"You're becoming a great mechanic by owning a time bomb"
Facts 😂
that's how I learned how to work on cars lmao bought a completely neglected Volvo S60R from a kid I worked with and did the best I could. I learned more keeping that car on the road for a year than I did working at dealerships for 3.
It is what the Top Gear trio said for years about owning an Alfa Romeo. Owning a beautiful car that you have to fix every 100miles makes one a real car man.

this logic unfortunately does not apply to ricers. period.

The fact that that guy was even surprised is hilarious. You just know he beat the living hell out of that poor little 5 speed for way too long.
They are glass after 400 from every I've seen and heard.

Im guessing that the cop at 12:45 ABSOLUTELY knew what had been modified. Thats why he's going "its not over the top", "Oh its stock? Ok i believe you!". He probably knew the camera was on and went "Nah man this is a nice ride. Let's get him out of this. As long as he doesnt incriminate himself i'll play along"
I was trying to be honest and eat the ticket in Indiana the cop walked around checked out my truck asked what I had done and said slow it Down and add a mufler and left he knew exactly every thing I had done
@@josephpeluchette191Indiana is a chill state, for the most part if you ain't doing stupid shit the cops don't give a fuck about car/truck mods. Just don't add those stupid colored lights in the headlights (the red/blue/green ring lights) you are asking to be hit with a police/emergency vehicle impersonation charge.
I have a hard time believing that he has an R8
he probably just pulled the guy over to check out the car lol
Also I think having a "professional" looking engine bay finish by keeping it clean and neat helps out a lot. If it's full of cable ties and leaking fluid stains and dodgy joints the cop has more responsibility to do something about it.

As an owner of a 94 Miata, PLEASE do a whole Miata fails video
Yes, Miata fails pls 😅
9:29 I think the third guy did a decent job. He saw that he was going to hit the second car, cranked the wheel, and impacted with his side into his buddy's car rather than driving the nose into the door. More surface area of the cars hitting each other means less potential for a hard in in the door. I say, good save, dude.
This guy seems super nice and was a great guest expert.
Subarus are time bombs and their drivers become great mechanics thank you simultaneously making me feel proud of owning my Subaru and upset at owning my Subaru
Ive had a rear wheel fall of my old ranger at 70kph (and yes it was torqued properly), have to admit, wasn't fun. Ruined my rim because the drum landed on the rim, and the rim still somehow spun and stayed with the truck. I was 2km from home, so I stole one lugnut from the other 3 wheels, and limped it home, then replaced the rim. Only damage that was done was the rim was destroyed, and the only "warning" i had was about a minute before, i went around a soft corner, and thought to myself, well that felt a bit strange. A minute later, bang, wheel was no longer attached. Bright side someone behind me saw the centre cover fly off into the ditch, stopped and picked it up, and brought it back to me. Thought that was nice of them. Haha
so somebody is going to ask so i might as well do it. did you retorque it after 100km / the next day after it was initially put on?
@@Ederick1936 it was done at 80km as per recommendation, and on there for about 8 months before it happened

Stephs level of knowledge and understanding is amazing
Steph Papadakis led part of a drag racing class I took part in probably 20 years ago. What a blast from the past, love it.
The 350z could be one of those videos where they spray water into the exhaust and then rev it up. Not sure why but it was a popular fad for a while .
Thats what I was thinking. It looks perfectly clear with no oil or actual antifreeze. Plus I am pretty sure that the head gasket would result in a bent rod. Water doesn't compress and the exhaust valve is only open for a short time.
EDIT: OK, his explanation makes sense, it just isn't something I've ever seen before.
I love Miata’s and would love to see the “fails”. Love you guys. Great channel. Keep it up, brothers!
It's always crucial to learn from these mistakes, especially when dealing with modified cars. Steph's insights are super valuable, especially regarding the mechanics behind the failures.
16:01 drew peacock mentioned ‼️‼️
Seeing the bucket of water coming out of the exhaust at 1:24, I think they filled the exhaust with water before revving. The engine also sounds too good for an engine that's pumping out engine coolant like that.
I did this in high school. Just ran a garden hose to the tail pipe until it overflows, makes the car sound like it's got 10x the displacement.
Yeah, the clip is Turkish and as a Turk myself, I can tell you, it's a bit of a trend there to do that
I think you're probably right; that would be misfiring like anything with that much water in the cylinders.
Love your channel. From South Africa
15:20 Revving engine, timing belt hops a tooth or two on the cam, interference engine does its thing from there...

The subtle Drew Peacock clip
If you're driving a right hand drive car in a country that has left hand drive then you can get a periscope mirror that goes inside at the bottom of the windscreen on the left hand side. So you can see forward around the car in front to see if anything is coming before committing to overtake.

Love all of the videos!
super cool you guys got steph on the show, love it
My first car was an old Citroen AX diesel that blew the head gasket four times until it cracked the block and I couldn't justify spending more money on that nugget. It was old but it took me all over Europe and I loved it... the head gasket and electrical system... I bloody hated them with a passion. :D Apparently both had design flaws. Otherwise, cool old 53hp nugget.
On my last car, a Ford Focus Estate, I had a tyre delaminate at 150 kph on the highway... that was terrifying and I have no idea how I held the car. Shear luck!
Nuggets are bad, yes?
@@drippingwaxNuggets are a name we usually use for crappy old small cars. I love them but they're not for everyone! :)

@@stevekenilworth Interesting!
IMHO, that 350z was right out of the carwash. Was nothing bad with gasket. 😅
yeah thats a lot of water for a blown gasket haha
I agree, when it's the head gasket what comes out of the exhaust is more white smoke than actual liquid.
Steph’s such a legend. Used to read about his crazy exploits in Import Tuner mag (rip) back in the day.
nah, that gtr wasnt running late timing. that was a gas or something just due to the color of the flame. it wasnt typical for a gasoline fire in the exhaust.
I think that Subaru driver money shifted. The look on his face and reaction that he knew it was toast. Cause he knows he went into the wrong gear.
Nah, that is the gears blowing up inside. He shifted into the right gear. The transmission was on its last ride. Money shifting is going into the lower gear and overring and potentially grenading the engine. Money
The lack of Sandro and Angela is disturbing......

