Literally half the dialogue in the movie is just them justifying their inaction against not stopping Thanos, war, and atrocities.
Hey, if you want the audience to feel sympathy for the Eternals. How about you have this movie be their first appearance on Earth or say they went into hibernation for 10,000 years.
Or make it happen in an alternate timeline or something. It's just silly trying to justify their inaction over Thanos.
They wouldn't even need much to justify it. The Deviants were supposedly dead, right?
Eternals never really cared about humans in the first place. Their role was to make sure that the deviants are killed and they did it. That was their mission and they didn't try to disobey their creators, their Gods. So it's easy to see why they wouldn't care or try to go against the orders of the Celestials. But when they were faced with the extinction of a planet they got attached to, they started to hope that they can save it. Ajak saw the potential for good in humanity because they were able to save half of the universe. Sersi fell in love with a human (Dane Whitman). Ikaris loved Sersi in the end and decided to help her. Druig and Makkari probably didn't want to loose their home and their memories together since they are in love with each other. Each one has its own motivations to obey the Celestials or save the mankind. I don't think it's that hard to follow.
@@KBWreckerAjax didn't order them to stop because she doesn't want human to go doom and Thanos's success would delay the emergence

Developing 10 characters in one movie felt too ambitious. It would have worked better if the eternals was a series on Disney +. Each episode could focus on a different character and it wouldn’t feel too bloated.
This
The budget would be too much for a TV series. Maybe they are planning to develop these characters in future movies or series, like they did with others. Otherwise, the movie served its purpose to properly introduce the Celestials to the MCU as they will probably play a big part in the future if they plan to bring Galactus.
@Florin What about a budget similar to The Mandalorian?Despite being a Tv show most of the special effects and CGI were convincing. The show was about a brand new character most people liked. If I made a pitch for an eternals Tv show each episodes would be about developing one maybe two of the characters. Set up all of their their goals, relationships, strengths, and weaknesses. The action can be saved for the finale. The reason why it worked for Civil War, Infinity War, & Endgame is because most of the characters had the foundation of their characters developed in previous movies. The Russo Brothers just built on top of the foundation of their characters. By the time they were directing/writing Endgame they already made 3 movies. That is how they were able to juggle so many characters in one movie. The biggest reason why this movie is bombing is because it’s having a hard time juggling 10 characters in a 2 and a half hour long movie but most of the characters felt undercooked. That is why I suggested a series, the director would have an easier time to juggle so many characters.
@@florin616 want me to be honest with you? I hope they retcon them, their lore just seemed very out of place for me and their movie wasn´t an amazing first impression

@@Wobmiar Yeah it’s not a symptom so much as a side affect of other symptoms. Like, many autistic people are sensitive to sound, loud noises may make them freak out since they also sometimes cant properly convey how they feel.

I'm a huge comic book fan and like the Eternals and love Dane Whitman, but even I knew this movie was gonna be absolute shit. I don't know what they were thinking.
Your fault for reading a tweet from an mcu fan
Why would you design your super power beings that you're personally making to carry out a specific plan have the capability to not want to do said plan... and why would you make one of them deaf?
Because big boy is a idiot and cares more about including diversity than making good characters.
Because they become too much like the humans.
Because the Eternals get their minds wiped everytime the mission is successful and reused later, and this was one of the only times they were able to stop the Emergence before getting their minds wiped.
And Makkari is deaf so that she isn't harmed by her sonic booms.
@@shibasarekewl7704 She's deaf because otherwise she'd be hurt by the sonic booms her speed power creates. Use your brain.

