See the time I found a Silver Roman Coin and much more on the Thames foreshore czcams.com/video/1A8nJ5H_e3Y/video.html
I think the long brass with square cavity is a railway carriage key
How Wonderful Si !!
I was wondering.
If I were to travel to London for vacation could you or would you even be allowed to take me mudlarking?
Or is it possible for someone from the USA to obtain permission?
My favorite episodes are your up cycles but finding a almost 2,000 year old coin runs a damn close second!
Cheers Mudlover 👍🏻🐾🧡
Congratulations on the fantastic coins, Simon! In the US, finding a coin from the early 1900s is considered something very old and special, and here you are finding 2000 year old Roman coins and 800 year old Medieval coins! Of course, I enjoyed you torturing little Nelly with that crotal bell around his neck! Poor little pussycat....
Haha cheers Steve, Nelly was happily distracted with treats. Back to normal bell now
That looked like so much fun! Spending time with friends and finding fantastic treasures! Nelson looked very majestic wth his bell, he is a beautiful boy
Nelly says thankmiow 🐈⬛
You have a great bunch of guys to go out with. Makes for an enjoyable video. Lucky man❤
The fishhook looking item that your mate found is called a fibula. It was used to hold cloaks or other parts of clothing securely as buttons were later development.
Cheers Chris👍🏻🐾🧡
In 2005 we were out visiting my future wife's mother after surgery and her across the street neighbor came over with a week old kitten that had been left over night in their back yard. I took him. We named him Oliver, for Dickens' famous orphan. After he was all grown up, my future wife was eating green olives - something I don't like and would've never had in the house - she had some olive brine on her plate and Oliver came in and licked it up. He didn't like pickle juice, only olive. We joked he had been well named. Like some bottle babies, not getting all the good stuff from his mother's milk, we lost him at 11.
Sorry to hear of your loss, mate. I've always despised cats, but about 5 months ago, I was dumping some rubbish at my local dump, as I was about to drive off in my side mirror I see 6 little kittens chasing after me, my better nature got the better of me so I stopped, the poor little buggers were starving. Some bastard had just dumped them out there, I ended up finding them all homes bar one within a day, but ended up keeping one as no one would take her, she is now part of our family and I wouldn't have it any other way, her name is Shanty which I believe is an African word for dump. Sorry again for your loss.
@@zerocool7772 I lost him January 4th, 2017, 5 days after we lost then next to the last of the '4 of '04' Pong. That year we also lost Tony, my 'MyLot' cat, who I drove to San Antonio to get, hence his name Antonio, but called Tony. I lost 3 others, including the last of the '4 of '04' gang, Gizmo. I had a lot of cats from around that time since people seemed to think I would take in anybody... and they were pretty correct. In 2018 I lost 3 more, and 3 more in 2019, 2020 and 2021. At that point I was down to 7 cats. I lost the next oldest cat last year, but he was the only one I lost. I was down to 6 cats for 7 months, but brought in a stray in May. However, the oldest cat is also my last feral inside cat and I'm not sure how much longer she will be with us.
It's interesting that you always find thimbles out in these farm fields - I was reading Thomas Hardy's 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles' recently, and he wrote about hay making time on English farms, where the entire village would come together to bring in the harvest, and make hay from the stubble. He wrote how all the women and girls - even when they were taking a short lunch break in the fields - were always knitting or sewing, mending holes in their family's socks, etc - the exhausted men would just collapse in the hay for half an hour, and gulp down their lunch of bread, cheese and cider, but the women's hands were always busy and never idle! I can just imagine how their thimbles were always falling out of their pockets, as they put their mending away, got back on their aching feet and got on with the harvesting - it was endless hard work for these Victorian poor - especially the women!
Well said 👍🏻🐾🧡
Often a hunk of bread and an onion, cheese was expensive.
@@brenda1378. According to what I was told many years ago by an old man who had been a farm hand at or even before the turn of the 19/20th century ….the normal thing was to take a bottle filled with cold tea , cider was a treat.
We were talking about this as well. Your point makes good sense of how the thimbles and other odd bits are found in the fields.
One of my favorite books of all time! ( :
I find it interesting, sometimes a find from the 17th century is just ordinary matter of fact with these gentlemen. If I found something of a similar age here in the states in my area, I would be on the evening news and rewriting history books... 🤣🤣
Even 2000 year old Roman finds are common its so strange. We're very lucky.
It’s true we are lucky with the history we have here👍🏻🐾🧡
Same. I’ve said exactly the same thing on other Si’s videos. "oh a 500-year old coin, ok, whatever” here in the states would be us running down the street screaming about it
What a catastrophe for the original owner to lose a goodly part of a day's wages. Well done you.