Was nice hearing the *real* reasoning behind why people want to use the engines. It'd be like if Dell created a great component in a prebuilt cpu, but everything else was as horrendous and scraped together as you'd expect while being designed to fail within 5 years. Makes sense now.
1:45 that was a thing some time ago
people used to push a pressure washer way up the exhaust and fill it with foam and water
This is crazy to think that donut started with Jeramy in his drive way to now having a whole business what a ride this channel has brought me throughout the years

Dude, thanks for making my junked car useful.
My first daily car 5 years ago was a 92 Toyota paseo and I love that little guy. I’ve worked on the transmission and suspension. The car for a 100hp 4cyl 1.5l moved nice with what I did to it. I liked it just to cruise around and have fun in the highway with a car that I can manage easily since it doesn’t have much horse power.
Now I own a modern Corolla and a 2003 outlander XLE after my paseo transmission broke for the second time (I abused it) and I have it on the towers waiting for me to do something.
As soon as you mentioned “get yourself an inexpensive car you don’t have to drive”
Well that’s the one, is pretty cheap to work on it and easy, is a Toyota paseo, same as a Tercel. Is a 5efe engine. Pretty easy to work on and the transmission is easy too.
"It's 100% stock"
That got me rolling 😂
1:02 When you upgrade your drivetrain, try and make the weakest link one thats cheap and relatively easy to fix in a pinch. Its better to blow a cv axle than a transmission if something lets loose during wheel hop or a money shift.
Been racing a 2002 WRX since 2007 and have only broken one 5 speed so far. Though, I won't launch it while racing unless I really need that second and a half off my time. It's at 300whp currently.
The tuners choice here in Georgia is VW/Porsche. That or diesels or LS usually on boost/nitrous. You get the most from diesel or switching and tuning on nitro but you need alot of fuel pump to run nitro or methanol.
Steph is rhe real deal. His Supra build is a joy
13:44 fun fact, as long as it wasn’t a live video, it can’t be used to press charges on them unless there’s a major felony involved (such as assault or deleting)
14:25 Oklahoma flame throwers for a fuel injected vehicle:
Run a signal wire from a coil pack on the engine to a relay, have that relay feed a separate coil on the frame rail, serving the function of a set of breaker points. The coil on the rail is connected to a spark plug in the exhaust pipe. Helps if the cats have been gutted first.
I made the mistske of renting a manual transmission righthand drive car in England. Wven with many years experience driving manual trans in the US, I soon learned I wasn't very good at shifting with my left hand. I think that car's clutch was pretty much toast after a week driving it... with only about 3000 miles on the odometer! After that, on subsequent trips I stuck with automatics.
in uk people who travel a lot they have to get good at both. it don't bother me what side i sit on its all the same clutch is the same too so no idea how you messed that up. most manuals if not worn take you to center in neutral so i line 3rd 4th, all the way to left 1 and 2 and all way right 5 and 6th or reverse, using gear stick correct you should never have issues, 1 and 2 i use edge my hand mostly push left in gear, center gears the already centered can just use couple fingers, 5 and 6 inside your hand pull towards to and in to gear, left hand drive it other way using hand 1st and 2nd inside hand 5 and 6 left side hand. clutch sounds like you used to much gas and on the bite or riding clutch to long
Omg when I saw the black Civic trying to drift was the same era with mischief videos and Steph papadakis, nice 👍
please more episodes with Steph. i feel like the car community has forgotten how much of a racing badass he is
The clip with the purple drift cars is Haze Drift Team. That video went viral and if I remember correctly they said there was a spot on the track that was like ice right where they’d flick for the entry and it just sent everyone flying. These guys are pretty damn good drivers (amateurs who do well in grassroots comps).
Special guest Drew Peacock😂
7:35 The "some transmissions are more... forgiving than others" made me think of the old VW-transmissions (for the original Beetle, Bus, and Type 3 and 4), where many people said that to destroy a VW transmission from that time, you would need an anti-aircraft gun 😇 The engines could be very temperamental, but the transmissions were over-engineered and would take all the beatings 😇
The transmissions were swappable with Tatra and Porsche ones... That should tell the story.
3:16 that looks like a sheared impeller on the water pump to me. Get up to about 5k - 5500 on the tach, have a little slop in the shaft or a pulley a little out of balance, impeller meets housing, housing meets fender...
Yes, definitely do a video of Miata fails!!
This is not Donut, it's Real Mechanics Stuff! This is great! Thanks guys!
Yeeeeees!!!! Miatata fails would be awesome 💪🏻
"All jelly" was a brilliant statement!
in the UK iv seen a few left hand drive cars fit cameras to help them see the huge blind spot better, cameras now are tiny for the FOV you get from them.
The self destructing Miata guy's instant "That is NOT Good!" was absolutely perfect. I forgot to double check the front axle nut on a little 2 stroke scooter one time, figuring that one out at 40mph was a real eye opener.
13:20 those charge pipes are stock.
I used to work on a traveling stunt show. Each new town we arrived to we would have to source cars for the monster truck pit. The police stations would supply impounded boy racer cars and on the first day of the show they would bring the previous owners to watch their cars get crushed in the pit. Fun times
I love Papadakis, i just wish he'd make more videos on his channel.
16:15 I was about to say "o hey this is drew peacock 😂😂