They're got to stop retconning stuff into an already overstuffed MCU
-the eternals were here all along, but we didn't know it
-wenwu has had the 10 rings for 1,000 years, but we didn't see him until now
-blade exists, which means there's vampires, but we haven't seen them until now
-the black knight exists, which means king arthur(!?) exists in the mcu continuity
Etc
This is starting to sound like Transformers lore
At least wenwu ruled stuff from the shadows and the ten rings entire thing was ruling the world from behind eyes, but vampires are a bit more difficult lol, why didn’t they just say that they were made from the snap
Don't forget that every decision made by anyone in the MCU is dictated by the TVA who have controlled the universe since the beginning.
Truth is, the MCU as an interconnected universe created a massive problem for Marvel movies.
No one questioned why Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man and the X-Men didn't help the Fantastic Four stop Galactus because it was assumed that every movie was its own universe, and was allowed to develop individually.
Now every new Marvel flick has to explain its existence in this gargantuan franchise and fit tightly into more than a decade of lore.
@@starkillersneed Just like actual comics. But yeah, it does pose some really serious questions for people who don't just handwave the continuity aspect when something like vampires are introduced.
I guess this is just the eventual result of a franchise becoming the juggernaut that it is, spanning decades, dozens of movies, etc. It couldn't be fully planned from the start.

Right before he cuts to the Hiroshima too😅
@... not if you're talking about the Celestial Madonna.
It's like Jupiter Ascending but instead of being stupidly goofy and collapsing over its own weight to the point of being entretaining, it's self serious and over complicated yet balanced just enough to be pretty average.
So true.
The fact that it's so average is what makes me curious to watch it. If the other MCU films are often regarded as really good films when I think most of them are average, then what makes this one stand out?
The only reason why this movie works is because it’s a marvel movie. No one would be hype about this if it was its own thing.
@@CoOlKyUbI96 Probably that most MCU films had something new or interesting (to counteract how bland it was and push it to ‘good’) or were bland because they’re the umpteenth film in that character’s franchise but due to “Yeah [popular movie hero]!” it’s still seen as good. This however is somehow both new and boring.
But Jupiter Ascending didn't have any deaf characters so ableism!
Seeing as Hiroshima lead to anime and therefore a massive increase in deviants, it seems relevant to their mission.
And Godzilla. Without Fatman and Little Boy, there would be no Godzilla.
The worst thing is that having the “Big Boi” tell the “Foreverers” that the plan was to harvest humanity from the beginning it would have provided a much better source of conflict than keeping them in the dark. Like, it would have somewhat justified their detachment in the start because they knew of the specific purpose they were to fulfill; And then you could have throughout the passage of time shown that they - or at least some - couldn’t avoid becoming attached and start caring for humanity; Almost in a, well, humanistic sense, given that they would have outlived every individual they’ve met, maybe some developed an admiration for humanity as a whole. And instead of CGI monsters and dumb shoved conflict you could explore the characters and have a organic conflict as each one comes with their own views as consequence of all the eras of interaction with humankind; Some like I said grew to admire them, and choose to prevent their impending extinction, others might despise humanity, or disregard their own thoughts and do as intended, or some might ally with the ones that are willing to challenge the “Big Boi” harvest but because they intend to rule over humanity themselves instead. I don’t know, you probably could have multiple views just following whatever particular experience each of these characters had through the ages. All to the boiling point where they know that there will be no return. I think having them aware of their end purpose from the start and showing whatever eventual heroism that were to happen as a slow growth would cover both the “didn’t interfere in tragedies” thing (at least better than having they not know what they were created for and thinking that they are legit guardians, yet, for no reason but an nonsensical command whose logic they don’t question till the plot tells them to, only fighting the Engineers-Xenomorphs creatures from some unused Prometheus concept art found in the trash) and providing, imo, better character development (which isn’t hard, I’m aware) that would lead on it’s own to the real and more organic conflict of the movie.
I admit that I know jackshit about these foockers, never even gazed at the cover of a Foreverers comic book in my life, but as a movie, I think it would be one simple decision that would have, at least, lead to better (as in less-shitty) results.
The point is, this shit I just came up in my head is the movie I would probably had enjoyed more, and that’s why Hollywood should had known better than making a movie without consulting me. Also, no one else is allowed to disagree /texan accent
if you actually went through all that walltext, thanks for reading through my NandovMovies moment I guess, and yes I do agree that im full of shit
Congratulations for making a better and ten times better plot in a CZcams comment than Hollywood in a two hours movie
That would require writing depthful characters, way too much work. Make Angelina Jolie go whoooosh and make money
Celestials only spoke with one Eternal, one who will be chosen to be their prophet. Usually, it's Ajax who was the only Eternal chosen by the Celestials to communicate. But there is also Makkari who was created by Tiamut and he choose to pick him (That's from Neil Gaiman's run on Eternals in 2006). So the fault would be on Ajak and Ikaris because they were the only Eternals who knew about their true mission on Earth.
The only problem with your suggestion is that it sounds less like an artificial soulless product and more like a real movie.

