Great piece of Leclerc's F2 season missed: As his father was dying Charles was in negotiation with (edit) Ferrari for his 2019 seat (edit) and decided to give his old man a parting gift by lying to him and saying that he'd already got the contract. Fortunately a deal was inked not long after but that's a hell of a thing.
(Also, his godfather Bianchi died in his major championship debut, then his dad died in his F2 campaign, then one of his closest friends Antoine Hubert died the same weekend he took his first F1 win. Dude has had an absolute emotional rollercoaster.)

Charles is also the youngest driver to win the F2 championship in any form it's had (F2, GP2, Formula 3000, or any other names that series has had), taking the title aged 19, a week and a half or so before his 20th birthday

Then watching him in Formula 2; that sprint race in Bahrain in particular... that was the moment I knew he was something special. And he's been through so much tragedy... Jules, his father, Anthoine... and yet he still stays strong. And he's got a very good attitude on and off the track. From being a kid who waited outside the Ferrari headquarters imagining all the wonders that goes on inside to actually being the star of Ferrari. He is what Ferrari needs. Granted that Ferrari absolutely screwed him this year, I don't think this is his end. He has been through absolute hell in his life mentally. Losing his father, godfather. Yet he continued. Rinus Veekay was rumoured to take the third seat, but he signed a contract with Ed Carpenter. Alex Palou has a deal with the F1 team (most likely as Test/Reserve driver), and one of the reasons he left Chip Gannassi was because he wanted to move back to Europe. Just wait until you see he'll hunt for the most poles record that's still held by Sir Lewis Hamilton.
And from what I've seen, both drivers are really similar, except for their tragic moments it seems.

As much as I want him to win the drivers championship with Ferrari I can see Charles Leclerc winning it with Mercedes. There is no doubt Mercedes are eyeing him as a replacement for Lewis Hamilton when he retires especially with the large number of fans he has which can bring huge commercial value for them.

I raved against Antonelli back in 2020 at the skusa winter series at homestead. In the pre final he had a mechanical problem so he was starting dead last. He drove like a bat outta hell in the final to first place and then took the field to gapplebees. He is one of the best drivers I've ever seen in my life and there is no doubt in my mind that he won't make it to f1

That sprintrace in F2, made me a Leclerc-fan. I watched that race live then and thought the tire chance was odd but to watch him catch more and more drivers, thinking he might get on the podium, not even dreaming about winning... That was one of the best drives I ever saw. Later, when it was repeated I made sure to record it and show it to several people as "a future world champion". I still believe he will be just that in the near future.