Cheers Jake👍🏻🐾🧡
And doesn’t Cuffs always find something unique!
The Harry=Nero is pretty funny.
Thanks for all the info here. Great group of guys!
Looks like the weather is still burning hot over on your island. Nice to see Cuffs back in a video. He's my favorite after you, Si 😊
The button is of the 96th regiment of foot 1780-1877, Prior to 1800, three unconnected Foot Regiments bore the identification number of 96th Foot. The first regiment was raised in c1760 and disbanded in 1763. A second regiment, the 96th (British Musketeers) Regiment, was raised in 1780 under Colonel Richard Whyte and disbanded in 1783. A third regiment, the 96th (The Queen's Royal Irish) Regiment was formed in 1793 and dispersed in 1798.
In 1802, a new 96th Foot was formed from the 2nd Battalion 52nd Foot. In 1816 this regiment was renumbered the 95th Foot (thus replacing the existing 95th Foot which became styled the Rifle Brigade).
In 1816 when the existing 96th Regiment of Foot was renumbered 95th Foot, the 97th Regiment of Foot was renumbered 96th Foot before being disbanded in 1818.
In 1824, another 96th Regiment of Foot was formed and continued until 1881 when this regiment was linked to the 63rd (West Suffolk) Regiment of Foot to form The Manchester Regiment.
I read all about this once I got home. So much history from one button. Amazing 😊
wow! great info 👍
Fun fact: olives contain nepetalactone, the same compound found in catnip! My cats loved to rub on olive wood and even olive soap.
Who knew?!
@@Sifinds the first time my cat assaulted the baby Jesus in my manger scene (the figures are all carved Olive wood) I had to look it up 😂
Another fine Si Finds video today. An interesting field to detect for sure. Thanks Si, and see you on the next!
Cheers Martin 👍🏻🐾🧡
Amazing finds!! I had a cat that loved olives, too! She reacted to them like catnip. Give her a big olive and she’d what she does! Great day for you and great finds!!💕😺😺😺💫
No way. I never knew cats liked olives! 🫒 🐈
The brass thing with a square hole is a barrel tap lever, I guess. They were removable to avoid wine or beer being stolen by employees.
exactly what i thought it was, i found a barrel tap key a few months back...bet the guy that lost that got a bollocking
Spot on!
I had a thought it might be a key for a slurry tanker when it were muck-spreadin time 🤢🤢😂😂
@@Sifinds I tried ! 😀😜😂
Very much fun for all this hot beautiful day! Happy for you Simon you did wonderful finding all the silver! Have a fantastic week ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
That was awesome! 800 years! Wow!! busy morning, I came in when you found that beautiful jug shard, quite late, so am going back to the beginning to see what I missed! Thanks for sharing your adventure Si! 👍🤟🪡🎨
Cheers Clell👍🏻🐾🧡
Holy Dooley Si, this field is proving to be a coin mine. It's amazing the amount of time people across the millennia have been passing through this one area.
I'd Love to do something like this.
Cheers Steph👍🏻🐾🧡
Finding a coin that’s 1800 years old is FREAKING AMAZING! 🎉
Let alone a 800 year old coin.
Cheers Mudlover 👍🏻🐾🧡
Wonderful group of friends - great finds Simon
Hello Si. Looks like you are having a great day. Enjoyed the video today with all the finds.
Cheers Rose 👍🏻🐾🧡
That looked like a really fun outing, thanks for taking us along! Congratulations on your finds!
Cheers Maisie👍🏻🐾🧡
Terrific! All the different eras/periods of time found in the same Norfolk fields. Thank you and your friends for taking us along. (You must work on your humility Si ::)).
Glad you enjoyed it
Cracking Henry hammy that Si. Well done pal!
Great finds, Si. Congrats on the denarius and hammereds!
Cheers Mudlover 👍🏻🐾🧡
I think it’s just amazing how you find such early/ancient stuff whether mudlarking or field digging - AWESOME !!!
Cheers Kelly! We are lucky we can do this in this country 👍🏻🐾🧡
Super finds from the East! I have a dog that likes to roll on fallen apples, gets messy in the autumn 😂
Lovely find that crotal bell but hope to see Nellie model a Golden Torque one day
The Crown Jewels!
I hope so too!
Absolutely Brilliant SI 💯💯💯👍👍
Love watching your videos so natural nothing staged and you are so nice ❤
I had a kitty who would rub, play with, and tear anything apart that smelled of coffee. He didn’t care for catnip, so we had “coffee mice”!