Surely it would've been more interesting to remove the deviants and have the eternals BE the villains, knowing their purpose from the start and having to manipulate humanity to coax them to their greatest growth through war and technological advancement, but they begin to feel guilty and connect with humans over time as they interact with them, and turn on their creator. Then the big boy can unleash his monsters as a last ditch effort in an attempt to realign his servants back to their initial purpose, but they rebel and decide to become protectors. This would at LEAST give a halfway decent explanation for them standing by as all sorts of atrocities and outside invasions occur over the past movies.
They could've just had them be immortal souls that were reawakened by Thanos's snap & were brought together after Endgame. That could've solved most of the dumb story elements of the film.
Yeah, I'm a big fan of the MCU, but... this movie just baffled me. They throw a whopping ten characters at us, and not only are they not human, but they were just created for a higher purpose that no human had any knowledge about. It makes all the characters extremely unrelatable/uninteresting when they essentially all have the same backstory and that backstory is essentially nonexistent. Add on to the fact that they tossed in two other superhero character setups at the end and I can't help but think that the sole purpose of this movie was to introduce characters for a later purpose. I can only hope that when they return in future movies they have something interesting to do or even just serve as plot devices to spur on something else that's more interesting.
Why
Yeah honestly this was the first movie I have seen so far that made me worried about how this next phase of marvel is going to go. It pissed me off how bad this movie was
@@LushLover12341 Imo the reason the DCEU never saw the narrative success Marvel did is mainly because they just kind of threw out movies with no overarching plan. With Eternals adding on to Sony doing their own thing with random Spider-Man characters in addition to Venom's teased addition to the MCU I'm afraid they're just nearsightedly producing movies and are going to write themselves into a corner
The superman clone looks so much like Bucky Barnes and it bothers me so much
Marvel probably thought "Let's take an obscure license we have and make a movie out of it like guardians of the galaxy!" but they forgot they fired James Gunn...
Didn’t they bring him back lol

