Since May I am driving the model called Wind in your market. The base EV6 AWD 77,4 kWh with all packs except the unnecessary glas roof and Meridian sound system. We have black leather seats and a nice white roof, which makes the car roomier inside than the GT-Line. Also some accents are even nicer in that version. Color is Snow White Pearl with black accents around the wheels and the front looks less aggressive. Anything else expect the 19 Inch wheels is same however. We drove now 6500 km with less than 16,8 kWh per 100 km in a mountainous area and on highways limited to 120 km/h. This is as good as Tesla and better than Audi and the Mercedes EQE both costing a lot more with the same trim level. The 800 Volts-system brings fast charging like with the Porsche Taycan. In Germany the car was tested against other competition and was best of all classes for long range performance. So if you are looking for a great GT-car with suspension made up by Albert Biermann, who headed BMW M Sports and with unique adaptive dampers from ZF Sachs only used by Mercedes AMG and Maserati the Kia is the actually best joice near to Tesla. From the viewpoint of instrumentation we have an intelligent HUD, we have well lisible screens with no problems in sunlight and we have many redundant ways to intuitively handle all contols. Tesla was a no-go for my wife as she has problems with all touch screens, even on kitchen appliances. Last but not least we do not play games or want farting gags in a car. However after driving fast cars of many legacy - including Mustangs and Pontiacs , Mercedes, BMW and Alfa Romeo - for 54 years I wanted a pragmatic electric car with just enough power. Tested mine has 333 PS and 608 Nm torque, which here is enough to outperform most ICE in this class. We also have driven the car at racetrack Anneau du Rhin with impressive times. Unfortunately there was no Tesla to compare. And a last mention, we seldomly go just straight for rather stupid quarter mile races, but drive fast on rather bumpy and bad mountain roads where exact steering is necessary, something our EV6 can even better than the EQE or Audi too. So in many aspects I can also agree with your report. It’s also fact here in Switzerland however the younger iPhone-natives buy Tesla‘s and no more legacy besides the new generation from Hyundai Group, with Ioniq 5, EV6, Genesis GV60 on the fabulous E-GMP-Platform. They are all very different and less boring than a Tesla, we have seen now abundantly but outstanding from the rest of carmakers from the old world. This will only change when Chinese brands are coming!

      @NickLiang Před rokem +5

Yeah also the predicted range is only an estimate, both cars received the same energy so there isn’t a difference in home charging at all. The point they’re making is how efficient each car is which is a completely different topic….. the comparison just made no sense. We know already Tesla is more efficient due to their drivetrain tech. Tesla can literally achieve more range than the KiA with 8 or so KWH less battery capacity

My EV6 remembers modes and ipedal settings from driver to driver and from drive to drive. Not sure why you all did not have the same experience. I am also very surprised how controlled and composed the ride is compared to what other reviews/reviewers are saying. I would say the ride and handling are more refined than the Tesla and most SUVs/wagons. I agree with you both the visability is poor and I acutally went with a GT line to get more cameras and safety aides although the parking assist is way too slow and adjusts itself too much to actually be useful. It also will not adjust and back itself into my garage.

Interesting thoughts on the handling. Buy in large most people prefer the Tesla for handling and steering feel as well as the feel of how it handles the acceleration. That’s the trade off you get with the stiffer suspension in the Tesla.
But the Model Y performs significantly better in the moose test than the EV6 suggesting that’s it’s stability and handling on the road is much better than the EV6 at the cost of a rougher ride.

    • @engineeringtheweirdguy2103
      @engineeringtheweirdguy2103 Před 10 měsíci

I can’t comment on build quality. It would require looking at a large sample of both vehicles. And the EV6 is so rare. That being said I’d never notice any build quality issues with Teslas, having owned several since 2019 to today.
As for warranty, the model Y has an 8 year or 200k km warranty on the battery, whilst the EV6 has a smaller 7 year and 150k km warranty on the battery.
As for depreciation, time will tell with the EV6. Too soon to call. However the model Y’s sister model, the model 3, had some of the lowest ever recorded depreciation. The model Y seems to be following this trend closely. Which is a standout since all other EV’s show rapid depreciation by comparison. Which doesn’t bode well for the EV6 however I think the EV6’s rarity, coupled with how well executed the car is, could stem that depreciation, but if the warranty is anything to go by, it’s condition might not last as long as the teslas.

These guys whine way too much. They whined about not being able to see the EV 6 's Speed. The EV 6 they were comparing to the model Y was the EV6GT line. It has HUD AR. Most everything you need to see comes up on the HUD, No need to take your eye off the road. It will show you navigation, vehicles around you, lane tracking vehicles, tracking lane changing, and more. As far as self-driving the EV 6 does damn well even at night. The day I bought my EV 6 GT line, it drove itself through busy rush hour traffic and a 120-miles after without me touching the brakes or gas pedal and I just had to touch the steering wheel to let it know I was paying attention. The GOM does pretty good job at show a real range

Tesla salesmen made this video. The EV6 is faster in the 1/4 according to Motor trend. "Compared to a 2021 Tesla Model Y Dual Motor Performance, the EV6 GT pulls ahead from the get-go, needing just 1.4 seconds to roll out to 30 mph where the Model Y needs 1.6. And the EV6 GT keeps pulling away, leading by 0.3 second at the 60-mph mark and crossing the quarter-mile mark 0.6 second sooner. (For the math-averse, that means the Model Y takes 3.5 seconds to get to 60 and turns in a 12.0-second quarter.) The Kia EV6 GT's high-speed stability is also more confidence-inspiring."

