That feeling when they roll over a winning hand... its brutal.
What’s funny to me is KGB had to be putting him on a flush draw and hoped it would get there on the river just like Mike was thinking so he could bet and get called.
You know what I like… the cards are dirty when he holds up the aces, they thought of every detail
Dirty as in KGB cheated?
Matt Damon is the master of making his scalp drop when his character is crestfallen. He’s used that move in a few films.
Fred Savage is the goat
at least I know what "crestfallen" means now...
That moment was so insane, I rewatched it over and over. As an actor, I'm jealous of that physicality.
I don’t care for Poker, gambling, Vegas, etc., but I love this film. Great acting and characters.
Everybody goes bust at some points of their life. So true
If you bet the house chances are you’re going to go broke.
@@jerryware1970 Yep. It's called overbetting. Over the long run of percentages and whatnot, overbetting will eventually lead to bust.
@@SergeantExtreme Ironic with someone named "captain obvious" who is clearly so fkn clueless.
If only Mike could have slow rolled him with Quad 9's
Please no, then you would have everyone at a cash game trying to slow roll because they saw it in a movie
I was thinking about that too. Like he walked away like aces full was the nuts.
Well... sure would have been a short movie.
@@brandongoldberg4639 If Mike had quads he would have shown it.
This movie should have been called string bet
lol yea right! so dumb
Or “Splash the Pot”
They could not have called it that at the time of release. 99.9% of the people watching he movie at the time didn’t know what a string bet was.
In my club I do whatever I pleeeaase
Actually it's not a string bet if you announce your play. If you say bet then you can string it in
This movie is people having killer hands and playing those killer hands.
Best Christmas song ever!
That's a hell of a cooler for your first big no limit game.
He looked like he was abandoned on another planet.
I feel the pain, Once I lost with quad of Queens to Quad of Kings :(
Bad beat jackpot?
Buena película
I feel bad for addictions. Mine was booze and luckily I was able to beat it relatively easily but it took a couple tries. Whatever yours is I know you can beat it but it’s not easy keep trying because people care about you. Once you get past it that feeling is worth all the tough times.
..."That's A HELLUVA Moose."
Would you consider this a slow roll?
Teddy played his hand beautifully.
what? the hand PLAYED ITSELF. theres no strategy in playing big hand over big hand cause it will end up the same way with or without an angle. are you new to poker?
@@infamouslyfamous2134 He didn't scare him out of the hand and took his whole bankroll (from a guy who supposedly read the exact hands of 4 guys). His facial reactions didn't give anything away and he played the river nicely, as if he made the flush, without overbetting.
@@baccaruda1970 thats dumb. scare him out of the hand? what cause possibly scare him out with 3 9s. duh
@@infamouslyfamous2134 Dude I don't care enough to argue with some rando on YT, but if the hand just played itself, then why did Mike say that he was outplayed later in the movie?
@@baccaruda1970 Haha ha like those writers of those movies know anything about poker that's ridiculous
I only discovered Rounders a week ago.
Where's this film been all my life? It's everything I wanted Mark Wahlberg's The Gambler to be.
He TRAHPT ME
It’s a good movie, but there are many flaws. If you can overlook those you will enjoy.
Mark wahlberg couldn't play a good degen. I don't even know why the character gambled. was it for money? was it for excitement? I just couldn't feel anything
@@testing6753 No kidding. It was supposed to be a modern remake of the 1974 Gambler, but Mark is a feeble attempt at being James Caan. The only good thing to come out of that movie was John Goodman popularizing "Fuck you money".
@@Conan_the_Basedman I been trying to watch that older version but couldn't find it online 😂😂 owning mahowny is a good one too
It’s funny that the director didn’t think to show the flip of the cards at the end of this scene. The possibility of pocket 9s changes the whole thing.
he already said he had a full house, so that wasn't a possibility...terrible check though if he thought he was on a flush draw
@@brucesmith1544
Aye, no way he'd check on pocket 9's
Pocket nines was impossible because Mikey had A-9 (not shown at the start of this video), with two 9s on the board there was only one left. Mikey was behind on every street.
@@brucesmith1544 Not a terrible check. Mikey had already landed a Full House on the turn thinking Teddy was drawing Spades to a flush. In that situation, a check is almost the only move you can make, because you do NOT want your opponent to fold, and you DO want your opponent to get his flush.
@@SergeantExtreme
If he folds it's fine with me...I'm getting value in most cases...he's calling a bet with a flush draw anyway
If this was a PokerStars cooler Mike would have aces full and Teddy would have quad nines
It do be that way sometimes.
2:03 even his cronie was like jeez Teddy was that really necessary 😅
I'm one of the (likely) millions of people who started playing poker because of this movie.
yes it cost me a fortune as well lol
This is the worst movie to get someone to play poker. There is cheating left and right in this movie.