I didn’t even think about the fact that they could’ve made Sprite appear older just as easily as they made her mortal. Lmaoo wow
Maybe she wanted to live a life. Being immortal might've become boring for her.
Makes me wonder, why did big boy give Sprite the appearance of a child? Maybe it's comic accurate, but it's not like the MCU hasn't taken liberties with the source material before and they undo her agelessness anyway, purely so they can bring the child actor when they need to, but that whole problem would have been solved if they just used an adult.
Maybe they thought it would make an interesting character arc, but it's super fucking creepy when you think about the implications of it.
Couldnt the big bad just make them not have emotions or some shit?
they made the deviants without emotions and things escalated because they were only killing machines.
It's a movie about a race war with the diverse group that fights against generic CG monsters
So… every bad generic fantasy movie ever made
The deviants look like decepticons. Optimus Prime should have used the Allspark. Then Bigboy could have transformed into a better plot.
You know, the Thanos snap issue?
*They could have just set the movie before that*
This is an alternate timeline where deviantart artists are forced to exist in their natural forms
Even hardcore comic book nerds never really cared about the Eternals. They’re basically the leftover concepts Jack Kirby had after making the New Gods for DC. The only thing really memorable about them was their art style and that was completely ignored by the movie.
Their comics design is awesome, unique and quintessential Kirby, but nope, let's give them all similar-looking Arrowverse jumpsuits
I'm eternally grateful I have enough sense to skip movies like this.
Not many people do unfortunately. Thus they'll keep pumping them out lol.
I consume a fuck-tonne of superhero content. Even I skipped this as well as Birds of Prey. The line needs to be drawn somewhere.
Its always funny when the character that makes the most sense is the villain
What really blew my mind about this movie is that it couldn't even follow its own rules. Like, the one guy getting involved in the Spanish Inquisition doesn't cause a disaster, but Phastos getting involved in Hiroshima directly causes it???!
The movie is still too long at 157 minutes and it somehow still feels not long enough
Those two examples are totally different. Druig wanted to mind control humans so no one was even able to start a conflict with another. Phastos is guiding and helping humans to discover new technology by themselves. He helped humans with science who then went on and built the nuclear bomb by themselves. Phastos wasn't part of the Manhattan project or anything. The Eternals mission was to help humans turn into an advanced species. With Phastos guiding them and helping them in small instances is exactly what the Celestials want. Druigs goal is opposite of what the Celestials want. Controll them to just exist in harmony. That wouldn't help them evolve into a more advanced species.
@@HuuskoTheMan They still majorly conflict with history which is one of the big no no's the film even goes out of its way to establish. At least in the Hiroshima example they acknowledge it even if it's in the most half assed and poorly written way, but Druig mind controlling the Aztecs is a major "Nah it'll be fine" simply because the plot requires it to.
@@YouCantDeleteDenzelL what they establish in the movie and say over and over is that humans must solve their own problems. They must guide from the shadows so the humans can become an advanced civilisation, but the humans must reach that it on their own. THAT'S what they've been saying several times in the movie and that's why it's a big no-no that Druig walks of to controll humans rather than just influencing them. You don't have to like it, but that is what they are saying several times and is their explanation for why they are more fine with Phastos connection with the Hiroshima bomb than with Druig walking of going against the plan of the Celestials.
@@HuuskoTheMan just because they say something several times it doesn't make it not lazy writing, in fact if anything, "they must guide from the shadows" is just a band aid on the gaping bleeding wound that is the bigger complications caused by the Eternals' own existence and ties to Big Boi.
There's a reason showing and not telling is considered the most important rule of storytelling, and this movie doesn't just break that rule, it smashes it and takes a giant shit all over it.
@@YouCantDeleteDenzelL I really don't agree with you that they are "shitting all over the rule show don't tell"! Its almost like we didn't see the same movie. We see, don't hear, about how Phastos starts to hate people because when he guided them they created the Hiroshima bomb. When we later meet him we see that he has started to love humans again because he has found a husband and even has a human child with that human. This SHOWS us that he has loves humans again.
What we see, and what the movies show us, is that the eternals has guided the humans 7000 years ago guiding them into building Hanging Gardens of Babylon for example. That's not something they told us, just shown. We see time and again examples where the eternals guide early civilisation with irrigation, farming and the like to make them into an advanced species a lot faster. We are shown that Sprite tells stories that form human culture, which is reinforved a lot later in the movie when they mention the legend of Icarus that flew too close to the sun and just say that it was one of Sprites stories. Eternals has effected a lot of human history and they show it throughout the movie. There are while collages showing Cersi when she hangs out with humans and watering their fields. I personally feel that they showed us so much of the story that weren't spoon fed to us the audience through just narration. Just my personal opinion, but I really don't agree with you!

You described all superhero movies lol.
When I saw I the text crawl at the beginning of the film I knew I would be in for some masterful exposition and storytelling. Seriously over a two and a half hour runtime and they needed a text crawl? They could have even made it work well in the text since a main character is a STORYTELLING ILLUSIONIST. It's bad when you start a movie and know it'll have poor writing.
I’m surprised how you didn’t mention how easily the really hyped up evolving deviant got defeated. Like especially since he had regenerative abilities and was able to talk.
He was so cool and he was so easily killed and I had given up the miziqual of hope that this movie had a redeeming anything.

