the concept of getting us kids to believe in Santa seemed really, REALLY important to my mom. and since I had a younger sibling I just went along with it. this went on for so long that when I was 21 my mom suddenly decided that she needed to tell me the truth. I must have been a good actor
I think the whole tooth fairy thing was because when kids start losing their baby teeth some might freak out or start to miss their teeth (kids are weird), so the idea of being rewarded for losing their baby teeth by a mystical entity was introduced to help them feel better about the whole process.
That makes a lot of sense actually!

My mom told me and a friend once that the ceiling of a specific wardrobe in our house was an escape pod, and if you crawled in between it and the ceiling it would shoot you out a window.
I didn't realize something was up until I thought about it a bit when I was like, 13.
No idea why she did this because I picture me attempting to crawl between the top of a closet and the ceiling during a fire or something, and like, I can't imagine that would have gone very well. Pretty morbid but like wtf.

When I was little my mum used to joke that "you're so cute I could just eat you up" I of course was genuinely terrified, as I thought she'd done it before, the evidence for this was photos of her when she was pregnant, as I was told I was in her tummy. My mum only found out that I believed her quite some time later.
My mom would always tell me that if I swallowed gum they would need surgery to remove it or else I'd DIE. I don't even know what's so dangerous about actually doing it, so I don't know why she told me that. But man did it work, once I swallowed gum when I was 7 and I was FREAKING OUT because I thought I was going to drop dead from swallowing some Juicy Fruit.

Realizing my parents and other adults lie is what lead me down the road of cynicism I find myself still on today.
And the moment I became aware of it as a kid I also began to quickly realize that most people are absolutely shit at lying