Teddy was not on a flush draw 😢
To this day, I've never seen Ace's Full beaten.
Still, what a bust out.
You've never seen Aces full beaten? I must play too much poker, I've seen them beaten multiple times by quads or better.
@@OvertheHIL524 In real casino cash game, I flopped full house aces over eights, my opponent flopped quad 8s. Fortunately, I made money because casino had a mini-bad beat that scales up from jack full house and higher.
@@cheaserceaser most the casinos in my area of the Midwest only qualify if it's quads or better, you must use both your hole cards. Some casinos make it quad 8s or better. Crazy.
I’ve lost twice online with Aces full.. first to quad 9’s, which came on the turn, and then to flopped quad 2’s
You haven't played much poker. I've flopped quads and lost.
I checked them of course, flush card hits turn, he bets, I min raise like I'm trying to steal, he shoves, I call.
He has 1 out for a str8 flush on the river. It hits. Glad it was only a small buy in 9 person sit-n-go online.
If only he could have gone Bourne on him
Didn't even say 'well played', or 'nice hand'.
Glad he lost 🤣
Freddy played perfect GTO here
Do the string bet every single time, or did I miss one?
Quad 9s would've been hell of a slow roll on those aces lol
Who’s had the gut wrenching feeling when you flip over your set of cowboys only to see a set of aces. Only had that happened once to me but getting beat set over set it rough, having a boat beaten by another boat is even worse
You don’t need to be the best to make a living from poker just better than the ones you play against.
Plus proper bankroll management
Lol yea 🤣 you never know the other guys game when gambling big. It's a risk.
Poker is just luck.
Legendary status comes with nerves of steal. The game will come to those who try to find the essence of poker
@@sisusdk obviously you’ve never played poker. Oh sure luck is component of any competitive occurrence, but your statement is quite ignorant.
Would like to see how he bet the pocket aces before the flop.
Flat called a raise from the big blind. Little odd because most people would probably 3bet, but not the strangest way to play the hand
Pocket aces have hurt me as much as they have helped me...strange
@@Circuit7Active people always feel that way because they think pocket aces guarantees them a win. It doesn’t it just increases your odds, but you always remember when your aces get cracked, you don’t remember the times it went fine
@@Circuit7Active so I’m not alone. 😉.
@@boppityboopy114 yeah, the best way to play aces is hard and fast. People get burned by crappy preflop hands calling because they didn't raise enough. If you raise big and get a caller you'll have a better idea of their range post flop and can avoid someone getting a hidden straight or two pair.
15k being the amount here is either a fun coincidence or great foreshadowing the way that 15k is nothing to him here vs later in the movie when he needs at least that much
A standard cooler hu, and he had his entire roll on the table. Poker players will know that Mike was a silly boy indeed
Kinesh already knew KGB's tell.
Hellava Movie.
Aces full no good Teddy. I’ve got quad 9’s.
John should have gotten and oscar for this movie....he was perfection....you knew he was TEDDY KGB....no doubt about it..best acting I ever saw
It's the same fucking character he plays everytime. Weird ass guy with ridiculous accent.

He called the raise with two Aces!

This scene is painful
Yes because we gamblers all been there before.
@@thelastdragon5551 I’ve been on both sides of this. To this day I can remember the exact hands from each situation.
@@dirgeofdementia usually we remember the beats more clearly than the wins.
@@ANTHONY0808able Well… I remember one win in particular because of how improbable it was. I was the big blind and checked in on 2/3 suited and was flopped the straight flush A to 5. By the turn, the other three players had a flush.
Kinda nitty but just call is probably the right play here.. only 888 can call really and that’s even folding sometimes
you're right. Daniel Negranu once said that if you raise in this spot its almost always a mistake, cause worse hands are just gonna fold, but the hand that beats yours calls. This means you will be decreasing your pot equity because you gain nothing and risk everything with the raise.
Call with a full house heads up, are u mad. It was a stone cold cooler hand. Sometimes it happens.
@@eazyaz1237 not a pure heads up match
Wrong. Raising is the correct play. The only hand that beats him is aces full. He could get called by nines full of 8s, nines full of 3s, or eights full. Possibly even the nut flush depending on how well you know your player. The point is there are more hands that can call that lose than there are that can beat him
I watched daniel bust out of a tournament on the money bubble when a guy at his table only had 2 antes left. So, I wouldn't listen to his advice at least not for tournament play
Heads up it happens and nothing you can do there but lose everything
Fortune favors the brave
What if mike had quad nines?
Nothing says "busted" like Matt Damon driving a bread truck down Communipaw Avenue.😂😂😂
when i was a casual poker player I thought this was a great movie. now I play poker every single day and watch this clip and think wow this movie probably sucks
i agree. cause there are countless situations that would never happen. and if they did, mike would be a dead man for instance after he was smug with the russians
@@infamouslyfamous2134 Not necessarily. Teddy needs to keep a good public image if he wants customers to return to his club. Especially when he's shouting and causing a scene in which every eye in the joint will be turned to him. Teddy didn't say, "Pay him his money" out of respect, but because he knew that if he stiffed Mikey with everyone actively watching him, word would get around and nobody would play in his club ever again.
