In this video, Matt and Corey discuss three essential apps that are free for the blind and visually impaired. These apps make our lives so much easier and help in so many facets. These apps should be downloaded and kept on our phone. All three of these serve a different purpose, but are essential in the event we need them.

Do you know of any apps for visually impaired for calendars and planning and things like that are you was a paper planner before I lost my vision and now I’m kind of lost

Blind to Billionaire Delicia and I are seriously investigating the idea of moving to Costa Rica. She is from Peru which is south of Costa Rica in south America with Costa Rica being in Central America. Also, Costa Rica is bordered by the Carrabean on the east side and the pacific on the west side. We are currently speaking with a realtor about a 5 bed 5 bath 5K square foot home in the Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, in the Nicoya Peninsula. This property also has a guest home and maids quarters... We would use the main house for Air BnB so wouldn't that be crazy if we actually did this in 2020 and you guys come there on vacay and that's how we actually meet? :) Anyway, see you one of these days.

I use Seeing AI when I’m shopping sometimes. Google Maps is my go-to for exploring an area that’s unfamiliar to me.

Tap tap C is a good one be my eyes as you know is a good one and seeing ai is very helpof too I descoverd that one at the short term program I went to early on this month.

Hi Matt. Seeing AI is a great app. I like the barcode scanner and the short text reader. Blind Square is awesome and well worth the money. I wish the KNFB reader was as cheap as $40 a few years ago. I had to pay $100 for an app that would read text and basically do almost the same thing that seeing AI does. Now I use a different app for scanning my documents that was only $13 instead of 100, but it works a lot better. Hope you and Cory had a merry Christmas.
Hey Tiffany! I always enjoy hearing your opinion on all these different apps as I feel like you have a very nice gauge of all of them. Thank you for the information about Blind Square, honestly, I have been getting a lot of really mixed reviews. Some people love it and some people hate it. It is really interesting. I agree, seeing AI is amazing and offers so much functionality. I also use that one quite a bit. I’m glad you were able to find a scanner that is much cheaper that still does the same thing. you’re welcome. Christmas was good. Things have been crazy Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and I start work tomorrow so I’m taking it easy today because all that socializing gets exhausting as an introvert. I’ve started doing live demonstrations on some of these apps in tech with Tif. So people can get an idea of what the app is and how it works.

I was an Iphone user for years but now i switched to android and envision is not really good but there was an app i would say its almost better than seeing ai it´s called google lockout! best regards from Ringo

Another app I wanted to add to the GPS category is Nearby Explorer. I typically have someone with me when out and about shopping or whatever, but I've used the app on a few occasions and having my provider set to Google maps, it seems to work pretty well.
Also I was wondering, are there any apps out there that a blind person could use for tracking storms, tornadoes, and the like? I was just curious to know if there were any radar weather tracking apps out there for the blind. I'm an Android guy, and I use the weather app from Google that works pretty well with weather updates and such.

There are a lot of free at South there? My question is what is we don’t know all the free app they’re out there and we wanna know. Can you be like for some kind of list that can be created and put online for the Apple store? That will be pretty helpful please? If that could be created.

Hi Matt and Cory, I would have picked the same three apps, but I want to tell you of an interesting way I use Seeing AI in the short text mode. I placed the phone a few feet away from my TV and it will read back subtitles. I just put in EarPods and I can listen without bothering anyone else.. I’m sure it would also work in a movie theater but I haven’t tried that yet,, You would just have to remember to put the screen curtain on! I hope this idea help someone else out talk to you guys later

You should do a video on what it was like when you first started losing your vision was your family supportive? My mom seems to think i should just ignore the fact im losing my peripheral, she thinks im causing it by trying to prepare for it, plus I almost fell down a flight of stairs Thursday because i did not see them to my left.
Hi, thank you for the video suggestion. That is really unfortunate that your mom is not recognizing that you are legitimately losing your vision. Has she ever gone with you to your doctors appointments when they examine you and assess your vision loss? That is really scary almost fell down a flight of stairs because you did not see it. I definitely do not think it is reasonable to think that someone would falsely claim to be losing vision. Hopefully your mom will understand when she learns more information. I like nearby Explorer by American printing house. And they have a free version and a paid version. You can create favorite locations in awhile actually Mark the exact door door where you need to enter. also you can virtually go to a location before you go on vacation so you can explore the restaurants and activities around that

hi, can these, or any other apps be used offline? my dad has itouch but refuses to get wifi, he has internet through broadband so he can get online, but im looking for something he can use at home and out and about that do not require internet

Google Maps is good for walking directions unless you're in NYC, trying to find places, and the GPS doesn't give the most accurate directions. just like when Lyft is trying to pick you up from somewhere in the city. They might show up across the street or down the block.

