Who’s ready for a South Korean EV head-to-head?!
We’ve brought together the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Kia EV6 to help show you which is the right car for you. These two share a whole load of parts, but we can assure you there are advantages and disadvantages to each!
Let’s start with a look at how they perform. The Hyundai comes with a choice of two battery packs, a 58kWh and a 73kWh. It’ll give you a range of between 240 - 300 miles, and can deliver power between 170hp - 305hp, depending on which version you choose. Its price starts from £37,000.
Then we have the Kia. It only comes with one choice of battery, a 77kWh, and provides a range between 300 - 328 miles. It also has a higher power output than the Hyundai, delivering between 226hp - 331hp. The starting price is a bit steeper, though, coming in at £41,000.
So… Which is the right one for you? There’s only one way to find out - stick with Mat for this all-new electric car group test!

I do dog walks and have to use country lanes, so I put my wing mirrors in to reduce width. The number of times I see large SUVs approaching with their wheels over the white lines in the middle of the road as they cannot judge their width and / or a 23 inch alloy wheel is very expensive to get a scratch out of :)
      DON'T DAMAGE THE ALLOYS !
Apparently they have a command driving position so they can see over hedges, though how that helps them get their fat car down a narrow road seems to be lost ... PCP paying tossers the lot of them. Duke Nukem wouldn't bother ripping their heads off and shitting down their necks. Probably.

Unfortunately, the paint options have been totally overlooked. The Hyundai mainly sells black, white or Silver... Or matt finishes. No red, blue, yellow or green. Also, the fastest Kia is much faster (0-60) than the top fastest Hyundai.

OR people that don't pull up to a 2 car width junction properly to turn right, so that you can't turn left past them. SELFISH. SELFISH, or just oblivious and stupid!

  • @kaspers.2498
    @kaspers.2498 Před 2 lety +201

There's one HUGE reason why I've ordered the Ioniq 5 over the EV6. I get the Ioniq 5 with the premium ventilated front seats AND the heads up display. If you want the heads up display in the EV6 you have to buy the GT version (which is more expensive than the fully-specced Ioniq 5), which doesn't have the following:
    - Premium ventilated front seats
    - Only has 6 airbags instead of 7
    - Memory function for the drivers seat
    - Electrically adjusted passenger seat in front
    - Electrically adjusted passenger seats in the back
In the EV6 I'll have to choose between HUD and those things. In the Ioniq 5 I'm getting it all 🤷‍♂️

Best exterior design is the KIA, for me. I agree that the Hyundai I agree that it is going to date quickly. I must say that I simply adore the exterior of the KIA.
OTOH, I much prefer the interior of the Ioniq. Firstly, I love the pale colours available for the Hyundai and the spacious feeling. Nor am I impressed with the claustrophobic atmosphere instilled by the small windows and dark colours in the KIA.
And the Ioniq 5 would get my money, no doubt because I am not that concerned with the view of the outside which I would see only infrequently, but you spend much more time looking at the interior. I know that KIA has extra cost interiors, but they are expensive and the only one I like (a bit) is over €1300 more.

Subjective of course, but for me the design of the Ioniq 5 is classic. From the overall neat and balanced appearance to the interesting details. It get's better every time I see it. Superbly well done. For me, it's the best looking car on the road. But why are they so wide? For many city streets, car parks and country lanes in the UK, these will be a pain to drive.

The difference in design and feature choice happens, because the E-GMP platform is thrown to a Hyundai and a Kia dev team, and even they are the same company, they dont talk to each other at all. Even the various dev teams within Hyundai alone don't talk to each other, so you get quirks like the different USB plugs and rear seat release... almost as if they were competing. Well they kinda are.

At a reported 3.5 seconds, which is bound to be even quicker if the other test has anything to go by. Why are we consumed by 0 - 60 !!??**
