Can you make a video about how to start a project, for example: project skeleton, file structure, system and database design... I always worry about my project not good enough. Wishing you a positive day
I'm working on the SwiftUI boilerplate project, but that is delayed a bit because of the live cohort launch.
This was awesome, and very well made!
Thanks for opening up your life to us, never knew Latvia was so beautiful (and modern!)
Thank you! Glad you like it.
In Latvia, you can find Soviet time architecture and nice historical buildings and streets. Interesting mix :)
Nice place. All the best Aivars for your new upgrade. We were habitual to see in your old setup in that submarine like room, as a viewer even we need some time to adjust with your new background 😄
Haha, submarine. Right, I can see similarities😅
Yep, it will take time to adapt for myself as well.
Thanks!
This new space looks amazing! Inspirational spaces have always a good impact on your days. Happy for you my friend ☺☺
Thanks Jeremie! Moving will be a hustle, but I'm happy to go back to Riga.
Quantity leads to quality only if you willfully push yourself.
Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.
Nice Fuji camera, i’d like it too
Also, you could follow your own advice and build apps that solve problems for certain specific markets.
Sounds like a super busy couple of months ahead!
I’d love to try the 12 apps in 12 months sometime, but I totally agree you could get burnt out constantly starting new things.
I think for me too like one app every two months is more realistic
I did that to myself. It will be busy June :D
App per month sounds too much, more realistic could be 3-4 months cycle:
- Build new app or big feature
- Release, fixes, ASO
- Marketing
- 4th months for healing from burnout and getting new ideas :)
A lot of very exciting things going on! Praying for a safe move!
Thank you!
Great vlog Aivars, lovely to see more of Latvia! Which m series macbook pro do you have?
I'm still on 16" M1Pro, perhaps will get M4Max when they come out.
@@AivarsMeijers sounds good! Looks like it’s been a great laptop just ordered the 14inch m3 pro so will be keen to see how that holds up
Is this a new office, new living space, or what exactly? Awesome content as always. Keep it up!
All of that. That will be office with two bedrooms :)
I'd say moving to Riga is a downshifting today. Even small cities in Latvia look much more attractive. And it is easy to get a coffee machine.
I know. I moved from Riga to a smaller city 10+ years ago when it wasn't a mainstream thing yet.
I'm a trend starter, not a follower 😂
Small cities are comfortable for going out on a weekend to visit local burger joints or beer bravery. If it is the only place where to go out all year long and it is closed in the off-season, that's not so fun anymore.
Will see what I think in a year or a few, but I spent most of my life in Riga and missed it.
@@AivarsMeijers I see, so basically you got bored living in a smaller city, right?
Nice vlog. Thank you for your work.
Hello from Belarus ;)
Hey, thanks!
can you make a video on how to come with SAAS project ideas?
That's the first lesson in the linked free email course. Check description.
Aivars, don’t underestimate the overhead of moving house… we moved house beginning of this year.
Still not completely setup 5 months later.
What do you want to achieve with your apps? Just for experience? You want to expand your knowledge in different industries?
I'm planning to cut down on things I own, giving away and selling stuff.
I'm very pragmatic about my apps. They should be fun to make and generate money ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
looks like a really nice apartment. how much does a place like that run in Latvia?
Depends on location, but around 700 € for rent and 200-400 for utilities.
Do you have two flats now (the old one plus the new „office) or did you move here with your whole family?
We will move over to the new one.
Aiwars do you think it is very difficult to find projects on upwork for a beginner?
and as a full time income upwrok should not be considered?
in a video from 5 years ago about freelancing you said that upwork is the last thing you should rely on when looking for freelance work, is that true?
I'm currently learning ios development, I'm only interested in freelance format of work in the future, I'm worried whether I'll be able to have stable projects or at least partially stable.
Start making connections with other iOS devs and freelancers!
Hot leads (from people you know or refer you), are always better than Upwork, or any other freelance platform!
I do iOS dev as a freelancer, I’d love to chat with what you’re learning and your goals!
I started on Upwork and that worked out well for me, but most of the projects are not great there.
@MikaelaCaron has great advice, I would try to be around other freelancers. I got one good project from another iOS dev I met at a local meetup.
Is it worth it to learn ios development in 2024? What would you recommend to start with: uikit or swiftui?
What about hybrid development/KMP? Won't they make ios native development obsolete?
I don't think native development will be obsolete anytime soon.
If I would start learning iOS development from scratch, I would start with SwiftUI
Why don't you use the MacBook keyboard even in such a minimalist setup?
Because it is better to rise screen up and sit straight
Привет, спасибо за видео, в какие игры играете? Очень интересно. Нравятся ваши видео вне программирования, очень интересно наблюдать за человеком вне работы. Не останавливайся! Не могу адекватно писать на английском, пишу на русском.
Hi. No problem, I can read and speak Russian, but can't write.
Currently I'm Playing Last of Us on PC and Death Stranding on Mac, but can't say I'm playing games often.
Is your apartment/office located in Albert street? :D Amazing place to have office :D
Not really, but close. I was looking at a few apartments in that area as well. I lived near there before moved to Jelgava.
Why is the coffee shop closing?
They are making just enough money to keep lights on. Not enough to keep it running like that for a few more years.
Window facing table - is one the worst possible scenarios. Your eyes should have some rest time.
+ brightness on all your devices should be practically maxed out.
How many kids my friend? Are they all already over 18 and moved out?
One moved out already, and another one is still in school.
I’d move too if all our coffee shops closed. Priorities right? lol
Exactly! Sure you can survive without good coffee shop around, but who wold like to live like that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ha ha, i would also move city if there was no good coffee shop.
Exactly, what else could I do :)
Are you gonna buy it or rent?
rent. Buying make sense only if you are going to live in that place for 20+ years