Hey my friend! That is awesome. TapTap see was previously going to be one of the apps, but I do not think it is very good anymore. It can be replaced with an app like Seeing AI which is way better. Sounds good my friend, you are awesome! Matt
Congratulations Shelby! I hope you both had a Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! It was certainly busy around here. I hosted Christmas Eve dinner after church. We had a 'soup bar'. I think that's going to be my Christmas Eve go to from now on. My daughter in laws family joined us for Taco Soup, Chicken and Noodles, and Sausage and Potato Chowder. My son's Mother in law brought a veggie tray, and we had ice cream and little Christmas tree cookies for dessert. It was easy for just me to handle since my youngest was at work Christmas Eve morning. Wishing you a joyous new year filled with lots of love, great health, and joyful memory making experiences. @@BlindtoBillionaire I have a queen size sofa bed with the fancy dancy blow up mattress that came with it. Only thing is after you push one button to blow it up, sleep, and push the other button to release the air, the sofa farts when you plop down on it. It has no manners at all! I've tried, but my protestations haven't made any difference to the sofa, at all. The bed sleeps really well. Almost as good as my waterbed.
LOL, sounds good enough to me! Maybe you can sleep on the air mattress and I will take the water bed! LOL ;-)

Blind to Billionaire yes I had a wonderful Christmas! Spend it at my house for the first time we recently got a new home so that was fun and special. I received clothes perfume from Bath and Bodyworks Wooden tic tac toe braille playing cards headbands and hair scrunchies

Seeing ai, have been using it occasionally. Tried it to read the label on a spay can a couple of days ago but the app didn’t want to read it. Perhaps the colours were not compatible and the round shape of the cam was causing it to not work? I use another one on my phone too, it magnifies and also can use the phones light to brighten the object up to but I can’t think of its name right now. I believe you can also take a picture with the app. Thanks for the informative video.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed the video! That is one way that you can use it seeing AI, if you’re trying to read a product, I would go to the product channel on Seeing AI and scan the barcode. That typically works a lot easier from what I have found. In the lower right corner of seeing AI, if you touch down there and then use a flicking gesture up with your finger, it will go to different channels. Go until the one you hear product. At that point you can find the barcode through the beeping technique with the app and it will scan it and then read the product to you. I hope that’s helpful :-) Matt

You are welcome, try it out, I think he will really like it! It is a nice feature. Just listen for the beeping, as the beeping speed increases, that means it found the barcode and you need to just hold steady so they can scan it.
Uh oh.... my iPhone is too, old 5c. I checked out the question mark and I guess that’s why I can’t get that to work. one of these days I’ll have to break down and spend some money on a new phone but this one still works ok otherwise! The horror of spending money! LOL
LOL, oh yes, that would be why you cannot get those functions. Well that is good to know. Hopefully at some point you can upgrade and get a newer version of iPhone, I think you will absolutely love it!
Hi Matt! Stan here. I see this video is 2 months old, so I hope you can still respond I have Rod Cone Dystrophy, Which means I have very zero peripheral vision left, but 20/20 central corrected by glasses. I will b e 100 % blind in the future. The progression has sped up, so I'll looking a possibly being blind in a year or so. who knows. This damn illness effects everyone differently and at a different pace. I like the apps you suggested. I have always used Android simply because of preference. I have heard Apple is better for those that are 100% blind. Larger font would do no one who's blind obviously. Have you compared the two? Your current situation is what I'm in store for.

I’m glad you enjoy this video and found some of these apps to be helpful, these are just a few that I find to be very helpful and that I like to keep on my phone at all times. Is it on it is unfortunate that your vision will decline more than it already has, but it is nice to know that you are preparing and learning what you need to know before it happens. Blind to Billionaire there is an app my O&M instructor recommended to me that’s free and people seem to like a but more but it way just just be available in New Zealand where I’m from but it could be worth a look. It’s called Moovit. It combines GPS and public transport timetables. Thanks. Merrinka

I do not like blind square! It is not accurate. The reason why I say that is because it does not point you straight at the door when you’re going on a business trip or something! However, Google maps I agree with you Matt is really awesome I also use seeing AI for dictating what my bills are so I can put them in order in my wallet! However, I do think they need to work on the facial feature channel. As for Be My Eyes, I used it once, and my helper cannot see anything that well because of the glare or something, I’m guessing it’s because it was cloudy outside! I used it because a Lyft driver dropped me off in the middle of the road instead of in front of my house
