you pay cash to them you can buy it
@@-Hooman- ok thanks i did not know that
Can you explain the “one year left of your allowance” please I don’t get that
When you're awarded DLA/PIP it will be for a certain length of time and have an end /expiry date. You need to still have a year left before that end date to be able to apply for motability. Hope that makes more sense!
Yes it does thanks ... your the best
Can you apply for the mobility scheme for adhd?
It doesn't matter what your Condition is as long as you recieve any of the 4 parts required mentioned at the beginning.
So basically if u apply a car for the person how is disable there disability allowance will go to the car they won’t receive that for 3 years ??
The mobility component yes. But not the care component
I have loads of questions but I’m going going to ask 1 if you don’t mind ... I’m 18 and I’m taking my lessons can I get a motobility at my age or do I have to do second driving
Hi! I wasn't sure what the right answer was but I just found this on the Motability website. Looks like you can!! Hurray!
www.motability.co.uk/contact-and-support/faqs/can-i-learn-to-drive-in-my-motability-car
Jenny Trott Hi, can you get a Motability car? I have a learning disability learning difficulty and developmental delay.
Hi. I'm sorry I don't know. But the helpline are really nice and I'm sure they could help you.
Jenny Trott Do you think they’ll say yes, or no? Because it still is classified as a ‘disability’
I really don't know
What is the maximum amount they can take per week if PIP is giving me more than £60 per week? Do they take all of it?
Yes, if you choose a car which requires it. Remember they only take the mobility component.
What does total allowance mean my sister gets 87 pound a week now is total allowance take all of it
I don't know your sisters personal circumstances. However if she is getting higher rate mobility, and higher rate daily living allowances then the Mobility part of it would go to Motability for the car. And she would be left with the daily living part.
road tax is free if you get higher mobility
Cla shooting brake 4k advance payment
It was called disability living allowance at the time when I decided to get a scooter on mobility I was told sorry you're too old not have one now and yet my friend could have a car why is that she's the same age as me same benefit she can have a car but I can never believe you why why is this
Rather big waffle re the WAVS! Your first port of call should always be the Motability website. Can’t just go to any supplier as they are located all over the country. My supplier is over 600 miles from my house or over 20 hours return journey. They have visited me on a few occasions. A Motability roadshow is the best way to try out a range of WAVS under one roof and you get the opportunity to speak to the converters. I spent a whole year doing research before getting my current WAV and am in the process of changing it as the lease runs out in several months.
I agree .... I think that's what I said?! Hope you find the right vehicle. Thanks for the feedback.
Jenny Trott Very kind thanks for the reply. I have a test drive booked for a few weeks time. Only one suitable vehicle so fingers crossed!
Wheelchair Convertibles.
If you own your own car and have to have a driving aid fitted or a conversion to suit your disability. If you have a Blue Badge you don't have to pay VAT on the cost.
Excellent advice. Truly appreciated friendly cheerful 😃 delivery and many many technical details answering particular queries about what, how and when likewise where. Thank you ever so much. Well done 👏 👏 Well deserved bravos…
@(;~))%%”””&

Basically you keep on paying without owning the car you pay most of your PIP benefits towards something you'll never owned ever
FYI - It's not most of your Pip.
My friend is on it and it's only your motability. You still get your regular component, plus for some cars it's not the full amount of motability, then minus:
Insurance
NO CONGESTION CHARGE
Breakdown cover
Tax
MOT
REGISTERING FEES
Free parking with disabled badge! Most places 3 hours a time. Gold dust in London.
All you pay is petrol. Result!
You still get more than regular benefits, even with the monthly payout to motability, so what you on about. It's Government money, you never worked for it.
That's like a mini Pandoras box and you're still complaining because you are not entitled to it.
Doesn't compare to HP at all. And you CAN own it at the end. Do your research.
Motability need to improve the range of EVs available and seriously reduce the amount they charge for them! It will be cheaper to lease hire them from other companies and with EVs maintenance isn't an issue as there are far fewer parts to fail. Another advantage is the ability to charge at home and they cost far less to run than ICE vehicles and hold their value as it is now known that batteries are out lasting the car itself ! So Motability come on or you are going to lose out !
@David Rosenberg Condemnation without investigation is the height of ignorance ! Albert Einstein ! You sir might not look stupid, but since you opened your mouth, now we know !
Every other person in Northern Ireland has a mobility car, it's the most abused scheme ever. I know a17yr old girl who has a new Mercedes which is supposed to be for her sister (who never uses it because the family have other cars). The sister is not disabled and although she has a dodgy hip, she has no mobility issues bad enough to stop her playing football and riding horses!
Apart from wheelchair accessible vehicles, they should only offer something like a Dacia Sandero or similar budget car, not luxury cars. Also, why hand back perfectly good cars after three years? Kia offer a seven year warranty and more and more manufacturers now offer five years, so let them keep the cars for the full warranty period. It's an absolute abuse of taxpayer's money.
Arthur Fleck do they not check if other family members have a car or not?
Shut the fuck up stop being a winy baby
I agree. Know of 2 people who have motability no problem getting around by any of them. Walking around Alton Towers and Bluewater no problem. Swimming and jumping into pool no problem. Was in a dealer and motability customer came in - again no problem walking around showroom for 45 minutes. Only interested if car had apple car play and Bluetooth and was quite happy to look at top of range model.
I think this day and age and because of the Greedy and jealous people the scheme has now become pretty crap in terms of availability all because of public moaning and groaning meaning disabled people shouldn't have nice cars.
You are telling us nothing new
Brilliant thing Motobility, but the choice cars of just now is atrocious. All I could get was a small car that I struggle to get in and out of.
