    So many commenters blaming those covering the events of Rufford Ford - yet you see other videos of unusual floods creating fords where supposedly 'normal' drivers take big gambles to cross (even those in commercial vehicles that should know better). Taking away the cameras, doesn't take away from silly driving. The former 11 foot 8 bridge in the states has a hidden camera and it's mostly commercial mover vehicles that strike it (even now with it's height raised and intelligent height signage, they still strike it). It's clear that no-one thought that would one day happen on a famous ford - don't think there's many fords left in the UK anyway. The management of it could've been handled better to balance out the fact that it was becoming quite an attraction - for example, a locally-run toll gate for use of the Ford, in order to keep it maintained and manned to ensure it's used properly - with provision for tourist information about the ford and mill. And if people still aren't happy, then there should have been a proper bridge put across (either at that point or at a better crossing point up stream to ensure access is maintained even during floods). The fact that nobody has any imagination or entrepreneurial spirit to say 'lets do this differently' so as to have the 'best of both worlds', coupled with only the reactionary response from the council to basically close it without any additional remedy, is just incredibly sad. Will anyone learn anything from this? I doubt it - but then it's all up to you to prove us wrong.

    Such a waste. This is a perfect tourist location. It gives name to an otherwise unknown location. It appears to me as a very nice tradition you should not get rid of. Let fools be fools, drown their tourist cars, and make some money out of it.....

    Why do people even drive through the water instead of going a bit further but on normal roads?
    You sounded like you are worried about local people not being to drive through the water? Why would they anyway?? Destroying their wehicles, if not immediately or in short term, but in long term for 100%.
    Why has nobody ever answered me, why these idiots and so many of them, drive through rally stages and flood instead of foing 1 mile around on normal roads????

    If so many dolt's didnt intentionally wreck their auto's driving into what they know is hazard deep water Highway's probably wouldnt have to resort too this. Dont get me wrong I Love the YT Entertainment but the thousands and thousands of pounds in daily damage during floods in insanity. The amount of insurance claims at this very spot has too be staggering.

      People have been driving through here for decades. The problem was the infestation of the area by antisocial oiks who instead of being satisfied with watching the videos decided to come down and ruin it for all with the dangerous driving (speeding), unsupervised children running amok, noise of oiks, encouraging drivers to drive through, blocking the road with excess cars parking and littering. It has nothing at all to do with people taking a risk and damaging their cars. These types of Ford are numerous across the UK.

    You can say what you want but as the filmers arrived, the idiots came out to show how not to drive through a Ford. As a result it became unsafe and caused a lot of damage to cars and no doubt the road itself. The only one really to blame are the you tubers. If they were not there, and people didn't attend watching, there would be no need for the idiots to drive so irresponsibily. It just makes me laugh at how the same you tubers take no credit for what they encouraged.dont get me wrong, I enjoyed the videos at first but it became a show and even to the extent of those watching encouraging people to drive though knowing all too well they would fail. Honestly some disgusting behaviour.

    And then the dangerous drivers came. And it brcame a viral thing that drew rhe worst.
    Just go away please with best of intent and let locals have their back rosd back.

    You people that cover the Rufford Ford always leave out the elementary facts: has any onlooker been injured; if not there's no reason to close it.

    • @alexh3974

      It was coming dangerously close. A biker managed to get flipped filly over handle bars and had some of the fast 4x4 lost control It was possible.
      Their was a real risk.

      Plenty of pedestrians got soaked. Deliberately spraying pedestrians is an offence. If drivers drove considerately and stopped being reckless then they might wreck less and the ford would still be open.

      @@alexh3974that silly biker have been told to take it steady when crossing the ford by people near the bridge but instead he has turned around to pick speed up.and hit that ford on a high speed .. it’s totally bikers fault! And by the way I haven’t seen any other roads are getting closed because of an accident.Locals were making the stories up that the biker has lost both of his legs so they can shut the Ford.. it’s a local shop for local people😅

    • @another3997
      @another3997 Před 7 měsíci +1

      It's simple, a lot of people can't be trusted to behave in a sensible manner. They do stupid things, and it costs time and money to recover drowned cars from the ford, and it causes delays and upsets people. There's always the liability issues. If they haven't already, no doubt some idiot would try to sue the highways agency or road maintainer for damages etc... so this is the consequence. You don't need to look very hard to see that other roads that suffer frequent accidents are often altered in some way. There's lots of options, depending on the problem, and some are even closed to cars part way along, just like Rufford.

    • @another3997
      @another3997 Před 7 měsíci

      No, thankfully that's not how it works. It may seem "elementary" to you, but injuries aren't the only metric to consider. The cost, in both time and money, to rescue people and broken down cars blocking the road is high. The disruption to other traffic is high. The money has to come from somewhere, and it's all because some people are either ignorant, or just plain stupid. The likelihood of injuries goes up the more people take the risks.