@@vizthex you sir
Are absolutely right
This movie is some real garbage
Kind of funny that they say they only intervene when it involves a deviant but in the comics, Thanos is a deviant.....i guess marvel forgot
They mentioned some BS about him being a half Deviant in the film.
In comics canon Thanos' parents are both Eternals and a "Deviant" is just a weird offspring that's cursed.
In this MCU canon deviants are a whole nother species and if you remember from Infinity War, Thanos is from the planet "Titan". So we've known all the way back in Infinity War that he is not a deviant in the MCU, he's a Titan. (Or as it turns out half Titan)
I assumed he was full Titan before this film but I guess he's half deviant now.
I would have preferred he just be 0% deviant.
I'm guessing you forgot the part where Eros is introduced as Brother of Thanos and is an Eternal therefor making Thanos an Eternal.. which was also the case in the comics you mentioned :)
@@stuv1996 They did NOT mention anything about Thanos being Half-Deviant in the film.
In comics canon Thanos' parents are both Eternals.
Deviants are *not* weird offsprings that are cursed. Eternals, Humans, and Deviants in the comics all share the same common ancestor. Thanos looking the way he does is caused by a mutation in his genetics, which is called the Deviant gene. This does not mean he is fully Deviant.
Titan is the name of his home planet, not his species.
Eros is introduced as being "Royal Prince of Titan" and "Brother of Thanos." The first thing he tells the Eternals at the end of the movie is "A pleasure to make your acquaintance, my fellow Eternals."
Please do not assume he is half-deviant in the MCU until it's confirmed 100%. We know the MCU is not scared to make changes to origin stories. Look at Adam Warlock.
@@giratina5644 doesnt change that thanos has a deviant mutation which is why he is people, guess you forgot that :)
@@WiiSage A mutation caused by his Deviant gene does not make him a fully-fledged Deviant.
Why does this movie starting to feel like a bootleg Yoko Taro Game?
It WISHES it was as insane and sometimes-dumb and emotionally gripping/wrecking as a Yoko Taro game.
Yoko Taro is at least self aware of how batshit insane his stories are. MCU is too far up it's own ass to acknowledge that nothing in it's universe makes sense anymore.
the fuck is that
This movie’s plot is like a Chris Chan storyline of contradictions and conveniences, breaking the rules moments after they’ve been made and making new ones to patch up the cracks.

I don't understand why every person who talks about this movie goes out of their way to defend it like they personally made this movie. It was just really bad.
It felt like The Eternals was some sort of CW show. CW villain that everybody forget about and showed up last minute and it turns out to be Bill Skarsgård the no name deviant... To clarify for you. Then they use the generic betrayal plot and fight as a team to take down strong guy. Not to mention these deviants look familiar. Anyone see Edge of Tomorrow? Yeah.. The designs are the same. Only ones cooler.
This movie was just bad.
Skarsgard's character was never the villain, if Adam was paying attention he'd know this.
Because MCU fandoys
@@ShadowSonic2... He was the actor who played the deviant. CGI you see.
The "problem" of this movie is that it doesn't have a villain. Probably that's why people find it difficult. The movie is about free will and love. Not about good and wrong. Celestials are space scientists that create life in order to develop the universe and study it. Humans along with the other populations are their lab rats. The Eternals and Deviants are their lab tools. So based on who you represent, the answer to who's the villain will vary. The Deviants want free will. Humans want to survive. Eternals are torn between helping loved ones (like Sersi and Dane Whitman) or obeying their creators. But the whole conflict should be easy to follow if you understand that not always there is someone who's completely evil or wrong.
@@enegmatixerebro But Kro wasn't really a villain
Just chilling during colonialism, slavery, and the Holocaust lmao
ITS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THE SPECIES. REEEEE
And they show how their inaction creates conflict within the group. Druig wants to stop humans from fighting, but when your literal god (celestials) has told you that the humans will, in the long run, evolve into something better only if the Eternals don't get involved, is it weird that the Eternals then say to themselves: "This is for the greater good"? There are a lot of people doing bad things, or simply didn't stopped that bad thing from happening, just because they thought it was the better option
I'm surprised you didn't talk about how the movie actually FELT like 3 hours, but the pacing was still horrendous
Like...
"No, I'm not wrong to give humans technology."
"Hey, big black man won't want to help, he gave up on humanity."
"OH GOD HIROSHIMA IS MY FAULT FOR GIVING HUMANS TECHNOLOGY WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!"
*literally the next scene*
"So yeah, I'm getting that good D and I love humanity now."
Dick game so good it can cure PTSD from the war crimes you comitted
It seems like this movie could have been one of those self-published fantasy book series you see advertised on facebook, where there's somehow 8 books, each more convoluted than the last.
Couldn't we just watch Jupiter Ascending and get a way more honest and cohesive movie?
With Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne acting like a cokehead!
The Externals is the most DCEU movie in the history of MCU.
I'd argue that Zack Snyder would make a better Eternals movie than Chloe Zhao.
Are we finally getting close to the end of this superhero movie phase
Can we finally get some good manga and anime movies
Nope. We are getting more Batman and Spiderman movies. But hey, atleast they change the actors, right?
I fucking wish. MCU needs to die already
Let's see: Superhero media is the new western. Westerns dominated movies and television from the 1930s to the early 1960s. So for about 30 years.
Personally, I would pinpoint The Avengers to be the starting point for this constant, non-stop flood of superheroes and cinematic universes. So we are now 10 years into it. If we consider that trends move much faster now than they did in the mid-20th century, I'd give it around another decade before the superhero bubble pops.
@@DaniloSantosVieira Be careful what you wish for.