    I have switched from an EV6 Plus 77kwh (2022, 58k euro's) to a model Y (2023 standard model, 43k euro's).
So I have been driving an EV6 for almost a year now. It’s a lease car and I’m switching my job so I got the choice to keep leasing the EV6 or hand it over and choose a new car at my new job.
I chose to lease a new car and I have decided to take the model Y. The EV6 is a great car and I have enjoyed driving it but it has many annoying drawbacks.
    Here’s my list:
    - no walk-away locking doors
    - entertainment system first showing a welcome animation, loading time upon choosing a user. Just bring me to the start screen!
    - the heater not working sometimes for 15/20 minutes.
    - the air blower blows airconditioned air while the AC is turned off
    - horrible entertainment system, which is in my opinion one of the most importants things upon considering an electric vehicle.
    - horrible maps
    - too many lights and buttons (even if it’s led)
    - regen level reset after every ride and after putting car in reverse.
    - lane assist turned off after every ride
    - arm rest too short, elbow is touching the front part of the arm rest
    - glossy piano interior (already scratches after 1 month)
    - steering wheel is hiding a part of my HUD (can’t see the top icons)
    - annoying beeps sound upon opening trunk
What I did like about my former EV6:
    - very comfortable ride (although less comfortable seats than Tesla Model Y)
    - steering is softer, Model Y's is slightly rougher.
    - one of the most comfortable back seats and the amount of leg space available.
    - ventilated seats (just amazing feature)

I didn't get the GT-line but the Wind model without the sunroof. As a six footer, without the sunroof, I have plenty of headroom. Also the Wind with the smaller wheels gets 14 miles more range per charge. The fit for me, I can see everything and I don't have any blocking issues from the steering wheel. With interest rates and slower sales, Kia dropped the price by 9000 in 2024. So I got a very good deal far cheaper than the GT line or the Model Y. It is a smaller car.

Whilst the model Y is more sluggish than the EV6, I don’t necessarily think the Tesla is so behind in general. Long term, yes, Tesla will be overtaken by the larger innovation and rapid pace in China and even South Korea; but at least for right now Tesla has a good following that could hold out for several years.

2:50 approx - Why does it matter that at 60 you can accelerate 0.5s quicker? (I have rest driven both cars.) It’s 0-60 acceleration that is important, because it is safety related, such as overtaking on a country lane or crossing a junction. Likewise why criticise the EV6 for being slow accelerations in ECO mode? That’s the whole point! It’s to save energy and encourage economical driving. If you want to race at the lights, engage Sports mode! Anyway, Kia has more mechanical controls making it safer to drive, whilst the Tesla has smoother torque management thanks to Tesla’s advanced software. Kia has a sun roof which allows you to control temp in hot months and not just rely on AC. I’m on the fence, but about to buy one or the other.

Personally, I enjoy conventional vehicles, which is why we went with an EV6. I also like the exterior design on the EV6. It looks a lot more unique than the Model Y, which quite frankly looks like it was designed in 2008.
There are advantages and disadvantages on both cars. They're pretty equally matched on paper.

Would have been interesting to see your take on the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited vs. the Model Y. The Ioniq is taller and you would have had fewer issues with finding a seating position. Visibility in the Ioniq is far better than both, and the lighter color interior (also available on the EV6) makes it feel roomier inside than the color EV6 you had. Rear seat room is better than both in the Ioniq, and the trunk size is still smaller than the Model Y, but slightly bigger than the EV6’.

Ok, I have owned a Chevy Bolt, and now my lease ending on my Tesla Model 3. I got sucked in to all the hype and it was cool; however, the tradeoffs may not be great for some especially for us. A big plus for Tesla is charging. Yes, they have chargers everywhere and the charging is pretty quick. I have to just not recommend to anyone to buy a Tesla for the following reasons.
    1. The battery drains from 210 miles full charge on Monday, and the car sitting on my driveway, on Friday will have 35 miles. My Bolt when charged on Monday had 310 miles and on Friday it had 310 miles. (Hint Tesla, get rid of the glass, then you don't have to manage the battery temperature)
    2. Safety. The Tesla is not safe for those unexperienced drivers. For instance, a screen on the right side takes our eyes off the road. My wipers turn on randomly while in cruise control or cruise and hands free mode. This issue has us looking down at the screen to disable the wipers after turning off any automated driving. This is very dangerous. Tesla requires a HUD or just place a screen in the front of the steering wheel.
    3. The suspension is the worst. If you like a rough ride then Tesla is for you
    4. When in Autosteer mode, the car randomly slams on the brakes when it notices irregular shades and the sun is in front of the car. I almost got reended because of this.
    5. The interior quality is very cheap for what we are paying for these cars. It is absolutely not premium.
    6. What's up with all the software changes with the interface. We have to constantly relearn where things are on the screen, where again is very unsafe when driving.
We have test drove the EV6 and are very impressed. I am 6 foot and fit just fine in the GT. So, the EV6 will be our next lease. Buy Telsa Stock, not the car.
