      Bruh...according to the ancient record, Japanese and Korean actually have the Chinese genes in them because of Chinese emigrants who emigrated to neighboring countries like Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar...to escape the war in Mainland China whenever whole China fell into civil war and chaos.
      So modern Korean and modern Japanese basically are a mixed race of native Korean and native Japanese ethnics with the Ancient Chinese.

    I went to Uni in Russia, and I met a lot of Chinese people. They always complained that people usually confused them as either Japanese or Korean. It struck me as odd that they would complain about that. I'm Nigerian, but unless I tell my fellow countrymen when we meet in a foreign country, they would never be able to tell just from my appearance. Even Africans can't distinguish between ourselves, Europeans have a similar struggle too. Please, it's not due to malicious intent or racist tendencies that I ask "where are you from?".

    • @scholarssolutions6735
      @scholarssolutions6735 Před rokem +5

      @@wombat5252 The reasons for the three countries’ animosity are very long and varied but here are some key ones:
      Between Japan and SK: largely historical and some modern reasons. Japan brutally colonized the Korean Peninsula in the past and to this day whitewashes their crimes, such as sexual enslavement of Korean women. Japan and SK also fight over who owns Dokdo / Takeshima. They also have trade disputes that have culminated multiple times in boycotts of the other’s products.
      Between Japan and China: similar in regards to historical reasons - Japan denies war crimes like Unit 731, sex slavery, and the rape of Nanking and their politicians visit shrines dedicated to Japanese war criminals. They also dispute over a set of islands - Senkaku / Diaoyu / Tiaoyutai (Taiwan / the ROC also claims them but they’re so small and relatively weak compared to the PRC / Japan that neither side really pays them much attention). Japan is also allied with America, so they view China as authoritarian, evil, etc.
      Between China and SK: Historically, China defended North Korea and fought against South Korea. THAAD has marked a major turning point in modern day China-SK relations. A lot of Chinese boycotted Korean goods and the government banned Hallyu (Korean entertainment) for some time. Other issues include cultural disputes (ex. Hanbok / hanfu / kimchi / paocai), pollution (China is a huge country and thus unfortunately pollutes a lot, some of which has spread to SK), and similarly to Japan, Korea being an ally of the USA.

    I think biologically it's impossible to tell if someone is from Korea, Japan, ( northern) China or Mongolia. Chinese people are, for example, on average taller than Japanese. However, it's impossible to tell if the person is a slightly above average tall Japanese or an average tall Chinese. Finnland has many people with blue eyes (90%!!) but it's impossible to say if the person is a fin or just a blue-eyed German. Even telling south east asians and east asians apart can be hard because there are also darker-skinned east asians and pale south east asians as well!

    It's hard to tell the difference because in reality we (modern Asian) are all some form of "Han" and that last name exists in some form for all three nations. Ancient China was the first to establish "civilization" (properly recorded literature/art) would have also spread the most and influenced all neighboring tribes, which you can see the evidence of in the fact that Kanji and Hanja exist, both adopted forms of Traditional Chinese.
    Fun video, I could always rule one of the nations out immediately (Can't explain why), but it was hard to nail it down in the 50/50.

    Asian often overrate their ability to distinguish each other. Although I think it's easier to distinguish asian ethnicities from European ethnicities, i find most Asians are correct about 50 percent of the time based solely on looks (accent and fashion is usually dead give away).
    These distinguishing features are based on stereotypes, which stereotypes are not always true
    Ex Koreans have narrower eyes, Japanese with whiter skin, Chinese with wider nose....it's not always true

My dad thinks Korean is a reasonable guess for me, but absolutely not Japanese. I don't have a typical Japanese face, whatever he means by that.🦄🌞

    I’m Arab but I live in Canada and surprisingly I think I did really good and got most of them correct. I’m sure I didn’t get all of them correct but I’ll improve and then I’ll really be able to tell the difference from each culture. But as a person who’s heavily influenced by Asian culture especially Japanese culture and Korean culture and I’ve been in love with these cultures for more than a few years now there’s a lot that I’m aware of and I see like k-dramas, and j-pop, Chinese dramas, I also really love anime and manga so I really surround myself with mostly Asian culture and I’m pretty happy with my knowledge.

    A lot of what we use unconsciously to distinguish between racial groups is actually oral posture so when the picture mostly people making faces or smiling, it actually makes it a lot harder. Koreans tend to have a very closed, very tight, very forward resting oral posture because of how the language is spoken with lots of O or Oo sounds at the end of words. Japanese oral posture is more open (ehh sounds) but still fairly forward with the mouth, lots of :o faces as part of expression and listening (os and oos). Overall, you're way my likely to see a Japanese or Chinese person show their teeth when they talk casually (and aren't laughing). Chinese oral posture is overall the facially most relaxed of the three and relies on a very mid-back mouth placement. You might see more hints in their neck or jaw tension. Overall you're likely to perceive a Chinese person's mouth as "wider" because they don't hold the same tight shape in it that is common for the Korean and Japanese languages. I had a really hard time with this too so it was nice to see that they struggled haha! When you take away oral posture, there is really a lot less to go off of.

      It's getting harder to distinguish with hairstyle and makeups and etc, now that k-drama and kpop has made k-beauty and fashion styles popular and everyone styles themselves after Koreans. And many Chinese plastic surgeons trained from Korean surgeons and many Chinese still fly to Korea to fix their faces. I was talking to a friend a few years ago when I visited Korea, and he was saying that it's becoming more and more difficult to tell who are the visitors and who's local.
