    Aivars. Greetings from Saudi Arabia. I have been following you for some time now and seeing you starting at 40 and being able to be successful at freelancing is helping me a lot. I started at the age of 39 (almost 40) and I already have a full time job as a school teacher and liking the idea of finding side gig as you do with mobile development. I would love to say that I admire and appreciate what you share with us and you are setting such a great example for what and where I can be if I persist. Just started my OOP course in C++ and will keep going InshaAllah.

      I'm working as consultant on quite big iOS project and do not see dropping UIKit in it for at least 2+ years.
      Most of the new screens in the project are SwiftUI, but there is no reason to rewrite exiting UI elements.

    I switched from Flutter to native iOS a few months ago and it was the best decision I've made. Swift is a beautiful language and I'm able to build MVPs insanely fast. Also, building for both platforms can be a huge burden when trying to get an MVP to market as a solo developer. If I could go back 3 years, I would tell myself to ignore Flutter and jump straight into native iOS.

    • @yaroslavmakarov2218

    You said to build the best possible application you need to go native. That may or may not be true, depending on the application. What is true, however - the most successful business ideas were often not the best. Simply they had better marketing or there was some exclusive business deal. Remember the DOS operating system?

    • @smotch7533
      @smotch7533 Před měsícem +1

      that's quite false, the most successful businesses are almost always the best products in the market. Its true after a while there is lock-in and companies aren't able to constantly chase the latest new thing but eventually the market shifts. Thats a core part of capitalism. The best product always wins in the end.
      On the native comment, I'll just ask one question to answer your question. how do you build widgets with flutter, RN etc. They're always chasing native, but will never catch up.

    • @AdamSowinski
      @AdamSowinski Před měsícem

      @@smotch7533 most of the time it works like you said but not always. Good luck with creating a better Facebook starting from an indie dev point.
      As to your second paragraph. I don't agree. Flutter lets you render every pixel so from a widget perspective you can do whatever you want. You can create a custom widget that sets a new trend of user interaction that may be copied later by native technology.

    The "problem" of Flutter is Google. Google has the habit to kill off the things that are not profitable enough. I know, I know, Flutter is open source blah blah blah. But without a company at the back, it would be difficult. They fired the whole team in the US recently (even though there are some left), but Google is going to a path to ask other big company like LG to use their Flutter. It feels like when Samsung is developing its Bada OS.....
