If it's directed towards the OP, they're just talking about how they think that drinking gravy is a Biritish thing according to them or in their opinion, they might be misinformed or might totally be wrong, in that case it could be taken as a mocking or as a joke or you can simply correct them instead of claiming that they are racist.

My chemistry class in secondary school was the only time that I remember where teachers had to be switched and the vice principal of the school was the substitute apparently. Also, in college, one of the teachers I had is like stuck in the 1980s or something and everyone had like a poker face every time he mentions computers of that era. Was an okay teacher, but I kinda got mad at him when he gave me a big fat 0 for not exceeding the word count on an essay (I was like 200 words away; I expected partial credit).

On the topic of weird science teachers, in the 6th grade my science teacher completely dropt a lesson for the day to teach us the origins of the illuminati... yes she was the best!!!
I had a high school chemistry teacher that had an enormous amount of novelty pants. This was right on the cusp of the internet being a thing, so I don’t know where he got them. But Wednesdays were fun because I got to see what would be on his pants. They looked comfy too.
I also had a creative teacher who asked us to write an essay about an inspiring teacher. I got the feeling she was fishing for compliments with this assignment. To this day, I like to imagine her feeling a little jealous about how much I loved her colleague’s pants over her “teaching” style.

Not necessarily a weird teacher, but when I was in college, I took a course in International Relations. Every day, my professor would start class with thirty minutes of open discussion - a kid would bring up an event relating to International Relations, and the professor would explain many of the ins and outs of that issue.
Also, when finals were drawing near, I remember him saying something like this (he had just finished explaining the best way to prepare for finals):
"If you show up to class and put in the effort, it is very difficult to fail this course. Now, those students who are not here, well, they're really the ones who needed to hear this, but they didn't come. My grade 9 geography teacher was a pretty chill guy. That is, assuming you didn’t get under his skin.
One time, someone had their feet lying on a chair while he was teaching, and he asked them to put their feet down. They did, and then put their feet back up. After the third time of being asked to put their feet down, my teacher comes over, pulls the chair out from under their feet, and friggin THROWS IT halfway across the room at the garbage can, then continues with the lesson.
My grade 9 science teacher was an interesting one as well. He often had a smug attitude and talked down to the class like they were a bunch of idiots (which, to be fair, they were), and sometimes he could be heard from way down the halls if he had his door open. He also looked like George Lopez, so he was basically Mr. Electric from Sharkboy and Lavagirl.

my 6th grade biology teacher was a sex offender.
Nixter the Phoenix my science teacher is really chill. Someone poured syrup into oil by accident and he was just like “that’s ok, I’ll clean it up later”. We also broke to test tubes in one day and he just didn’t really cared like it happened all the time.

Mary Inabnit My 7th grade English teacher loves Star Wars. He loved it so much one Do Now as they call it had you create your Jedi name. Your first name is the first 3 letters of your first name last 3 letters of be your last name. Your last name is the first 3 letters of your mom's maiden name and last 3 letters of your last name.
We also had a chance to get extra points of dressing up on May 4th (Star Wars day). The teacher dressed up as my favorite Star Wars character Obi Wan Kenobi. He also had a thing that was the rules in the acronym F.O.R.C.E and had Yoda's quote of "Do or do not. There is no try."
Even though this isn’t weird, my elderly 7th grade teacher (who will retire as of the end of school year 2019), had lots of laminated cut outs of newspapers from history, along with posters from previous students and also some of his own photos. Did I mention that he is a Sox fan. There was this class inside joke that to never bring up the Cubs in his class, especially the fans (Like me, of course.)
