G-Shock GA-2100 Watches : Are They Worth It?

  • I see the direction that individuals take by profiteering on certain watches because of high demand and low supply. Some sellers are making 4 to 5 times premium over recommended retail prices..is it good for the industry?
    I share my thoughts...

    I've got the black with white markers. Lume is weak, but you can see with the light. Pretty good value and does fit a smaller wrist unlike many of the G shocks. Solar power would elevate it....

    I'm sure they will make some more and I can wait for it to be available at retail price or even lower. I experienced something similar when I was living in China. People went crazy for this particular brand of cheesecake, waiting in long lines and only allowed to buy 1 per customer. Lots of other cheesecake shops opened (but hardly anyone went to these). 6 months later nobody wanted cheesecake any more, and a couple of months later the shop closed down. These fashion frenzies pass.

    Great review 👍. I love g shock because if the durability. My mom would by them for me as kid. I would wear them for about 7 months all banged up and scratched, my mom would not buy a new one until it stopped working. They were so durable I would smash them with a rock to get my mom to finally buy me a new one. They were a lot cheaper back in the day.

Can say I own a couple (Star Wars Storm Trooper was fun) I really appreciate the video helping people to purchase a watch. Buy because you can enjoy wearing the watch and don’t want to sell grey market value. I own several brands of watches that can turn a large profit. If you are just getting into this fun collecting, you will not have the purchasing power through an AD.

I'm sure someone that's done a lot of the custom Casioaks could do it... it'll come down to how much they want me to pay for them to do it. I own the BW one, just a very good watch and good looks too. But no need to pay overprice. In my area (Norway) you can get the BW one just about anywere, the stealth one seems to be sold out. But for like multi porpouse, work, sports the BWs white markers gives the time at any condition. Whats fun, it has a certain formality over it too given its simplicity, yet a strong precense when seen outside the shirt cuff: So it could be worn on a meeting, this thing goes nice under the busness shirt too if it has to. The other day I recieved a new wet suit for some of my daily work, and I thought; damn it I need a diver to go with that thing. (For this kind of work I care not about the looks, but you know...ya) But no, the oak did the trick in that department too. So my verdict over this watch is; you just put it on and you are good to go. And then put on something colourfull with Nato in the weekend. :D Great video.

    Some fools are paying twice the price (or more) of both watches; the all black and the black with white indices, apparently because of fashion or something! I'm for cost effectiveness, so I went with the beautiful matte yellow GA-2110SU-9A and the funny looking purple and blue GA-2100THS-1A, that one comes with two bands; blue and black. Both watches for $120 each! Obsessing on the black ones is dumb and costly.

    Great vid, but I have to disagree on the legibility, or lack thereof. I've been wearing my GA2110 (I have the yellow version) for a month now and it's been great in pretty much any lighting conditions. The lume is still visible in my dark bedroom when I wake up after 7 hours of sleep. And this is coming from someone who usually wears a tritium watch. I agree they should have put some lume on the hour markers as well but somehow I'm still able to tell the time when I can only see the hands on this one, not sure how that works. Accuracy on mine is great too, it has barely lost a second in one month. Now if only it had solar it would probably be the perfect G for me.

    • @PeterKotsa
      @PeterKotsa  Před 4 lety +1

      nicely said. I think that the lighter the dial the legibility increases. My experience with the black ones have not been very favourable legibility wise.
      Let me give you and example, I have a Seiko Samurai in bright Ornage and it is by far the most legible and clearest dial to read the time under any lighting condition..even under water.
      I think the Yellow G achieves a very similar effect. I was looking at grabbing a yellow one for myself and you have probably persuaded me..LOL
      cheers Peter

    • @storm3016
      @storm3016 Před 4 lety

      Actually, no. You really can't do any better than white hands on a black dial when it comes to legibility, it's all about contrast. Not saying you shouldn't get one, but I highly doubt the yellow one will do any better for you. Especially when factoring in the light colored indices of the black and white version. I'm not trying to be a dick here, but all I can think of is that there must be something wrong with your eyesight..

    Story time:
    I was a speculative buyer of this Casio series. Purchased 5 different models hoping to flip on eBay. I went as far as “upgrading” the bezels (and in some cases the straps too) to metal in different colours. My eBay listings did attract loads of views (500 within the first 2 hours for one in particular) and watchers, but ultimately no one bit at the price I was offering.
    I pulled them after a week with none sold and gifted them to extended family members.
    I guess the moral of this story is to just buy watches and enjoy (without having ulterior clandestine dime milking motives)!
    P.S
    I liked this video!

    Just be patient don't join in the party. These watches are not limited editions. Those Casio hoarders will learn their lesson once their watch can't sell and they will bring down the price to retail or lower because they need their money back. I just bought it for USD100 last few days.
    I bought the OAK Steel casing and bracelet too and now it looks super awesome.

    I still don't understand the hype. Damn! This model truely broke the world wide web in terms of watch topic. But personally, I still don't get it and just dont have a place to my preference. In fact, every g shock model that has that similar circular mode indicator just dont appeal to me, those are useless. Instead of placing that huge space eating indicator, why just dont separate the secondhand, the day/date and other usefull function than that useless pointer of modes there on the 9 O'clock position. And yes, It could be more appealing if it has a tough solar movement.

    The all black and all red have legibility issues. No use having a watch you have to double take to read the time. That day indicator is useless. They should have made the LED display much larger taking up the bottom half of the dial. A lot to like but given the flaws this will be just an analogue time only watch for the majority. Alarms and stopwatch. Meh.
