    *Correction* - The max power output is 1500 watts not 2200. What kind of video would this be without tons of misinformation . . . 🤦‍♂️

    As usual, well done Matt on the video and you definitely have more bikes than I do 😆

    I feel like I'm the odd man out that thinks this is AWESOME! I work 12 hour shifts. I don't want to spend ANY time taking off my rear tire or replacing an axle. This would be replacing a dumb trainer for me so the "roller" feel would be an upgrade. I figured the price was due to the software compatibility with Zwift etc. which should be worth something even if there is no built in power meter. My plan would be to get this then the (Powerlink zero) power meter soon after.... THX for being so thorough. Best review of the KICKR I've seen. I REALLY needed the info on storage/dimensions as well.

      @mlegrand  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, there’s lots to like about this. My wife’s bike would need a cassette change to use my trainer but this is just so much easier. Or she can just pop it off and ride to work. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    Wow - I have to agree with your analysis on the price and, as others have said, that's a real tough sell at the price point. For me, it's just a bit gimmicky - it's not really rollers and it's not an on-wheel trainer. Personally, I think riders with an existing power meter can find a lot of better priced options that are only marginally less convenient. Great review as always Matt.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, I love my rollers. These are different but not necessarily bad. I think this will be perfect for switching bikes quickly and pre-race situations. I'll probably ride them tonight.

    Ohhhhh baby! This seems like a fun toy... now how can I justify it 🤔 Great stuff as always!!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, it's a really interesting option. I think it's going to be a great addition to our house but I also think it's kind of stuck at an interesting price point. Either way, it should be useful. Thanks for checking this one out!

  • @TheCelticClydesdaleShow
    @TheCelticClydesdaleShow Před 2 lety +2

    I dunno. I've got a dumb wheel on trainer that takes about 10 minutes to get set up. I'm sure it would take less time to get going on one of these, but the ROLLR strikes me as just a slightly more intelligent, much more gimmicky version of my dumb trainer.
    At that price point, I think I'd rather have the Core. Sure, it would take a lot longer to go from outside to inside riding, but I've never found myself in a rush to get set up and mashing on my trainer.
    Great video, Matt!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před 2 lety +1

      I think one big issue is the required power meter to make this work as a smart trainer. That’s a big ticket item. 💰

    • @TheCelticClydesdaleShow
      @TheCelticClydesdaleShow Před 2 lety

      @@mlegrand I thought you had said it will vary resistance, but it just lacked power. I could have misunderstood.
      In any case, that pricepoint seems a bit high for what it does.

    Older bikes, 7 or 8 speed cassette, quick release, might need extras to work with CORE. But not an issue here. I'm in as soon as price drops to $400. I've got assiomos on my old bikes. I depend on tech that just bolts on any bike. Plan B is to run if cold outside, forgot bikes. We're supposed to be triathlon people after all. If I do get a modern bike it would probably fit the CORE no problems. I use my kinetic brand tire powered, inride reads power but not zwift interactive about 10 times a year for now.

      @mlegrand  Před 2 lety +1

    First, this is so cool that you get to review this project in such a timely manner too! (You've really made it!!!(?))
    Did you find it limiting that you were more or less limited to inside shots?
    Goshm you did a great job with those powerpedal display set up. Also great product placement on the wahoo watch. Really thoughtful.
    Holy hell that's a big box!
    On the mountain bike front, please help Evan ride mountain bikes. If he doesn't, he might die! We're now doing a harder race in July....this'll go well.
    Dang, the power pedals sound expensive!!!
    Crystal ball time. If the Kickr sales are X, what do you think these will sell? Half of X, 1/3 of X? Curious how sales do.
    XOXO

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m guessing 1/3 or less. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’d love to be wrong but it’s tricky to have an expensive product like this without integrated power.
      No joke about Evan. Please don’t kill him. I just had a really nasty mtb crash and it’s taking forever to get better. 🤦‍♂️

      To me traditional rollers feel the most like outdoor road cycling. For example: www.insideride.com/

  • @KwadSkwad
    @KwadSkwad Před 2 lety +2

    I can't understand the price point without a power meter.
    For the convenience you get in hot swapping a bike, sure, you save several minutes in setup.. but for an hour or hours long workout, I'm not sure that few minutes time savings means much. plus, if you are hot swapping bikes, unless you have power meters on all of the bikes, you are going to have to swap your meter (pedals, for example) in order to get any quality work across the different bikes (imho).
    I mean, unless the actual out of the saddle feel is just super dramatically better than the 'locked in' rear wheel setup.. I can't really see the appeal of this roller product for anyone doing serious training.
    I guess some of us take this stuff way too seriously though :D

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  Před 2 lety

      Yeah, it's an interesting price point. I actually didn't know the price for a while and I was guessing $600-$700 just based on other trainer offerings from Wahoo. Lacking onboard power is fine but it seems like it'd be priced accordingly. That doesn't mean I don't like the product. I can put an old power meter on my wife's bike and we can switch out bikes super quickly and easily. But in my opinion, getting out of the saddle does not feel dramatically better on this device. I love the feeling of real rollers and that's not what this feels like to me. It's good but I think the bigger selling point is the fact that you can drop in a bike and go.
      We might all be surprised at how many people dread taking off their rear wheel. I get messages on YT all the time asking for a trainer where you don't need to take off the wheel and my response is always 'get over it, taking the rear wheel off is better and you'll get used to doing it'. Or something like that.
      Thanks for checking this one out!