So, it is a Marvel thing that dinosaurs and primitive humans existed at the same time? I know comics don't make any sense, and there are probably loads of dinosaur stories in the comics.
Also, individuals don't evolve. The Eternals don't evolve, but specific regular human beings don't either. Evolution applies to populations.
The dinosaurs where in no point of the movie viewed or even mention. The fact that Adam mentions it is weird...
Dinosaurs are in the Marvel comics. There's a whole island that is basically in prehistoric times still and it's full of dinosaurs. I think it's called "The Savageland" if I remember correctly.
It came about in the very early comics and is still occasionally used/mentioned to this day.
Nick Fury once had a secret base their among the dinosaurs.
Colossus (metal guy from X-men) even has a son that basically exiled himself to the island and lives among the dinosaurs.
@@HuuskoTheMan What do you mean? The deviants were sent down to kill the dinosaurs, but were too strong and kept killing humans once they were around, so the eternals were sent to kill the deviants so the humans could thrive.
@@almightycinder no! No where in the movie the dinosaurs where mentioned! We see a scene of deviants killing intelligent life on an alien planet

Her whole problem with never being a grown woman kind of reminded me of Kirsten Dunst in Interview of the Vampire who disliked being stuck as a little kid vampire for all eternity for similar reasons if I'm remembering that movie correctly. Though I think Dunst also murdered prostitutes or something in that movie also.

But... they didn't nuke themselves completely in the movie? Is this a super weird and boring joke, or are you one of those that didn't see the movie and just assumed this is what happens in the movie?
Holy shit guys it was a joke on the volatility of humans. We'd have a better chance of wiping each other out then some alien bioweapon. Thus making the Gods plans pointless.
The joke works because Ultron, who was made by a human indirectly taught by Eternals tech, almost wiped out ALL life on Earth. Imagine how that dumbass Celestial would look if Ultron had succeeded.
@@meleemastermaa1449 they also wipe out civilisations that don't evolve. That's why the "big boy" is named Arishem THE JUDGE. The Guardians of the galaxy comics were obscure for most audiences but they were popular enough to have an ongoing series. The Eternals was just a POS attempt for Jack Kirby to rehash ideas and was canceled. They had to finish the story in a Thor comic because not even hardcore marvel/ Kirby fans cared about them. There were letters to Marvel begging them to not put them in continuity