Adorable👍🏻🐾🧡
I live in France and, unfortunately by the 16th century smaller hammered coins were all copper. So obviously don't last in the ground that well, being thin and all. Similar to rose farthings etc but there are dozens in each field. I have found the best way to clean them is to keep water off them all together (no squirting even.) Avoid rubbing with the 'thumb of doom' and take home and dry them out completely. Then I put a good coating of renaissance wax over them and 'push' the earth off them. keep adding wax as needed. Until the surface is revealed. Then buff. That way any patina stays complete and you don't end up degrading any detail.
Yes I see Chill Bill find lots of those
That”fishing hook” looks like a bracelet, it’s been bent, the hook would have hooked to the loop on the other side. You can actually see where it was twisted as it was bent. Just an idea.
Oh and love your 45 display wheel of your cleaned up treasures !!! 👍🏻💙👊
Absolutely lovely to see you Si xx & your beautiful cats x
greatly enjoyed seeing Nellie wear the Crotal bell for the 1st time in a couple hundred years.
Right! 🐈⬛
Love the pop up tents!!
Hi Merrill, another great vid! I'm a cult member, swear by the old Excalibur 11. Used one for more than 10 years. Absolute killer on the beach and underwater. Paid for itself many times over. Minelab do need to release an updated version (I think it's in the works) however that's the only way I'll replace the dinosaur. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
My old dog spike loved to have a cup of tea!
Aww ☕️
Cool old coins fellas
What a life! Not jealous at all. :)
Can always depend on Sean to go shirtless!
Unfortunately
😂
He looked roasted!

Soooooo good good!!!!!!! SILVER 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 Cheers from Mississippi 🇬🇧🇺🇸
Cheers Greg👍🏻🐾🧡
oooh A premier! havent had these for a while! exciting!
Look at that beautiful FLAT horizon 😆
What a fun outing. So glad you and the other fellows founds some awesome treasures. That Henry III penny was amazing. Who knew something 800+ years old could have so much detail and look so beautiful. Awaiting the next adventure. Fantastic video Si! Oh, I almost forgot. My sister has a cat that loved Ramen noodles. He didn't care what flavor. He would beg almost like a dog if anyone was eating ramen. He wouldn't eat any other kind of noodles only ramen. He was a grey tabby and blue point siamese mix. His eyes never crossed and he had the attitude of the tabby, but the yowl of the siamese. We lost him in '81. Unfortunately he developed a taste for the Mt. St. Helen's ash after the eruption in 1980 and it caused kidney and urinary tract problem. Silly cat 😢.
Cheers Beth. Gotta love them cats 🐈⬛ 🐈
My cat is crazy for olives but wacky for green tea. She'll scoop out the hot tea bag with her paw and rolls all over it.
Mad kitty
Wayyyyy enjoy🎉
Luv watching you find relics of the past. Luv that you luv animals❤
Cheers Mudlover 👍🏻🐾🧡
Silver day ✨️...... wonderful findings. Lovely video.

Cheers Sam👍🏻🐾🧡
Had a cat who loved green olives in brine, was like catnip to him, would carry the olive in his mouth, play with like a ball, roll on it, eventually eat it , come for 1 sometimes 2
He also loved tomato soup, and carrots 🥕 if I was eating a raw carrot, it was a battle for the carrot😸
I’m gonna try that!
Thank you for sharing. Love your cats.
Talk about Luck in the Stub - Brilliant!
Haha love it
Congratulations Si on 120,000 subscribers!
Thank you very much!
I love it Si. The best find was Bruce Springsteen in the field. 😁😁😁😁 Great video, very cool finds. Those coins were around when the Knight Templers were. Unbelievable. Best wishes to all the detectors. Joyce , Connecticut, United States 🇺🇸❤️🙏
Cheers Joyce! 👍🏻🐾🧡
WOO, let's get some yield in the field!
That George the 5th shilling is the most beautiful coin I've ever seen! Well done, Simon!
It’s a nice one, but fairly common 👍🏻
When detecting -
“There’s history to be found,
Lurking in the ground.”
When Larking -
“Let’s get some luck in the muck.”
👍🏻
Oh, the teasing! You are skilled in many ways.
I feel like every square meter of your island has been walked over by people who drop things. Which is not a bad thing.
That’s probably true
Healthy and friendly competitiveness…looks like you all had a great time…and YOU had “luck in the stalks “….I wonder if this field or area was once a hub of traffic or a town even.
I wonder that too. Cheers!
😂😂You're hilarious!! You get a silver coin 3rd try and that poor chap hung his head for an hour. So he couldn't find anything because of his metal detector not working properly? That's too bad. You wonder how many things he could've found if it had been working. I love your three second tent.⛺️ I remember my mom and dad having a two room tent, and how long it took us to put it up. It was hilarious. Dad, being Scottish he did not have the temper for putting up a tent so he sent them on his way to sit in the sun while we did it. Great memories.