@@SergeantExtreme Is interesting concept your probably right
@@SergeantExtreme You might be right however I don't think there was anybody else playing in his club at that time wasn't it just the bad guys waiting to collect the money

Matt had a future with a law degree, the fetching Gretchen Mol and threw it all away for minutes of excitement with Ed Norton. In NYC, we call this guy a loser. 😁
Yet the message at the end of the movie is gambling wins.
This movie gets harder and harder to watch
what makes mike thinks teddy doesn't have pair of aces?
Wish somebody could edit this clip, with a plot twist of quads 9.
That would mean there were 5v9s in the deck.
This is why you never play with your whole bankroll, no matter how good you are, you can always get coolered or sucked out on.
Agreed. First rule of poker is to always play with money that you can afford to lose. I bust out in cash games and tournaments, but my bills get paid. Only thing that gets hurt is my ego.
This is why you never bet more than you can lose.
I've had this exact hand and been slapped upside my head by it quite a few times in my life. Thank God I always set money aside to play with and NOT play with.
Love how the movie makes you think he won till he tells you he doesn't have the cards for it.
So you lost with this hand as you say “quite a few times“. Sounds like you are unable to learn. That is the number one sign of a bad card player. I would love to sit down with you and rob you blind. Nothing easier than lifting from a know it all who can’t learn from his mistakes. Pull up a chair buddy
Why is there bleeping with swear words in that movie?? Seriously?
He gets up so fast and dude starts pushing chips but he could’ve had quad 9’s.
I think KGB already read him… that he was over excited n could bet underdogs…
“I’m Matt Damon”
that was an illegal string bet KGB, bet stands at 8000
He didn’t even have the nuts.
Let me tell you about gambling. DO NOT GAMBLE I have won and lost over one mill now I am old and poor working until I die skill is great but without luck you will not win
You got that right
Poker is a game of skill, yet it is always the most fortunate people that insist that luck doesn't exist. When people try to tell me that luck is BS and not a factor in poker I tell them that if I have been dealt pocket aces... nothing will push me into folding them before a flop comes.
@@gerritpeacock8949 Not always.
You're in a satellite tournament. Four players win entry to the main event; five remain. You are dealt AA in the SB. A short stack is on your left in the BB with half his stack in the blind. The prize idiot on the button raises all-in and is the only player who has you outchipped.
In that scenario, I fold AA without a second thought.
@Mac of All Trades preflop... I will match all in 100% of the time. I have lost with AA doing precisely that. But my chances are as good as any. More often than not if I have pocket paint and I can sustain a hit, I will match a preflop all-in.
Alternate idea: Do not gamble with money you can't AFFORD to LOSE.
KGB didnt actually had the nuts… Matt could’ve actually had pocket 9s.
So? What are the odds?
only a complete fool would bet his ENTIRE BANKROLL on anything less than the nuts
At the very least he's calling the 15k there. And it's certainly not unreasonable to raise an additional 30k with the second nuts.
Not only that, but his “dream” was to play at the WSOP, which had a $10,000 buy-in. So he already had enough money for that, he just had to wait for the summer: he was stupid playing with that much money.
Only a fool would even bring his entire bankroll with him. Anything more than 10% of your bankroll is too much to even bring.
i disagree. heads up is a different animal. any full house can go all in especially in a cash game.
@@userac-xpg He was playing in a game that had a $25,000 buy-in. Even still, he should have just brought the $25,000 minimum, and left $5,000 at home.
He left him one chip on the table, is that a mistake or customary?
as a poker player, youd have to think its so dumb when he sees that aces full while he has 9s full and thinks he did something wrong and that he would squander fishes money too. huh? thats just a bad beat. nothing the poker player does wrong.
Not even a bad beat. Just a cooler. Ran into a better hand.
@@jlateralus21 same thing. Both are just ss unavoidable
@@infamouslyfamous2134 yeah, pretty much. Bad beats I think of as someone hitting a 1 outer after you've basically put them on that hand, or it's already all-in. Cooler is like someone having the nuts and you having the 2nd or 3rd nuts. Like you see it's out there, but you just don't put them on the one hand that can beat you, but you're also never folding...
I've flopped a full house at the final table, heads up at a $550 tourney. Then it goes runner runner straight flush. That's a bad beat lol
Preflop range could have told something about teddy’s hand.. n also without nuts going allin with overbetting isn’t a great idea…

Poker was archaic 20yrs ago bucko.
Not true. He can call with a worse full house or maybe even the nut flush. 98 and 93 definitely calling, 88 also. 33 might even call
