Simon, if you strapped all those detectors side by side and attached them onto a seed sower on the back of a tractor, you could detect a 10 acre field in 30 minutes. You'd have to rig up a speaker inside the tractor cabin to the headphone out sockets of the detectors.😂😂

Si, that was great that you did that for all those people. What a way to get people into the hobby of metal detecting. The smiles on everyone's faces where excellent and when you gave away detectors to those people, it was priceless. I thought that older man was going to cry, he was so happy!

I thought the one guy was going to get a bit emotional. Thanks for sharing this glorious day with the fans who could not make it. I love how many kids came and had fun. I wish more parents here in the US would get their children involved in wholesome outdoor fun and get them away from the phone, computer and gaming station screens now and then. What a fun, generous idea! I'm an amateur astronomer, and I've donated telescopes, both old ones I've fixed up and some made by me, to give away as attractions to public viewing events. It's a great feeling to see the excitement in people's eyes when they get something to take home to use again and again. Well done, Si!
And I think the next time you do an event like this, it should be along the Mississippi River near La Crosse, Wisconsin. To be serious, though, I would love to try detecting, but could never afford a new machine. I'd be grateful if you, or anyone here in the comments, could recommend an old, used machine to look for. You showed here that they work, but some must be better, and more rugged, than others. Or maybe someone knows of a good video or CZcamsr to watch for a history/guide to detecting. I'd be fascinated to watch that, even if I don't end up ever getting one. I'll go looking online myself for this, but I don't know enough to know if what I find on my own will be reliable.

It's inspiring to see one man's actions lead to so many happy people spending the day together.Some people would have scrapped those older detectors but you found a way to get others interested in the hobby plus gave some away so these people can get better at searching for lost history without spending a lot up front cheers to you for being generous!!!Thanks for bringing us on this adventure Karl from eastern Canada

What a wonderful and happy day all of you guys/gals/kids had! Was also fun to watch. 😁 Thank you Si for arranging this event! You have more than likely inspired a whole new generation of future "treasure hunters". ☺
I do wish I could have been there, as I've followed on CZcams both you and a few other mud/tip larkers for years but, never been able to find any tips or been able to metal detect myself. Not that I could afford a decent metal detector but, that's just how it is. Plus the area where I live out here in the country/woods of Sweden, is an archeological protected Iron age site and no one is allowed to detect or even search for old finds. Now, that doesn't mean I haven't found a few items, totally by accident... 😉
I actually looked into the possibility of me flying over to the UK to join your treasure adventure/metal detecting event but, since I would need to travel with my Service Dog, even if she does have all the required shots and health certificates, it's near impossible to easily bring her with me in to the UK. You have to jump through all kinds of hoops just to be able to bring a dog to attend a dog show. Let alone a dog that you'd be here there and everywhere with while in the UK. So, I'll keep following all of you guys on CZcams. ❤

This was such a great idea! Ill bet a few of your invitees may have found a new hobby they otherwise might not have tried. Even if they did not find anything of interest to them, they were out with other people who did, so the possibilities were evident. It adds some excitement to a nice healthy walk outdoors and you can’t have to much of that.

50 years ago , my dad made a detector . I am unsure of what he used for the coil, but I do remember him swiping my transistor radio to hear the noise. This was such fun watching all the excitement folks got doing this. You're a good guy.