You did great!! 💰 Thx for another great video!!😁
Wow you really did score on the treasures! Congratulations! Loved the hammered and silvers! Thanks for sharing 😊
Cheers Karen👍🏻🐾🧡
That item with the square hole on it is a Handle “key”. The square part fits over a bolt (usually on a plumbing fixture) and you turn it on/off to allow liquid to flow or turn off thru piping
Beautiful Misha
Hi Si re your Barratts medallion I have 1 dated 1897, the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria and another commemorating her coronation in 1901. I also have a BoVRil medallion dated 1897 celebrating the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria. I really love old advertising . Keep up the good work.
Love your channel and all your friends too! You and Nicola make my Sundays so enjoyable! You guys and the kids on the Isle of Skye. Keep up the good work. If I ever get to London I hope to meet you all on the foreshore!
Cheers Susan👍🏻🐾🧡
Wow a Roman denarius and Henry I???? Awesome!! What great finds!! You wonder who dropped them and why. Fun finds in Norfolk.
The military button: isn't that the 96th Rifles ? The fictional Richard Sharpe's company ?
That would of been nice. It was a real regiment but didn't end up at Waterloo 😢
Glad you found such old coins! Thrilling! “keep on rocking in the free world” is Neil Young, not Springsteen, but Sean in his bandana did a pretty good imitation of The Boss! loving the slo mo Nellie feeding too, nice bell for him to show off. The Elizabeth I coin is my favourite!
Cheers Susan👍🏻🐾🧡
2 of my cats prefer to drink out of the bathroom sink. And all 4 of them argue over who gets to sit on top of the bifold closet doors.
Lol😂 Daisy will drink ANY water going
It’s Hammer time for ya’ Si....score mate! Bravo find 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Haha. True
I absolutely love your videos no matter where it is!! Congrats on your amazing finds!!

Looks like some kind of spigot handle.
Some super finds there 🥰🤩👍🌞☀☀
Cheers Mudlover 👍🏻🐾🧡
If you want strange. My cat Myka chirps like a bird. She does it when you are petting her
Aw that’s cute
My two dogs, beagle and Spanish hound have eaten all my carrots. Planted them, looked after them and just as they were ready to pick, they suddenly dissappeared in a couple of days, we tried everything to stop them but, we haven, t tried a single carrot this year...
Growing carrots is always a disappointment for me, better off buying a kilo for 50p
Thankss.
The different era of silvers, that you found, are awesome Simon!! Thank you for giving some history to many of these finds. I've only found one thimble as of yet, and the Crotal bell that was found argh is at the very top of my bucket list. 😃👍
Thimbles are cool! Keep on digging!👍🏻🐾🧡
Thanks for sharing your interesting weekend .Great Roman finds !

Someone trod in something VERY lucky on the way to Norfolk! Plus you get to meet Helen Geake, the FLO for the area. Can't be bad!
Helen is one of my fave archeologists! Ever since time team! And I'm from across the pond, so she must be very well known over there.
@@SassSafras I love that America has Time Team! It's always been one of my favourite shows. Have you seen the reboots on youtube? Helen is in them, too. Her passion for the Saxon period is infectious, she inspired me to study more about history.
The Geakemeister
@@Sifinds I emailed her a while back asking a question but didn't really expect a reply because she's so busy. She sent me a lovely long explanation by way of an email, the very next day. How's that for dedication!
So love your content. Makes me want to grab a scraper and start digging ❤
I had a siamese who would ignore Catnip but would go nutty over celery. She would run to the fridge when she knew some was there and raided the grocery bag when we had celery in it. It actually made her "drunk," just like catnip.😺
Aw bless 👍🏻🐾🧡
Exciting 😃
Lovely to see so many happy boys in one video. Congrats on your precious finds Si! The Henry III coin is gorgeous! You used the Equinox this time didn't you? Have a great week to come.

What a fab bunch of finds and a great couple of days you all had. A very busy field. It always makes me wonder what action a now fairly quiet, agricultural field has had, over the millennia. Fine ferreting boys!
Me too! Cheers Anita👍🏻🐾🧡
This looked like fun. I would’ve loved to have been there. Great finds amongst great fun. 👍
Cheers Coni👍🏻🐾🧡
I have a cat that goes crazy for olive oil, always trying to lick the bottle
The Brass handle with the square hole. Is maybe off a steam traction engine from ploughing days, gone by, Si
Good guess! Find out next time
@Sifinds Thanks for the reply, Si. I enjoy watching yourself & Ms White on the Thames. England has so much more history than NZ. I enjoyed my 15 yrs in the UK.
Gorgeous finds!
